Title: Opening Day
Post by: Jonas_MacPherson on June 13, 2009, 08:14:37 PM
So, who wants to share? Anything exciting happen?

For me, absolutely nothing truely exciting happened. A new pair of boots, a major boost in moral, and strongly excited about returning tomorrow to see what adventures await.

Best moment of the day...hearing the imperial march on bag pipes as the king passed through.

Yes yes! Tell me what I missed! I want to know everything!! :P....especially if it involved the joust!!  Like who won today?  My prediction tells me that Sir William won and everyone else died....

It was a very fun opening day. The temps were in the 60's to mid 70's Hated the wind and all the dust. Surprising it was fairly dray on site considerig all the rain Colorado has had... well northern Colorado maybe not Larkspurshire

Got a new black tall hat and a green scarf to go around it (matches my new dress better than the brown one I had also with a green scarf around it. Got a new waterproof parasol in black and gold so it will match all my dresses. LOST my green feather fan as the stupid cheapo Hobby Lobby chain broke.

Saw many friends and missed many others.

Had two pieces of excitement. The first walking through Pirates pub and as I past someone was lifting up my skirt. I spun around and it was a woman and she said "I just wanted to know what you had under that skirt" So I proceded to lift up my over skirt, then my under skirt and then my farthingale to show her my bloomers. I got a "NICE Legs for that" As I was doing that a guy behind me with four beers in hand face planted himself and dropped two of his 4 beers. Lucky me I only got a drop on my bare legs. I guess my legs distracted him :)

The 2nd I had this very pretty little female red head pirate in all blue start hitting on me. She claimed she knew me from 6 years ago and told me I was "EVIL" which I had to agree since I was a noble. She kept hitting on me as Toki stood there as this cute pirate girl insisted on a photo with me. Then all of a sudden she just took off. HUMMM What was up with that?

So over all a fun day. See many of you next Saturday.

Mostly a Sunny wind swooshed day in the picnic area where two Bumbershoots took flight with one being broken.

Found many RF'ers from  here, there. lets see in order........ Tanda looking like a movie Star, Mistress Charlotte busy as always, then Capt Riley, and Zoe looking a lovely Elizabeth, Fighting Irish whom did not have the Hefewiesen I was desiring at her Bar, the family of Matrim, and Sirooo at front gate, with Tessa too.   Then caught Blushing as her shift ended at one vendor and walking her back to the ohter vendor (two jobs at faire) Crossing to Mistress Charlottes where we in time where joined by Gentlemanprivateer, Awen, and Tanda where soon the wind picked up a bumbershoot from a nearby flower garland stand and sent it about 25 feet end over end into the blustery skys above and then finally crashing down at the entrance of another vendor, just missing a small child, and Mother pushing a baby carraige. Soon Aaern and Platt joined us.
Visited Alices shop but she was gone then......
Later I caught up with Demetrius, Nixie,  - Hey, Aren't you, CaptJack, Jess Devine and Rogue Lawrence, Kathleen MacFerno, and Sir Garath, and our very own Professor L, and Lastly the Merry Madrigals, all including the newest member all looking lovely as ever, even wearing the old original dresses.

Apologetic regrets if I have missed mention of any I had seen........

The ladies looked beautiful, the men manly and roguish, and the day drizzed a few times that sent the masses for the exits only to calm just moments later. And a rainbow as occurs frequently in Larkspurshire somehow indicating that all will be just fine.

See you on the good Faire morrow!

I had so much FUN!
I only went to one joust, decided I did not need to sit through them again - so I did other things.
When I asked the knights who won the final, William claimed victory, which I believe as good ALWAYS wins. *sigh*
I watched Charming and Dashing twice. If you haven't seen Charming's new outfit, you need to. I nearly fell over laughing.
I watched the German rappers. Ummm....yeah.
I LOVE Rook's new character.
My most exciting moments were every moment of recognition after a moment of confusion. Yay! And wearing my "I'm not working" glasses. :) Also, waving at everyone in the parade without being it in.

I'm sore, I'm sunburnt, I was filthy, and I'm so Happy about it. Yay Faire!

I'm so sad because I wasn't able to go cause I don't get paid till next week and I had to work yesterday...What made my day though is that while I was at Toys r us a couple came in about 6ish wearing garb and it took me a second to realize it haha. I went up and asked them if they just came back from faire and they were like "Yes".  So I got some festival brought to me at work. Awesome. I should be able to make it out next Sunday- Huzzah!

Great seeing everyone this weekend!  I think it was "former madrigal" day and no one told me.  Michelle, Annika, AND Lauren who was a madrigal in 2005.  What a day!  Oh, we're called "Foxglove" now, not Merrye Madrygal Mavyns (thank god, that name was never any good).  :)

I'd forgotten what true faire exhaustion felt like but don't worry, I remember now.  *Ouch*

Tanda-you didn't like the German Brothers?  I nearly broke a rib laughing in my corset, it hurt so good.  I don't know if I've ever laughed that hard.  We're in the middle of creating a bunch of bits for them to do with us so stay tuned!

Did anyone see LadyRemi's faerie costume on Sunday?  INCREDIBLE!

Thanks Barbie! I was sooooooo glad everyone loved it so much. I think they even turned out better than Spinaka and I had originally planned. :P which makes me ecsatcic. lol

Saturday was good, it was good seeing everyone again after so long. It was kinda boring on some accounts....and a bit strange being back and not actually having any responsibility. I felt very awkward for a few hours. That plus trying my darndest to affect a Russian accent, all at the same time.....phew!...Saturday was very straining. lol

Sunday was a blast! like I said it was better than I could have imagined it to be. All the kids, and pictures and stuff that come along with being a fairie absolutely like...made more than my day. It like made my life. lol. We were told by Queen Titania that we would be inducted into the fairie court. :D Which, if you dont know is a GIGANTIC honor. We had offers from the Fairy Godmother of wishes to do some NP stuff at Childrens Hospital with a group she is involved with...and yeah! that was just amazing. I would love to do that. And most of all, Betty didnt freak. She actually liked our costumes a lot. So that couldn't have been better for us.

I also had a man named Dan come up to me on Sunday and give me a canvas photo (it looked like a painting, but was done digitally then printed on canvas and stretched over a frame) of me as Kitty last year. It was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!!!!! If I hadn't been in such a fragile costume I would have bear hugged him! So its hanging above my desk at home now.  ;D

And now, for my excessively longwinded post.  I'd blame it on being delerious with a cold, but you all know me better than that  :P

Well I'd very glad to hear everyone had a good time!  My own experience on opening weekend was exceptionally odd, from beginning to end.

It all began on Thursday night when I quite suddenly began to feel a cold coming on, in a sensation rather like driving 100 MPH straight into a brick wall.  That, and several other minor irritations seemed to scream at me "DON'T GO TO FAIRE!"  But I ignored these omens and headed out to the festival anyhow.  I am always one to fly in the face of apparently bad omens, which probably explains why a lot of my life goes the way it does, heh.

I was determined to see the new gate show, but I arrived about five minutes after cannon on Saturday, and right as gate show was ending on Sunday.  Maybe next time.  The weirdest thing I encountered right away was the presence of no fewer than 3 Captain Jack Sparrows on the festival site, including Dante, the new "official" Captain Jack.  This in and of itself was not surprising.  The strange part was... I wasn't one of them!  And seeing Dante there in my place was especially weird.  Not bad necessarily, but definitely weird.

The craziest part about it though was all the people who asked me "hey, you played Jack Sparrow here before, didn't you?"  And I'm not talking workers, playtrons, and people I knew.  I mean Joe Mundane off the street.  I was very flattered by everyone saying how they missed me, but I also tried really hard to give Dante support, since he's stepping into a really hard role.

It was weird to camp up the road at the Castle Rock Campground instead of staying onsite, but kind of fun.  Except the aforementioned cold, which kept me up most of the night.  Still, I met some very cool playtrons with whom I'd never talked before, and even tasted a little of their mead to sooth my throat (oh the shock!  Oh the horror! Jack drinking???  I assure you, only half a glass, heh.)

In the end though, I found that I didn't really know what to do at faire without having to be somewhere every five minutes.  I did a lot of shopping, and a lot of talking to old friends, and even a little avoiding of other old "friends," but I didn't really play at all, which kinda' worried me.  I blame it in part on the cold, and in part on the fact that I was saddled with a big group of friends both days, who wouldn't ever let me just fly solo.  But also, I really didn't know how to play under the circumstances.  I'm really concerned that maybe I'm forgetting, and that gives me a sort of cold feeling in the pit of my stomach.  However, it may also be that it's very hard to play when you know everybody there.  Somehow it's easier for me to remain in character and come up with fun bits, and "play make-believe" like a kid does when I'm anonymous.  When people already know me as Michael, and also as Jack Sparrow, it's difficult to play Jack McCool.

By the way, a BIG thank you to everyone who DID try to play with me as Jack McCool, and who even remembered the name!  You guys rocked!

It seemed every time I turned around someone was asking me "Hey, why aren't you back this year?"  Which was nice, but also got kind of old, understandably.  So I'd like to set the record straight here, once and for all:  No, I was not let go.  YES, I did choose to leave on my own.  Why?  Many reasons.  But mainly these:

1. This being the biggest reason, hands down.  "Real Life" got in the way.  School, work, etc. became too much to focus on while giving every weekend to the festival.

2. I was worn out.  Many of you have been there much longer than I have, and are still going, but for some reason I seem to have a shorter faire fuse.  I was just spread way too thin last year, and it started to not be fun anymore.

3. I got tired of Jack Sparrow.  Not that tired, mind you.  I find I really miss him right now.  But just tired enough that I wanted to do something else for a change, and I doubted very greatly that the festival would allow me to do so, since Jack is such a big draw.

So I hope that clears it up.  Next time, hopefully fewer people will need to know.  Not that I'm angry with you if you did ask, honest.  I expected to get asked a lot.

Anyway, towards the end of Sunday my cold took a really nasty turn, and I got into one or two minor squabbles with a couple of friends (probably the result of my getting very little sleep due to said cold), and my mood turned notably sour.  It is because of this that I'd like to apologize to everyone who I may have acted surly to without meaning it.  It wasn't anything personal, I assure you.  I just felt like crap.

It was great to see everyone, and I can't wait to come back, but I'm also glad this weekend is over.  For now, it's lots of sleep and lots of fluid for me, so maybe I'll be well enough to play again eventually.

Im sorry you feel so lousy Cap'n  :-[ colds are sucky anyway, but when they're in the summer...its just insulting! lol. I felt much the same way you did, and thank you for finding the words I could not. I was completely at a loss of what to do not  being contractually required to be doing something every five minutes. I was like...ok...how in the heck am I going to fill 8 hours? omg.

I don't think as many people asked me about my being back or not, but a few did. I think I made it pretty evident through several means that I wasn't coming back before faire even opened. lol. Owell. But to set my record straight too...since the Cap'n did it...I was not let go either, I chose not to come back for many the same, well one of the same reasons he did. Life. grrr. My husband works for the schools here in Douglas County and has summers off, so somebody's got to bring the bacon home  ;)

anyway, yah. It was fun times this weekend, will be back def, on saturday next week....slight possiblity on Sunday, dunno yet tho. Have to work and maybe pick up dads gf from airport, so it may not be worth getting dressed up to go.

Maybe I'll come out in civi's < gasp of horror! >

Yeah, I've got to say, the German Brothers made me laugh my piratey arse off.  It wasn't so much that I knew what songs they were mocking all the time (the only one I actually recognized was "Bringing Sexy Back") just the culture in general.  Plus, their physicality and the tightness of their dialogue drew me right in and had me guffawing at least once a minute.  Does anyone know how long they've been doing this act?  Because it seems really polished and professional, but I got the impression that it's fairly new.

I would say they formed sometime after run of faire last year. One of the brothers was the guy selling shirts and stuff for the washing well wenches lastyear and the year before was working at the nut shop. Not the shop with the crazy people but the one with almonds, really people. If you check out there myspace there is a third one with them there so it might have been this third guy and the other doing it and the other guy joined them sometime in the last year.

Pretzel? I thought it would have been wienerschnitzel and beer... Ohhh that does sound yummy as wienerschnitzel was never a hotdog when I was in Germany but a breaded turkey cutlet with gravy.

I'm trying to figure out what I was thinking when I agreed to two jobs - although I didn't realize the second job would cover whenever I wasn't at the first!

I would like to point out that Capt. Spleen was being VERY modest when he mentioned the incident with the umbrella. He saw it happening and shouted to the mother with the small child to look out and then ran over to grab the umbrella (this was a BIG one) before it hit anyone.

Very heroic, Cap'n!
