In 1509, the 18-year-old Henry Tudor ascends the throne and is crowned King Henry VIII.
In 2009, Scarborough Faire will have a re-coronation of King Henry VIII.
It will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 3rd, under the canopy of Pecan Grove (since Scarborough doesn't have a cathedral).
We promise as much Pomp and Pageantry as we can muster.
Sorry, but you don't look very 18 anymore.
HUZZAH :D !!!
At least he doesn't look 500! :)

That sounds like an awesome event!

I'm NOT sorry! It took me YEARS to look like this and I regret none of them (except 1984 and that bad haircut)!
It's not a re-enactment, Mr. smarty-kilt, :P it's a re-coronation.

Thats my pal! Thank YOU, Dana! ;D
Listen to Blackmore's Night 2001 Album "Fires at Midnight" song "The Crowning of the King" as well as most of their music. It just sets the mood for the Renaissance Faires!
Congrats on the re-coronation, VIII! I hope I can be there! *HUGS*
I saw you this past weekend when I was getting some ice with Queen Bonnie, and I was so excited! It was all I could do not to squeal "Hey, Kingy, I luuuuuurves youuuuuu!"
So I will really try to behave when you are re-coronated. I won't squeal or anything.
*stop waving frantically at the King, yer supposed to bow! hey, stop trying to hug the King, yer supposed to bow! geez. Yer pretty hopeless. No wonder yer named after a small weasely animal...*
WOW!!! I sooo wish I could see that, it sounds WONDERFUL!!! Ok, I'm such a big dork here, but do you have a coronation robe similar to the one used then? Are people going to take lots of pics for me? VIII, are you going to give the real speech given at the coronation??
I've always thought it would be pretty cool to stage this for QE1, I would love to have the similar gowns and do her speech and all.... so I can imagine that this is a pretty awesome moment!!
Huzzah! I WISH I could be there to celebrate with you VIII! What a glorious day it will be!
I remember my own online coronation. Alas! Lost to hackers when R/F crashed.- But I still have my wee Crown!
Long live the King!
That is too cool- and kind of special.
I won't be there that weekend, so someone needs to take lots of pics and share that special moment with us. Really, VII, grats on getting to be "the one" who gets to recreate this moment. Or get re-coronated...is that a word? Anyway, think of all the VIII's out there from the past who don't get to experience this. Kind of makes you want to rub it in their face and do that Na-Na dance...well, I mean maybe some people...
*watches SirRichardBears Video* Ohhhhh are you going to dress in armor for us *grins*
Man, I'm planning to come up the weekend before. I wonder if I could survive a early morning drive up from Houston on sunday morning to see.
I'm sure we will have a few photos *cough-STALKWELL-cough* of the event.
Now, if only we can have a few dedicated videos made...
how long will the re-coronation take?
We intend it to take about 15-20 minutes. More than 20 minutes and the audience will start to wander away unless it is really spectacular. Once we get though editing the script, we will give it a run-through and have a better idea of how long it will take.
On another note: Scarborough Faire owns one of 9 copies of the Crown Jewels. They used to be on display at the Tower of York. We will be utilising several of these for the Re-coronation.
I really do hope you can find part of that coronatoin speech, sorry I couldn't help.
You've got to be the luckiest King alive... copies of the crown jewels!!! TO DIE FOR!!!! Gosh I wish I had unlimited funds to get those sorts of things for myself...

That's a mighty bad cough, your maj... the plague, mayhaps? I have just the leech for that malady. I or one of my cronies will be in the area with a digital 'Flemish painter' to commemorate the occasion.
Stalk well...
Wouldn't miss it. We were planning on that weekend. 500 years, my how time flies!~
Drat! My nephew's confirmation is the same day... in Sugar Land!
Photos, my friends! Take lots & lots of photos!

I'm still trying to wrangle a way to make this event. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Alas, we're going to be at a wedding in San Antonio on Saturday. How long does it take to get to Waxahachie from there? Going to try to twist m'lord's arm into getting there on Sunday just for the re-coronation and then heading back to Houston. Really do not want to miss this!
I have friends that live in San Antonio and according to them it's about a 5 hour drive.
yay!
I got the day off on May 4 so we can come May 3 and see the Coronation.
I would love to be there too. I shall try to conjure up a ride for Sunday!!! ***Waves wand hopefully!***
Anyone in the Austin area going for the day? I'll help with gas!
Really cool CNN report...

Re-coronation? I don't even remember the election!
You missed it, Tuckaram? VIII won!
For those who may not know, will re-post.
May 3rd, Sunday. At/around 1:30pm in the area where the knighting ceremony and evening Court Dance is held will be the re-coronation of King Henry the VIII in honor of the 500th anniversary of his orginal coronation in 1509.
Some of the village will be there prior to this time in Pecan Grove, prepping the crowd for the ceremony.
They'll be using our replicas of the Crown Jewels, so if you think the crown looks familiar, you're right!
Hopefully there will be plenty of time to get down there after the parade and find a good place to watch...we usually get back to BDT around 1:25, so it will be close.
Just an FYI for those interested:
If the weather is not cooperative, the Coronation MAY get moved to Castle Pavillion. This is not finalized yet as far as I know, but it's a possibility if the pavillion is free.
So if you want to watch this event, you may want to check with someone that morning to see if it's been moved. :)
In the event of 'inclement' weather, the Coronation will be held in the CROWN Pavilion.
Shouldn't be a problem since the reCoronation is right after parade and we all know the Scarby rule for parade and the sun. No matter what if does before or after during parade the sun will be out and roasting, baking, steaming, etc us during parade.
I hear Archbishop Cranmer will be doing the honors.
Pretty hefty achievement for a 20 year old. ;)

Okay. CROWN Pavillion. Not Castle Pavillion.
Sorry.
Just trying to help people find it.
I'll shut up now.
That was wonderful to watch. A big thanks to the Scarby cast & staff for putting together such an event. My kids were a bit whiney but once they saw the procession & King Henrys cape (train?) they were spellbound.
It was great! I thought the event was well organized. There was at least one person, taking video. I left my video camera at home (duh!), hopefully the video will be posted somewhere. There should be no shortage of pictures ;) - it looked and sounded like a press conference.
Miguel yelling from the stage across - "God save King Henry!" was something else.
It was a blast!
For those who might find this interesting: We had a Stone of Scone!
To which, the Scots proudly stole immediatly after the Coronation...
My Thanks to Stalkwell's girl for helping me figure out the exact name of the rock.
I knew that English Kings (And Queen's) had been crowned on a stone, but, the name and such
eluded me as we prepared for the ceremony.
And thank you! To the crowd who cheerfully joined in on the 'God Save the King' bits! That was simply brilliant!
hey George, congrats on getting recrowned(what size hammer did they use?) I'll bite yer hand on the last weekend to comemorate the affair since I couldn't make it sunday ;D
Does anyone have any photos yet of Henry's re-coronation?
I sprained my knee Saturday and we were afraid to come out in the mud on Sunday.
Yes, pics please! Being a minor part of the festivities and not having a view of the stage I didn't see much except the procession to and from. I did hear "God save the king" a few times, but that was it as far as the actual ceremony.
A bunch is being edited and uploaded right now. Estimated time for compete upload 4 pm today, they will appear here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/compassrosek8/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/compassrosek8/)
We're working as fast as we can :-\ There were a few of us inside shooting, and there are some very good shots coming. It was very dark for us, and will take extra post-process care to recover. There should be stuff up in a day or two from both the good Lady Stalkwell and myself. We'll post the link shortly.
Stalk well...
I also wish I had been able to be there! A ride did not materialize. Anticipating the pictures!
I have a few that my son took at the end of the set here:

WOW, those are amazing, it feels like I'm there... wonderfully done!
OOH! Great photos! I wish I had been able to be there- but photos are the next best thing! Thanks!!
Yes, Compassrosek8 is the person, who took the pictures. She did a good job, capturing the atmosphere, I think.
Finally!!
With much wailing and gnashing of teeth (and many sleepless nights), our coronation shots are up on Rensites. We were limited in our movement during the ceremony, so don't judge too harshly for variety ;) Ignore the order, we are still working on that... output from two camera bodies apiece have not been interleaved yet.
There will be more to come... she has another 50 or so to gen, and I have probably another 10-20 to do.
Here's the path...

Oh very nice. I wish I would have been able to make it there in person.
Thank you, thank you so much Lady Stalkwell for the beautiful portraiture. It is a day I will never forget and your work will be greatly treasured. You and your man are da Bombdigaty!!! :-*
Wow! Those are amazing- but your pictures always are fantastic! I could not find a ride for that day so had to miss the coronation! So glad to see the photos! AWESOME!!!!

Oh if so I so wanna know about it.
A friend got to see one single photo from the Re-coronation of the Stalkwell's last night. Her response was, "Oh, that would make a great book cover!"
Now I have to find a self-publishing place to print a book or two or 1000 for me.
You could have your own photobook printed on Shutterfly. THey come out literally in book form and you can put all your own pics in there with words written below and such. I've made a few of them myself for vacations and for ren fair pics too! They aren't cheap, but not too bad and definitely worth it!!
