Title: Closing Weekend and Favorite Memories of 2009
Post by: eloquentXI on May 25, 2009, 11:26:34 PM
Closing Weekend was awesome! Between the hang out at the pool at the Super 8, Mr. Gigglesworth and B*tch Slappin' Bonnie, to playing Keep-Away-The-Mug-From-LJ, the visit by Cap'n SIN and the Bayou Scoundrels, and the Day of Wrong and its oh-so-wrongness, it was such an awesome weekend. So many laughs and good times with everyone.

This was truly an incredible season, filled with tears and laughter, and a feeling of family as we came together to take care of each other in our times of need and loss, and as we will continue to as long as time allows us.

Beyond anything, I just have an overwhelming feeling of gratitude and thankfulness to all of you. This season was incredible but it wouldn't have been the same without you. I can't begin to describe the feeling of being blessed for having the chance to spend time with those that I could. TRF can't get here soon enough!  :-*

This weekend was the first time I  specifically saught out members of R/F.  It was wonderful meeting everyone. So many great people are around here.  The weather was nice, except for the one cloud burst when I was there. My only bad thing on the whole season was that when I got out of my car yesterday I didn't notice the 6 fire ant mounds all around the car.  I spent the day at the faire with my feet swollen up and painful yet because I love this faire so much I still did cannon to the last show.    ::)

Like other's I'm looking forward to the next faire.   By Scarby next year I'm having my own ren boots, no more fire ants!  ;D

For me, it was about many things. Finally being able to make it this year would be a large one to begin with. Being almost totally in garb for the first time would be another; everything except the boots (cowboy) and the hat (Colombia bush). Recognizing and being recognized by other Rennies, talking to them, being friends. And, of course, being more involved with the festival.

Wow. I love being at faire.
This weekend was fantastic. We didn't make it to the meet/greet on any day except Saturday but still managed to see so very many people all day every day. Got tons of videos to edit over the next couple of weeks.
Spending the day with friends at faire and then spending the evenings hanging out around the pool relaxing is always wonderful and just about the bestest thing ever.
For those who we have known, it was great to see you all again! For those we met... Fantastic to meet you (and be prepared to introduced yourself again... I am horrible with names)! For those we didn't get to meet, perhaps next time our paths will cross...
I deeply love that lost in time feeling on faire weekends when the rest of the world just melts away while I walk the lanes with my Love.

*and enjoying rum gifts at faire is also pretty darn cool too!*

I have been going to TRF all my life (I was raised in Magnolia) but it was this season at Scarby that I had the most fun I have ever had at faire. I got my first set of garb (thanks for the help Blue) and made more new friends then I can shake a stick at. I do have one complaint and that is there isn't enough time in the day nor the weekends ever long enough to hang out with everyone. The beer was flowin' and the company was the best. You can't beat that. To everyone I met this weekend, I hope to see you again soon and to those I didn't get to meet I hope I get to meet you soon.

This year I was able to actually meet more R/F people than ever before. For the most part the weather
co-operated in not broiling us like lobsters.
A lot of the Faire people/cast/entertainers were moved around to different routines so we ended up seeing more of the Faire overall than we have for years.
The twenty minute shower on the 7th Saturday was entertaining in its way. We stood under shelter and watched the visitors run for the exits. It was humid afterwards; but most of the people who stayed were in garb. That was memorable for obvious reasons.

Thank you to everyone who came to the meet & greets, I probably wouldn't have met all you nice people otherwise!

See? I do post every once in a while.

So it was wonderful to see you all this weekend, I had a blast, and I hope you all did too! Everyone looked fantastic :D

I am SO not built for the heat, however.

Hugs to all, and see you at TRF!!!

I have many favorite faire moments, however, this last weekend has given me not only a story, but a mystery as well. My wife and I worked her father's shop this season and we have three children whom we drag along as well. The last day of 2009 we decided the kids might get a kick out of being knighted. VIII knighted our son, Sir Tristan who is eight years old and took the ceremony very seriously. The line was broken into two due to the number of girls and as we have two of them, one for each line. Our youngest at 18 months was carried up by me and gave a bit of attitude to the Queen, however, she was still given the title of Lady Kathryn Pryde. While she was up there, our oldest daughter, age six, went up and I witnessed about four other girls finishing and announced while she was still on her knees speaking to the Queen. I turned away to speak to some friends only to turn back and find that both Queens and the Lady who escorted her in tears. They spoke with broken voices and wiped back tears as our daughter was knighted and announced, Lady Trinity. I, and her family as well as faire family, asked her what she said to invoke such a response. Her answer was, "The Queen said some stuff. I said some stuff. We talked." "About what", I asked. "I don't remember." Now over twenty people are walking around with big question marks over their heads... I think I have a bard on my hands. ??? ;)

Hello and huzzah to another WONDERFUL Season at Scarborough Renaissance Festival!! I myself have only attended for a couple of trips in the last two years but What Fun Was Had!! I got to meet with and pass out my Tokens to many and I was delighted to see that many people had theirs from last year!  I am taking many good memories back home to drear Mundainia and they will keep my heart light until TRF. I got to meet Rani Z from the hinterlands to the North and that (And the pictures taken! ) will be a highlight of this season! Captain Sin and the crew of the Bayou Scoundrel made me feel both at home and (Some Who Shall Not Be Mentioned ) Very Welcome! My thanks to them all for the constant attention and praise for my (LUCKY) success after Gastric Bypass Surgery. (A side note to Willa Swallow and Anita Goodman, Congratulations on YOUR successes! Keep Moving Forward!!) The MOST Poignant Moment goes to Sholo's Show at the White Horse on Monday (A day NOT originally planned for our attendace) Before the show Sholo stood and recognized the Veterans,From ALL Wars, and asked them to sign several American Flags, I was standing near Lord Jarhead and Grov. They signed the Flags and I offered my assistance to LJ to fold the Flag that he had signed. I felt a rush as he guided me through the steps (Yes,I have folded many paper footballs but THIS was an American Flag AND people were watching us!) As we finished I shook LJ's hand and I was Thrilled at the connection that I got in simply recognizing, not only a Vetran but one I KNOW. A little time passed then Grov and I folded the Flag he had signed. I felt the same rush of Gratitude and again received a Firm Handshake. Grov and LJ folded the third Flag as cameras clicked away!! One Flag went to the oldest Vetran in attendance, a spry woman who had served in World War Two!! The two others will be sent to "The Front" as Sholo stated. This was a stellar Moment that I will Treasure Forever and the fact that it happend at Scarby makes it that much Better!!

Ah, what a way to celebrate!  This weekend was not only closing weekend of Scarby, but our 14th wedding anniversary.  Many thanks to those who arranged that scheduling (!).  We truly enjoyed our time with the clan, and meeting a few new-to-us folks (What fun you are!).  We also apologize for, um, being a little scarce... but it WAS our anniversary!  Can't wait for Thanksgiving!!!

As always, it is a pleasure to have friends such as ya'll.
Thank you; Thank you to everyone out there who made the concerted effort to bear the rain and humidty and still mustered up the energy to play and be friendly and laugh.
It was a joy as always to meet everyone as I came upon them.
Due to my shows and schedule, I was never able to make it to the meet and greets, but, from what I heard they were well attended.  :)

::CHEERS:: here's to 2009, and here's to TRF! See ya'll out there!

My fondest memory has to be the RF pic on Saturday. OMG I've never laughed so hard.

This year a was a bit different from most other years for me. Not sure why. It seemed I could never make the meet and greets and rarely ran into any my friends from RF. I saw some of you from a distance but never had a chance to stop and chat. I did take some newbies with me almost every weekend (we attended 12 days total, a record for us) and that takes up a lot of time...assuring they see as much as possible, etc. That of course was fun, but Sherry and I agree that we want to let our friends go on their own so we can hook up with some of you guys and get better acquainted.

We will likely make one trip to TRF this year (week after Halloween). We usually have a big event at our house on Halloween and lots of kids would be bitterly disappointed if the big pirate ship (our deck) was not there to visit with "real" pirates and "booty". Anyway, hope to see some of you all at TRF since we missed most of you this year at Scarby. A good year and I looke forward to next...

I have never experienced Faire this way before, and it will never be the same for me again, for which I am more thankful than I'm able to express!!!  I now feel like I'm part of something so incredibly expansive and inclusive that I would never want to go back to my anonymous meanderings of the past, and I look forward to getting to know all of you much better in the coming future!!!

I could never choose just one experience to call favorite... there are so many which stop me in my tracks while I relive the moments at random intervals during my day, and each makes me smile and wish I were there still.  Being knighted into FOKTOP by Queen Bonnie on my last day, meeting both Martin Montgomery and Zaubon, both of whom give great hug, pool party and hilarity at both dinners, hanging at the pub with everyone, walking the lanes (both wet and dry), discovering all the magical little things to see and do around every curve, and camping  and spending the majority of each day with the crew of the Bayou Scoundrel, to name a very few...

I am so in love with the total event, and I can't wait to do it again!!!  It was bliss-on-a-stick, and I'd eat it up and go back for more...

This was  great to meet so many great R/F members, see beautifully dressed patrons, take in the sights and sounds of how Texas puts on a  faire.

Meeting the QUEEN herself, the one and only Queen Bonnie!!! I was humbled in your presence. I shall not forget you or this faire.

WOW!  What a season!  The last weekend was definitely the best one of all for us  :)

It was wonderful to get to meet so many new (to us) RF people, as well as greet everyone we had met before.  Hope to see many of you at TRF at least one weekend in October!

As far as a favorite memory, that is dang near impossible to choose there are so many  ;D

We had so much fun at Scarby this year. It was so wonderful to meet several of you - Queen Bonnie, Lady Dona and Don Juan, Var, Element, Chris and Lady Katherine and Lord Phillip (sorry I could not remember your name Lord Phillip...now if I just knew if it was 1 L or 2 L's!).

We hope to be visiting TRF over Thanksgiving weekend and with a little luck we'll be garbed by then!

One weekend my husband let me sleep in and we got there so late we were parked in what we call "the back 40". From that point forward, he made sure I was up and at 'em early so we could get parked in Row 13. I can guarantee we will have FOF passes next year and bring a fully stocked tailgate!

The most fun we had was the day we walked in just after opening cannon during a torrential downpour (late for the opening due to car troubles grrr!) and the guy at the gate asked if we worked there. We said, "No, we're just nuts!".  Never had so much fun in the rain!

Hope to see y'all soon!

Melissa (& Bob)

There ya go Martin, making my face leak again.  Folding those flags was a very emotional experience for me.  Glad the process came back to me.  It'd been ages since I was gifted with such an honor.  Not since boot camp perhaps.  We never did a lot of flag work on my submarine. Go figure.

I would like to thank everyone that went, whether I found ya or not, for being part of my first trip to Scarby.  Even with the rain and resulting mudslides, I can definitely see me attending Scarby in seasons to come.  If I can manage it, I might hold off on celebrating my birthday for a week or so until that weekend next year.  Get all the hoorah piled in together, ya know.

Twig in person is magnitudes cooler than mere 2d images of her.  Hope she can ply her craft from faire to faire to faire as long as she desires.  Entirely missed the German Twins.  Saw the dry half of a Doktor Kaboom show.  Heard Noobler crooning from the otuside of the crowd.  Great time at faire.

-My DDs interactions with Twig.  Always a joy.
-Sitting at the FoF area with a plate of fish & chips watching Doktor Kaboom.
-Taking my parents to Faire for the first time. (They loved it but I need to plan more time for shopping next year!)
-Getting to buy stuff from Grichels.  I really, really, really hope they are going to be back next season.
-Wine & Alchemy.  Thought we'd have to wait until TRF to see them again.  As with Grichels, I hope they'll be back next year.
-DS getting to enjoy a bit more 'Faire Freedom'.  He's not wandering the Faire alone just yet but he is getting a bit more freedom every year.
-Overcoming my akwardness & insecurities at meeting new people & actually, well, meeting new people.  Its still a bit difficult but I'm working on it.

Woke up yesterday morning and missed something. Scarborough Faire, where was it. I had been there for the past 8 weekends, most every Saturday and a couple of Sundays, a Monday there at the end. Garb, laundered and folded still lies on a bench, reluctant to go to its closet. Black leather boots (with a bit of Scarby mud that must be wiped off...I guess) and a sword lie next to my bed, must I put them away. A new longbow leans in the corner next to the door, purchased on the weekend of the Highland games. Have the wondrous and enticing aromas of incense, cinnamon nuts and turkey legs faded from the air now that the gates have closed. Could one sit in pecan grove and close their eyes and hear pipes and drums, flutes and sweet songs drifting through the branches of the trees, or laughter from Iris and Rose trickle down the hill, children (even us older children)- is their laughter still echoing from the buildings and tree trunks and do magical creatures move from the creeks, fields and forests to live there while we are away. What a wonderful time our Faire is, a fantastic escape from this other world. Here is to all of you magical and wondrous and fantastical people who believe in magic and fantasy and are not afraid to play and keep fun as part of our lives. Here's to Scarborough Faire (as it always has been and always shall be to me) and the real magic that lives there!

See you next year at opening gate 2010, I think I'll leave off cleaning the boots for a bit....
