So...
I just applied at The H in Midland. The job is almost exactly what I did on the Island, pays $2.15 an hour more than I'm making now and has full benefits!!!
Gah!!! *Crossing my fingers*
Wish ya luck! :)
Good luck!
Good Luck!!!
And its a lot closer to home.
Luck! :)
no idea what that is.. but hope ya get it.
Good luck! What's H and the Island by the way?
Jon.

LOL! The H is an upscale hotel in Midland owned by Dow. The Island is Mackinac Island. I spent 5 years at one of the resorts there working as a banquet supervisor, which, as it turns out, is almost exactly what The H is looking for.
Sending you lots of luck...
Luck to you, MaelStrom
Sounds cool. Hope you get. Vacation jobs seem to be a neat thing to do. I've always wanted to run the locomotive at Cedar Point, but I'd never be able to drive that evryday.

LOL! Yea, those would be fun. I used to dream of playing one of the characters at Disney until I found out the tallest you can be is 5'8" and that's to play Goofy. Being 6'3" ruled that out for me. :-[
In my line of work, I supervise banquet functions which, during the summer months, means weddings, which means brides and mothers of brides and drunken groomsmen and 3rd cousins, twice removed, who feel they should get something for free and so on and so on and so on.
Still sounds good. because you're helping people have a good time. And making some dough in the process.
So...
The upside is that I now have an interview set up for Thursday. The downside is that if I do get the job, I lose out on a $4k job a friend had hired me for. I s'pose it's too much to ask the Universe for both, so I'll definitely take the full-time job!
It the interview is Thursday, how do you know when the job would start if you get it? Is is possible to to work both into your schedule. $4K is $4K and well worth some rearranging!
Jon.

That's Plan A. Unfortunately, it's a week at a time over the course of a couple months. Dunno if The H will go for it, but I'm going to see what I can do.
Ooooh The H! Fancy shmancy place. lol I keep forgetting how close you guys live to us.
Good Luck to You!!!!
Thanks Flidais!!!
And if I do get the job, I'll be...like two feet from the Tridge so we'll definitely be stopping by for a visit!!
Just got some good news on a back-up plan as well...
Sandy just got hired at Dow Corning and she and the guy interviewing her got to talking about me and my experience. If The H doesn't work out, I'm to call him directly!
Hmmmm..I guess not all of our good karma got used up on our son after all!!!
Yes you will be very close. And maybe next year you can convince them that they want to do a beer tent for our highland festival. I don't think we've ever asked, but they are so close, it would be perfect.

Technically speaking, $4K would $4,096.00, a sum I'm quite sure never came up in the course of the discussion.
/Yeah, I'm a giant nerd.
lol.. around computers much?? but ya i highly doubt that number was brought up.
So...
Round 1 went well. Should here about Round 2 by mid next week!!
Wooohoooo!!!!
I hate that round 2 stuff. The waiting just eats at ya. But, just take it easy.
Just got the call today for the 2nd interview!! Keep your fingers crossed!!!
Right On. Keep thinkin positive.
You'll get it... keep the faith!!

Went through Round 2 and found out it's down to me and two others. Should know the result sometime this week.
Grrrrrrr! I hate waiting!!!
Watch them internal applicants, they do get preferred treatment even if they aren't qualified. I've seen it done at my work. And they were both internal apllicants for a better or different position that required different skills, but because they liked the one guy that wasn't qualified and didn't like the guy that was qualified they took the unqualified guy instead. That just goes to show there's favortism in the work place all over, and it really doesn't matter if you can actually do the job, it's who you rub elbows with. Keep the faith. Though this is just an incident I heard of so don't feel bad if they take that other guy/girl over you, that guy/girl is probably just a brown noser. But, still I'm rootin for ya.

Good News: I GOT THE JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bad News: No camping or full Faire weeknds for us this year. With both of us starting new jobs (her at Dow or hopefully Consumers) this late in the summer, neither of us wants to ask for time off just yet. So we'll be "Day-Tripping" as we can. I promise to pay off on those drinks as I see each of you!! Thanks so much for everyone sendin' me their good luck!!!
Many congrats to you. Nice to hear of someone getting work in Michigan.
Congrats, dood! ;D
