Would you please light a candle and say a prayer for my friend Deb and her family. Almost a year ago Deb and her Sister were involved in a car accident. Julie stopped at the stop sign the path was clear and when they were in the intersection a speeding car flew over the hill and hit them. Now the 20yr old driver of the car has decided to sue them and they have nothing, so the woman is going after Deb's grandmothers house. It's the only thing this woman has and it was built by her deceased husband. They are going after the grandmothers house due to the car Julie and Deb were in belonged to the grandmother. They are asking for prayers as they don't know what else to do.
Many thanks to all who do so.
Peace and Blessings
Lady Oren
I will certainly say a prayer for your friend. Just wondering though, it sounds like your friend did nothing wrong, so what are their grounds for suing them? This woman did the hitting, shouldn't it be her fault?
I hope they retained a lawyer.
I don't know where they live but there may be homesteading laws that will protect the grandmother's house.
Your friend definately needs a good lawyer. I don't see how they can try to lay claim to the grandmother's house. She had nothing to do with it-just because it was her car shouldn't have any bearing, but then, what do I know.
Was it a two or four way intersection? Was the other driver coming from the left or right? Supposing it was a 4 way, and the driver was coming from the left, then that person should be held liable, since at a 4-way the person on your right has the right of way. In this case your friend would have been on their right. (If this is how it happened.) If not, they should still be held liable since they did the hitting. Can it be proven whether or not they were speeding over the hill? Any witnesses?
I wish them luck.
LadyOren I will most definitely keep Deb and Julie in my thoughts and prayers. They have no reason to be sued as they were not the ones who caused the accident. I hope all goes well for both of them.
Peace and Blessings to you as well M'lady.
Another thought, was the woman seriously injured? Sounds to me like she's just trying to get some "whip-cash". What a lousy situation.
My thoughts are with them, but they definitely need a good lawyer.
Lady Oren, I don't know the specifics of the case nor the specifics of your friends financial situation, but there is a good chance they can receive legal aide if they can't afford it. I agree, a good lawyer is a must.
