Hey there everyone. I would just like to notify you all that I've put in a bid for Scarby to host next year's RenDezvous! When the time comes, I'll need all your support for votes and input. Thanks a million- and even though it's not my home faire, it still feels like a home to me. Love you guys!
Voting will start June 4th so we'll keep bugging you about it. :D
Also, Blue, I'm right to assume we'd host it Closing/Memorial Day Weekend, right?
Hell Yeppers !
Well, I'd like to think so!
Otherwise, we could make a play for Opening Weekend or late April. I think that weather is best for the first two, but an extra faire day is really a selling point for most people! Let me know what you guys think we should lobby for.
Scarby!
Scarby!
SCARBY!
SCARBY!
Its true, the heat does get pretty sweltering Closing Weekend. We were lucky this season that Saturday and Sunday were enjoyable, even with the few little rain showers we had. Monday though held up to the usual heat of Closing.
Better temps at Opening is a plus, though, Opening this season was pretty warm for early April.
More faire the better, in my opinion. That third day makes for tired Rennies but its worth it.
Although I havent had the chance to go to Scarby yet. I would think that the temps of Opening weekend would be ideal. Better for people who havent experienced TX heat yet. Although the idea of having a Ren Gathering on a 3 day Faire weekend. Is a seller in my mind. Just remind me when to vote and I'll do it as often as I can ;D
I personally like the idea of closing weekend only because its more days. Well that and the opening weekend a couple of years ago when it snowed.... yes it was a fluke but lodged in my mind.
AAAAAHHHHHHH YEAAHHHHHHHH BOOOYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Something I thought of, was because it was so much fun to see those that did participate, getting everyone from RF.com to get in on the Day of Wrong if Rendevous was Memorial Day Weekend. Just an idea. ;)
Lady Mikayla an' I were discussin' this when the subject of 2010 Rendevous came up.
I suspected that Memorial Day would be the targeted date for logistical reasons for distant travelers... 'owever - neither of us were up for the bloody Texas heat that is usually in play for that weekend, so we may be tempted to swing our vote toward Arizona in February.
*cups 'and t' ear an' 'ears many boos an' hisses*
gud t' nae Iz STILL jus' wrong - ain't it? ;)
Its understandable, the heat can be an issue for some. Its a toughie, cause Arizona is pretty awesome.

I don't want to have to disown you, Molden....
I've wanted to attend this faire for so very long, and it has my vote, no matter what weekend Rendezvous is held. GO SCARBY!
I will be voting for Scarby just gotta get my post count up. ;D
Well, I'm going to put up a poll about this, just to see. We'll have to propose a date I'm sure...
From a Northerner.....
Extreme heat for people who aren't used to it can be very dangerous. And if those people are in garb, even more chance for heat stroke/ heat exhaustion/ dehydration.
Last year at Rendezvous in TN, we spent a part of each day in the first aid with icepacks on. And joined by others, including those used to the heat.
Although Texas locals probably won't be as affected, an earlier, cooler season might be a better choice for those out-of-towners who could have potential problems with the heat.
Just my 2 cents. Hope you don't mind my jumping in, but the purpose of a RenDezvous is for the maximum number of people to come from all over, and if people won't come because of their fear of sweltering heat, it kind of defeats the purpose.
Indeed. The weather is MUCH MUCH cooler the beginning of April...its just a matter of whether people will be willing to sacrifice a full nother day at faire/travel time for cooler tempratures.
Time for my two cents.
Knowing my intolerance for the cold it's hard to believe that I too grew up in those northern climes. When I lived in the frozen north, I considered anything over 75 intolerably hot. This last Memorial Day was much cooler than last year, but I still saw several heat injuries among Texans. For people that are not accustomed to our heat and humidity Memorial Day would be a non starter. More people able to come join us outweighs the extra day of faire. Think of it like us trying to attend MNRF or Sterling in January. I know that I wouldn't even consider exposing myself to that kind of cold without a lot more incentive than faire. On the other extreme which is probably a better example, imaging Scarby running in July-August rather than April-May. Would you be there, in garb, in those months?
Okay like Zaubron I too am not fond of the cold. Being native to Texas I still find the heat to be somewhat intolerable along about Memorial Day. With all the comments about that having been made I think it has been well established that Memorial Day Weekend is not the time so we should move on to "when" as opposed to "when not" I would think that one of the 2 first weekends of Faire would be a much more tolerable time for most. If it were to snow, which we all know was not the norm that year, all the better to resemble the time we are attempting to portray. Okay, that is my penny and a half worth for now.
I would vote for any of the first 4 weekends, maybe Highland Fling weekend being a good one. This year the weather was very "Scottish", being just a bit cool & drizzly in the AM, but warming up nicely into the low 70s, if memory serves.
Any weekend will be fine with me, after all I'm there for all 8 of them
OF course I would vote for Scarby but I will lean a bit toward earlier in the season. Opening weekend is usually cool, the snow was a bit weird but it was the only time in history that occurred. I've been several times on Memorial weekend when the temps were approaching 100 and it always seems to be hot that weekend. I'm for the cooler, nicer weather of April but will cast my vote for Scarby regardless...just let us know when to do so Blue...
Basically, what will happen is there will be a forum-wide vote for next year, and once a faire wins, there's another forum-wide vote concerning the dates. The best that we can do is to make the arguement for earlier in the season and hope that the voters can see reason LOL. I'll post up when it's time for us all to vote. Tell all your friends, and remember to campaign as much as you can. We've got some stiff competition, and we're going to have to work for the votes.
Blue, that is not entirely correct, basically the "Host" chooses the weekend. But many of the hosts have put the choice up to the vote. And as we have learned from past experience, those that travel from out of state prefer the three day weekends, and so far the holiday weekend has always won overwhelmingly. I have always prefered to the rendevouz being a different weekend than the holiday, due to the fact that the holiday weekends seem to be everyones choice for their invasions, and faires like Scarbourough will have ten or twenty groups already there on Memorial Day, if not more. Also those that are members of groups usually have a "annual" event scheduled for those weekends. I for one have been lucky that I have not had to choose between my annual event and rendevoux yet, but I see it happening in the near future if they continue to select memorial day or labor day as the weekend.
Ah, I guess I misunderstood then. Thanks Guard'n. I personally am keeping my vote for either opening weekend or late April (there's always a bit of an invasion because we celebrate about 5 birthdays that weekend). I would be happy to host either. I don't think I'm even going to give Memorial Day a second thought because of the heat. It's just TOO much, even for me.
I concede on the memorial day weekend. I like the idea of late April.
Late April would probably be good. We're hoping to go to PyrateCon in New Orleans next year, so if it's like this year, we'd be missing opening weekend. Some Memorial Day weekends have been OK, but mostly it's too hot to have a really good time.
After mid April would be good. All the foilage should be in and the grounds won't be beaten into a mud hole yet. That would give the out-of-towners a chance to see the beauty of our Faire.
Alright people, we'll be up against some tough competition. We need to make sure that we're ready to put up a good arguement for our faire! Looking at the other faires, we've got a February 3 day weekend at a faire with a proper liquor license, another 3 day weekend possibility in the summer at a northern faire, and a late year faire in Louisiana that is the last show of the season. If we're going to get the votes, we need to be able to give good facetime for Scarby. Not that it needs our help, but a little push won't hurt LOL.
April at Scarby is nice! Memorial day is always too hot. All we can do is try!
I am all for it.
Voting has begun!
I voted!! We're in the lead but Sterling is breathing down our necks. Everyone better vote!!
"heavy breathing" lol :D! Isn't this exciting !
You can do it baby, I have faith in you!!!
All votes need to be resubmitted! See the Rendezvous voting thread for details!
Okay, here we go again.
I just looked, and now I'm lost. Where do we go to vote now?
They're figuring that out right now.
Having to revamp the voting system because of glitches but the mods will put out an announcement once its decided.
Thank you. GLad to know I wasnt missing a thread some where
Guys, if we want to win this, we're going to have to be VIGILANT!!!
We went to Scarby for the first time this year and loved it - you got my vote. I need to get m'lady registered here so she can vote too!

As of now, members can only vote if they've been a member since June 1st/have 25 posts...though I feel like that is hazy a bit, unfortunately, from what I take, your lovely lady won't be able to vote because she hasn't been a member long enough. :(
Sorry to disagree lass but I thought it was very plainly stated. Although I hate that we would lose a vote it is still plain what the rule is.

Even I am really confused as to who can and who can't voted because of the rules changing so I don't know right now.
At what point, that was what the rule was, so who knows? Once I find out though, I'll make sure its clearly stated in the thread. They're revamping a lot of things right now.
EDIT:
As taken directly from the Official Rules and Regulations thread posted by the mods-
1.On June 1st, LadyJessica will post which faires are in the running for the RenDezvous.
2.A members' vote will only count if they were a member before June 1st of that year and have at least 25 posts.
3.Everyone will have one month in which to place his or her vote.
4.Each member has one vote and one vote only.
5.For that vote to count the member must make the vote themselves. You cannot ask someone to make it for you.
6.Please keep the voting thread to votes only.
7. Votes must be made in the thread. You can not Renmail your vote. The sytems for voting and how votes are counted is being modified so I'm sure they'll tell us soon how the re-voting will happen.
I'd love to get as many votes as possible and would love for Gauwyn of Brocknells wife to be able to vote but gotta follow the rules.
Well, Scarby was out front when the "hanging chad" controversy broke out! Everyone keep a weather eye for when voting resumes, it is likely to be a very tight vote....
Indeed, there are in competition with three other faires, all which are on my Must Visit list, and all sound absolutely wonderful.
But more than anything, I would love for Rendezvous to come to our faire in 2010, because it will be my first and probably only Rendezvous for the next couple years. So many wonderful people to finally meet and for friends and family to reconvene.
Keeps your eyes peeled for when voting recomences, we need every single one of those votes we had originally and even more!
just FYI...Voting is open again
I just voted for Scarby.
Just voted for Scarby. Huzzah! Hope everyone who voted last time does so this time as well.
I just voted. I hope Scarby takes the lead again and keeps it
Cast my vote. There seem to be quite a few for Scarby.
I just did a running tally of the votes cast on the voting thread and as of 8:45 pm today they are as follows. AZ-17, LA-16, Scarborough-40, and Sterling-13.

Huzzah! Thanks for the count, dragonslayer!
That is the same numbers I got. :)
Let's hope the mailed in votes help keep our numbers up ;D
But lets not let the numbers get us overconfident!
If anyone hasn't voted yet (for whatever faire they want to vote for!), you should get out there and do so soon.
Voted...got no clue what this RenDezvous is but if it brings in more wenches then I'm for it! ;D
IF THERE ISN"T VOTING, I WILL HUNT ALL THE NON VOTERS DOWN!!!!
