Title: Weapons Policy This Year
Post by: Poldugarian Warrior on June 03, 2009, 02:58:30 AM
I hate to bring this subject up because evrytime it seems to ignite a heated debate. So I'll let you all know I've heard both sides and both have valid points. Just would like to know. Can I carry my steel this year again or change over to plastic again? Any information on this would be much appreciated.

Best thing to do would be to call the office at (800) 601-4848 and get the word straight from the horses mouth, so to speak.

Just got off the phone with them about it and so far you can still bring in your steel as long as it is part of your garb and it's peace-tied. Again that's as of today (6/3/09 at 1:51 central time (2:51 for you eastern timers)).

Thanks for the info. I looked on the site and they didn't even have anything about the policy, so after checking that out that's when I posted the thread cause I knew someone here would know.

With no real problems last year with the 'no weapons allowed'  ( hah! ) policy, the word I heard was it's ok; as long as it is within current regs.     I think you're safe.   :)

And someone here DID know - That was Mags, and she DOES KNOW: the best way to find out the OFFICIAL POLICY for this year is to: Call the MIRF office, and get it straight from MIRF Management.

AND she even knew enough to supply the correct phone number for the convenience of any curious person who really wants to know. Very thoughtful, Sweete Layde!

Much smarter than relying on a bunch of people saying: "Well I HEARD...." or "My Friend told me..."

There's already one post like that, and I suspect it won't be the last we'll see as the season gears up.

Cheers, all!  ;D

Well said there Katie.  And thanks to Celtic Lady for reporting in what she heard from the main office of MIRF.

When you are looking to find out "Official MIRF Policy" about anything - it is best to call the main office and get the word from the MIRF people directly rather than relying on hearsay and guesswork.

I certainly would not want to lug a bunch of weapons (or anything) from my car to the main gate and back because you heard from some vendor, act, cast member etc. what the policy was.

I carry both plastic and steel swords to faire, because some years the policy changed daily. Just figured people on this thread are more connected to the faire and they'd know, because in the Renaissance mag they state a no weapons policy for this year, and what I've read on this forum from a few people when calling the main office, they were given excuses for why the policies and schedules changed. So it seems maybe they have different people manning the phones that don't field questions very well. At any rate, thanks again, I'm not much of a phone person myself so I don't blame them.

... yeah...   go ahead and get the 'Offcial Word From The Horse's Mouth!'  (.. cuz we all know how 'official' it is...  they're very organized. )

As far as I know, 2 years ago it was a 'no weapon' policy, and last year there was no stance.  I carried a sword both years.  Hell - Security would check my peace-tie every time they'd see me just to mess with me.

You get a written statement notarized and approved by 12 lawers ...and I'll wear my sword.

  ;D

My sisters, husbands aunt heard from her dentist's assistant that her mothers friend saw ancient writings on a cave wall outside the shire (but still on the property) that weapons would be allowed this year only if they're painted hunters orange and made of rare Indian Ebony. They should also be peace tied with one strand of depleted uranium enriched fibre.

Call the office  :)

Just to mention one other thing, and that is this has changed in the past over night. So, what is said or written now by office officials may not be true come faire. So, you have to keep checking. This has happened a few times before. Nothing is ever for certain come faire or even the following weeks once it is open. Thanks for posting the number Margaret. This is the best and most accurate info. Always go to the source.

I carry both plastic and steel swords to faire, because some years the policy changed daily. Just figured people on this thread are more connected to the faire and they'd know, *SNIP*

There are actors on this board, and they would have gotten the information from the Entertainment Director....who works in the Office.

There are crafters on this board, who would have gotten the information from the Craft Director....who works in the Office.

There are people who work in the Foods or Games area on this board, who would have gotten it from their supervisor...who works in the Office.

Celtic Lady knows, and was kind enough to post it here, because she called and got the information directly from Faire...from the Office.

Mags and Myself are acquainted pretty well with two people who work for Mirf --you guessed it-- IN THE OFFICE.

THE REASON, or EXCUSE for the Policy doesn't matter. The Policy is the Policy. If they want, they can change it MID DAY on any Faire Day. It's their Faire. They make the rules and the reasons behind them are their business. If you get by them, consider yourself lucky that you were missed. If not, well, then, if you feel that strongly about it, try to sneak it in another day. But whether they let you pass with it or not doesn't change the policy.

'Tis truly funny but true in the way hearsay goes. Reminds me of the commercial where a kid is having lunch and brings out some kind of treat (oreo snack cakes or something). One student sitting next to him passed this fact to the kid sitting next to him and from there it started. Each time the story was slightly changed. When it reached the boy with the snack cake it was sooooo out reality that he was confused about who and what it was about.

As for the info that I posted notice how I included the date and time that I received it. I know that the policies and events change without much notice. So like everyone else has stated "call the office". Be happy that we have a faire.

Please call the MIRF office for any further information on the weapons policy.
As stated above....the number to call is 800-601-4848.  They will most certainly be more than happy to answer your questions concerning this matter.

On that note, to avoid the annual weapons debate, I am going to lock this thread.
