Welcome to the Official Clan Mclotofus Camping Thread for the 2009 Season!
Alright kids, it's that time again! We're getting the ball rolling a bit early this year, as we are undergoing some changes in the way the clan is taken care of. Due to the fact that we have grown exponentially in the past 8 months, there were some issues that we had to address during our camp planning sessions.
If you are wanting to sign up to camp with us this season, please go to www.mclotofus.com/forums (http://www.mclotofus.com/forums) and throw your name in. Please take note that I will be keeping a running tally here on the boards, but all sign-ups MUST go through the McLotofus forums.
One of the changes that we discussed for this year is the need for more donations to keep our humble camp in working condition. In the past, we have relied on sporadic donations to help cushion the costs of food, drink, and supplies. Previously, our wonderful camp cook Zaubon has shouldered all of the financial responsibility for this. We have become so large that it is no longer an option. Also, please understand that inability to contribute will NOT mean that you may not camp with us. We would still love to have all of you, and nobody leaves our camp hungry or thirsty. We're just asking that you help us out as much as you can.
The second topic is camp upkeep. There are many tasks that need to be undertaken in order for our camp to be safe and clean. We are asking for volunteers for clean up, fire duty, and other such tasks. There will be a list on the McLotofus website where you can volunteer your time and services
Now that we've gotten all the bureaucratic crap out of the way, let's get together for the BIG 3!!!
Clan McLotofus will be present at Row 7/8 again this year for the Big 3 weekends- Opening (Oct 10/11), All Hallows Eve (Oct 31/Nov 1), and Closing Weekend (Nov 26-29) which will host the Clan McLotofus 3rd Annual TRF Thanksgiving Dinner. Remember, in order to sign up, please go to www.mclotofus.com/forums (http://www.mclotofus.com/forums) and give us your information. Details will be provided there.
ON ALL OTHER WEEKENDS, CAMP KITCHEN WILL NOT BE OPEN! On those weekends, Row 8 will be open to McLotofus, but there will be no provisions for food and drink, unless it is planned by other clan members.

Is this thread only going to include those camping with ML or will this also double as the who/when/where thread?
I ask because, while we camp almost every weekend we are there with ML, there are some weekends we camp with other groups for various reasons.
We won't know for certain which weekends we are going to be out yet because our plans will be made based on when our house is finished (*gasp* we might miss a faire weekend because we are moving dimmit)
*wonder if I should drink all the rum or pack it and just buy more... hmmm*
Please be sure to put us on the list for the Big 3! We will also be all other weekends as well. ;D

James and I will be there again for Halloween, We are planning on flying in on Thursday and back out again Monday (same as last year).
The 'Shark will be dropping anchor for the big 3, and likely most other weekends as well. Some refitting is being done now, but all should be ready in time...

The pirate hoochie will be there for the big three, and most likely every weekend as well.
Also, I will likely have a guest with me. I'll not name the puppy yet...let's wait and see if he's still around come Faire time. If I keep him, though, I'll update on my guest info. ;)
To be honest, depending on whenever I get there and where the Clan gets staked out, if it is super close to the Drum Circle again, I might be seeking space elsewhere, no insult to everyone who has been so gracious and offered and taken care of me.
I just would like to get some sleep the few times I'll be there this season. You know I will still be spending much time with everyone. ^_^

QUESTION:
Do most of the campers also camp on Sunday and pull up tents on Monday morning?
I plan on coming down Friday evening on opening weekend. If I plan on partaking in the brew on Sunday...I'd prefer to not drive. If most people dont camp Sunday...I'll just drink water on Sunday and rive home that night.
There are normally a few hold outs that don't leave until Monday, but the kitchen goes home on Sunday. So if you're staying Sunday night bring something to eat.
Compared to Friday and Saturday night the camp ground is pretty well empty on Sunday night, but there are a few of us who stay Sunday night. Sunday night is actually one of my favorite nights, you can sit around and relax with good friends and actually talk in a normal tone of voice and people can hear you :)
Alright everyone, I need to ask a favor. When you go to the McLotofus forums, please please please sign up with the same name as you have on here. It makes our lovely Admin's job 10 times easier!
Planning on Opening, HallowsEve (near the BS Crew), and Closing) all else TBD.
I need to upgrade to a large-ish tent & SUV, since we'll be rolling in friday afternoon(AHE) and staying the whole weekend.
Just to let everyone know, the annual Drunken Gnomes Loki Contest will be held in the campgrounds on Friday, October 30, 2009. We'll need judges and helpers, nobody under age 21 is allowed. Details and rules will be posted soon.

Blue - Have any plans been made for Closing weekend this year? We paid up for last years but were unable to make it (Wine and Alchemy). Hopefully we'll be able to make it this year if ya'll put something together.
Well, for closing, I'll be hosting Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday for all the die-hard rennies. After that, we don't really have a plan yet for a last huzzah. I'm sure we'll have something wonderful though!

It finally looks like things are going to work out enough for hubby and I to make it halloween and closing weekends. Money will be tight but we have gone with less before. This will be my 10th year going and I really didn't want this year to be the first I have missed since '99. We would like to request a spot to camp with Mclotofus again this year.(yes I already posted in the Mclotofus forums)

For AHE 5 people and one large trailer. For the other 2 of the big 3, 3 people and a small trailer.
So..an update:
I will be attending every weekend that I'm aware of.
Camping, turns out first weekend I'll be camping with Brigadoon, which is near row 8 or 9 in the middle near that concession shop. All of my non faire friends will be coming in that weekend, you see, so they've already made arrangements to camp with the Briggies (and I have a few pals in that Clan as well.)
Every other weekend I will be camping with McLotofus or Phoneix Risen.
Just put me as attending every weekend for now, but not necessarily camping. When I figure out which weekends i'm camping with y'all, i'll let you know :D

Well, I'm gearing up for what is going to prove to be a really awesome year! I've got the camp planned, the RVs set, the tents pseudo coordinated LOL, and the patch reconned. Two more weeks and we're in like flynn!
FYI, please note that all flatbed trailers will be kept on our side borders. There is NO DRIVING through camp, please park all vehicles on the opposite side, or directlly off the road in front of camp. Thanks!!!

Remember that EZ up I brought last year? Well, I'm using that as my tent this year, with curtain walls, so I can just back into it and open my back hutch. That way, I'm not sleeping on the cold, wet, insect infested ground! I will put it closest to drum circle since I'll be going there when it's a good one.

We have been offered discounted tickets, which we really and truely appreciate, but there is still the issue of gas (I have a gas gussling Ford F250 V10) food and beverages to consider.
We have talked about it and if we can only attend one weekend, it will be AHE, but we haven't given up on closing weekend yet...just have to wait and see. Pray that I can get another job pretty soon...

We have talked about it and if we can only attend one weekend, it will be AHE, but we haven't given up on closing weekend yet...just have to wait and see. Pray that I can get another job pretty soon...

opening weekend...will be in a one car, one truck towing 27 ft camper trailer. there may be one in a tent.

Home stretch for Opening Weekend. Camp plans are put together and ready to go. Can't wait to get out there and get-r-done! Bonbon, I'm going to need someone to bring me the stakes, as well as a rake and ant killer.
And can I borrow a ticket from someone please? Just a loan for the day *pouts*
Blue brings up a good point. The anticipated rains will bring out our fire ant friends in droves. Spread fire ant killer in your area before you laydown your tent and spread it at least 10 feet beyond. I spread at least two bags in the Drunken Gnome/The Claw/and Chaos areas when I first arrive. The best kind is the one that doesn't need water to be sprayed after application.
Grass rake is needed to clear off the long grass cut just before opening.
Be prepared for lots of water and mud opening weekend. Waterproof your tents. Keep tent contents off of ground level.
Everyone's shuffling about getting things prepared! I can't wait to see everyone!

I think I am going to be able to camp but won't know for sure until Friday. Probably can't make it until Saturday morn. I may not be able to get away from rig in time. I would just have tent & bottle of Jager! I will give Bonnie Pearl a call when I know for sure.

You can always come to the camp row8 before or after the fair and of course we always do the meet and greet daily at the Prince of Whales for the parade.

I've been fiddling with camp layout again LOL, and it's looking quite promising. We will be 80 strong for this AHE, and will be needing to use every inch of space that we can get our grubby little hands on.
Please remember that we are working off of a donation base here, so anything that can be added to the folds is fabulous. Normally we ask for at least 20 per member for the weekend, but it's not mandatory (just REALLY appreciated). We need noms for breakfast and dinner for chili night. Also, please remember that there's nothing wrong with bringing BEER!!!!
If you have not already, please go to paypal and send in your cash (feedmybelly@mclotofus.com) so that we can get our groceries prepared. If you have opted to bring food or drink or supplies instead of cash, please go to the WHAT WE NEED TO FEED thread and sound off.
Space will not be too big of an issue, as I will be getting us two full rows, and extending our back borders to Brigadoon and Valhalla. It will be a little snug, but cozy, and I'll try to accommodate everyone as I can.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE:
WHEN SETTING UP CAMP, WE GO OFF OF A MAP. I WILL FACE THE TENTS THE WAY THEY NEED TO BE IN ORDER FOR THEM TO FALL INTO FORMATION. I just found out about my friends needing someone to camp with this weekend about twenty minutes ago.
So, hopefully if it would be possible, could I have my 10x16, the 10x10, and then the 9 x 9 tent next to each other.
Again, sorry for it being so last minute.

Thanks for the Hospitality and good times Saturday, Bonnie! You and the Fam are great and Trea and I greatly appreciated the drinks and seats (I'll try and remember to bring some chairs for next weekend if I manage to camp!). Sorry we couldn't stay longer to visit but Trea can't camp right now with his job (he's on-call and has to be within a certain range to get to the Hospital in time), but I'm hoping he can work some magic and get a time off-call pass for this coming weekend! His tent is about 10 x 19 and he is planning on getting there sometime on Friday. Also my daughter will be joining us on Saturday morning but she will be in the tent with my husband and I. Hey guys. I met you guys this past weekend, not sure if I'll be remembered but I'm Hayley, a.k.a. Jingle obviously (a friend of Mouse). I thoroughly enjoyed meeting you all and felt very welcome!

You can't know how hard it this past weekend for me. Driving out of the parking lot passed the campground on our way home Saturday evening feeling a huge yearning (or was it withdrawal?) to stay. We were driving so slow in the traffic, I wanted to just jump out and make a run for it. :) Never had to leave with all the crowds before, but the family had to get back. We were so desperate to make the last weekend that we "day tripped" to faire from Dallas area arriving after noon on Saturday just missing the meet/greet photo and so many shows only to have to leave about 7pm to head back to Dallas area. I'm just thrilled we actually made it for the short time we were there. The "faire virgins" had a blast and want to comeback next year. (I'm still debating as to whether this is a good thing or not.) :)
So, I just wanted to say I was saddened I didn't get to see everyone at McLotofus one last time. If you will all forgive us for not making it there this time, we will try again next year to make the pot luck dinner. It should be much easier now that some of the family have had a "taste" of the faire. :) (Bad pun, I know.)
It was probably a good thing we didn't stay seeing that I misplaced my voice somewhere the night before trying to talk over my obnoxiously loud family at our Thanksgiving dinner. :) Seems to be all better, now.
