Title: Impressed with Chris B and Wine & Alchemy
Post by: DonaCatalina on April 19, 2009, 04:59:19 PM
I have had 'Matty Groves' stuck in my head for 6 weeks now. Low and behold, today we go to see Wine & Alchemy and what do they perform? That very song.
The violin that Chris played was a marvelous counterpoint to the singer's voice.
I can honestly say that this was the best redition that I have heard since Fairport Convention in 1978 or 1979.

Blessings be!

Thanks!  I really appreciate all your support, and I know the band does too.  I'll make sure to pass your thoughts on to Mark and the rest of the group.  We had a pretty rocky start to the weekend on Saturday after I choked on Matty Groves with the Entertainment Director watching and with us having a few technical issues, but I think we recovered and had a pretty good weekend.  I look forward to seeing you all out there over the next several weeks.  I can tell you, at least for me, it takes some of the performance anxiety and edge off seeing familiar faces in the crowd.  See you all soon.

I heard "Matty Groves" when I saw Wine and Alchemy at the Mucky Duck before TRF last fall.  I love the Fairport Convention version, and I have to say, Wine and Alchemy's is at least as good.  Hoping I catch them doing it at Scarby!

Yes, ChrisB, you guys recovered fine.  I was down at Dra's yesteday and you guys sounded great.

A wondrous band. Very moving. Sorry they will not be appearing at Bristol this year. Looking forward to hearing the new CD. It is on order. You have many admirers as the the Green Monk spreads the word throughout the Borderland.

All Blessings be upon thee, thy kith and kin.

Kashmir sounded wonderful yesterday.  I was there last Sunday when you guys were really struggling with technical issues.  I was impressed that everyone just plugged through.  You didn't give up or throw in the towel; you all still gave it 100%.

I love seeing & hearing W&A newbies when they first hear Kashmir.

They really have been great this season despite lots of tecnical difficulties.  Also, personally, I think the fiddle player is HOT!!  ;)

I really have no other reason for walking all the way down to that side of the fair but to hear them play. My baby just loves them everytime I'm over there and they are playing it kicks and moves around.

The last time I was pregnant, we went to the rodeo, and mine LOVED Maroon 5.  Guess babies are naturally music lovers.  Hope you and your little one are doing well.  :)

Were you wearing a black and white outfit with a cat painted on your belly?  I wouldn't have picked you out of the crowd from your profile picture.

We attending this faire for the first time last weekend and loved it.  Really liked these guys, especially their version of Kasmir.  (a lot of Zeppelin would lend itself to this type of music).

What do they put in the mud there - I am still chiseling it off my boots  :P

Don't think Mark does requests.  He has his own set of music that he prefers.   ;D

Leaving a Kaboom show, I accidentally ran into one of your shows last week and loved it!  (working here does get in the way of seeing shows)  I have both CD's now and I cant figure which is better.

It was a fun acoustic show on the picnic tables during the rain yesterday.    ;D

The new CD is awesome, but I still think you all sound great at the live sets!  Chris, Cat & Roxanne, thanks for stopping by the BDT Star stage!  It was nice seeing people I know in the audience  :)
Oh, did I mention that the new CD is AWESOME  8)

Tukaram,

The accoustic shows are always interesting.  I think the weather was such that everyone was just trying to make the best of it and stay light hearted.

Matty Groves was definately the one that stuck out in my mind.  None of us could hear Roxanna singing since she was standing in front of us and facing away from us so we were all talking to each other the whole time, trying to figure out where we were because I think we all que off of her vocals.  Then I got distracted and missed the que for the last 45 second fiddle solo, and we all just sat there looking at each other.  The funny part is that most the people there didn't seem to recognize that anything was missing.  I guess the band members weren't the only people drinking by that point......  ;)  I think the word for the day for everyone on Saturday was "contingency".

Al-Nimer

It was fun getting to watch one of your sets.  I will try to make the 3:00 soon so we can take in a longer one.  Great talking to you, and I am sure I will see you in the upcoming 3 weeks.

Al Nimer, it was great to see one of your sets.

For the record, Chris, I like the accoustic sets better. They have a special magic to them.

Hey Chris,
On the new CD, what tracks are you featured as the fiddler?  Just curious.

Al-Nimer,

Corrin is playing all the fiddle parts on the CD.  At this stage, I am just playing Scarborough with them and am not sure where it goes after that.  I started playing with them a week before Scarby so I haven't been there long.

If they drop me for another fiddle, I will hopefully get picked up by another group out at TRF.  If not, I am perfectly content being a playtron and rockin the armor every weekend.  I have a few surprises up my sleeves in new looks and armor sets that haven't seen the light of day yet.....

That's cool...I could have sworn you were playing on at least one or two of the tracks, especially when I saw your name in the credits.  Looking forward to seeing what surprises you bring...we'll be back on pirate weekend!

My daughter introduced me to these wonderful artists this past weekend. (She has a crush on Mark...but who wouldn't. I'm a hetero dude and that guy is HAWT!) Anyhoooooo... we enjoyed the music...bought both CD's and I listened to them twice today.

Very nice!

I'll be back next weekend again to take in some more tunes!
