Title: Knights of Iron return to Michigan Renaissance Festival!
Post by: L Dale Walter on June 30, 2009, 08:27:11 PM
The Knights of Iron Stage Combat Team are pleased to announce that they have come to an agreement with the Michigan Renaissance Festival to return for the 2009 season, and perform their Aventures of Robin Hood show.

The show takes place over 8 scenes incorporating all of the characters you know and love, and also brings the highly successful "Robin Hood Academy of Swordsmanship" to the stage, where 25 children are selected from the audience to train with Robin Hood, and then get to test their sword fighting skills against the Sheriff of Nottingham!

The show culminates in a human chess match pitting the evil Prince John against the valiant Robin Hood.

We at the Knights of Iron are very pleased to return to the Michigan Renaissance Festival after a three year absence, and we hope our fans will be glad to have us back as well!
See you all August 22nd!

Considering how much fun it was to watch at SilverLeaf, it'll be great to see it played out at Holly.

Welcome back home Dale.  :) Somehow I knew that reports of your retirement were an exaggeration.

Yep, that's you. A big ole boomerang. Emphasis on the BOOM.  :D

Can't wait to see what you lot have in store this season!

....oh, and please tell Prince John that singing and dancing is not very Princely. it isn't. really. not at all.

Oh, Balloon animals are very regal. No problem there.

I mean, you just can't make a decent animal with sausages or bananas. It's just not the same.

Especially Princely is that funny noise made while making baloon animals.

Spent pretty much all day yesterday, and some of this morning finishing jewlery, working up street bits, putting the final touches on the "Outfit"

So...now I need to practice some ballon animals, singing made up songs and potentially dancing...

Good times.

Hee hee....also need to shop for bannanas and sausages, and get a take a number machine....

So much to do so little time.

Ling-ling will be glad to see you too, I suspect.  ;D

So no SINISTER at MIRF. Which will be missed, but now you've got me interested in this Robin Hood show. I remember the 3 Musketeers was that your group? Because that show was good. And I look forward to seeing this Robin Hood Show.

School of Villainy was our show this year for Silver Leaf, and, no, it will not be at MiRF.

The Three Muskteers -vs- The Pirate King ran 2002-03, and Legends Never Die ran 2004-05.  Both shows were Knights of Iron productions.  We also have done Robin Hood at MiRF in 2001, The Legend of King Arthur at Silver Leaf Renaissance Faire in 2005-07, and the show that will be at MiRF this year The Adventures of Robin Hood at Silver Leaf and Charlevoix in 2008.

Hope you enjoy our return to MiRF.  We are very excited about being back after a 3 year absence.

Cool, thanks for clearing that up. And just to let you know that School of Villainy was very funny. It'd be cool if you did that one at MIRF. But, your big productions are the big draw, I'm just more of a fan of the comedy action duo and you do well at that. In the big productions you have too many people stealing your thunder, but I know evryone gets along and it will be a great show. Hope evrythin goes as planned.

Hey, thanks for a great show.  Very entertaining.  Extremely well choreographed.  Some of my favorite shots from last Sunday were of your show.  Now if we could just get a little more sun next time around....

Thanks!  Great shots by the way.  I look really, really, insane as the Sheriff of Nottingham, which I suppose is good when you plan on killing Queen Elizabeth.  Not a great idea on the whole.

What's bad about those pics, is that it looks sort of like crime photos. But, cool pics just the same. L. Dale, you act with quite an intensity. I don't remember that crazy face at SilverLeaf.

Well, he *was* trying to kill the queen, so in essence, they were crime scene photos.   :)

And yes, he had quite an intensity about him.  I thought the performance was highly entertaining.

Those pictures are awesome! I didn't realize Dale looked so demented; I'll have to sit in a different spot next time  ;)

Just wait until you all see it in person; it's great. Whenever the Sheriff or Prince John is fighting, it's ridiculously intense and awesome.

William DeLacey, the Sheriff of Nottingham, is a pretty intense guy.  He is hired muscle to enforce the rule of Prince John.  I see him as a veteran of many wars, very experienced, and beyond caring about who he kills.  If they get in the way, they get dead.  No questions asked.  In Scene III he beats all of the Merry Band singlehandedly.  This is a SERIOUSLY scary individual.

When he sees things starting to unravel he begins to get more desperate, and much more dangerous.  The way he pulls Robin Hood off his game by telling Robin how he killed his father is a classic diversion technique.

I played with the character a bit in rehearsals, trying different takes, but he ends up a lot of time playing straight man to Prince John, and Guy of Gisborne, who are WAY over the top.  I had to "pull him in" character-wise, as the characters started crossing each other up.

It's fun to play bad guys, as they can get away with just about anything...

Those pics. have got me interested more than ever now, to see that show. Been keepin an eye on the weather too closely, evrytime I listen to it they  say rain, the day rains only in the mornin then the day's beautiful. So hopefully this weekend. At some point I must make faire, I bought a season pass, so I should just go on a rainy day as well, I'll just hang out take in the feast and show at the castle and go home that day. If it's a total wash out.

I think ALL of the Highland Games guys have a crush on Will Scarlett as well! <g>

Thanks for the kudos on my Sheriff character.  I do try.

My favorite characters are Maggie and Molly Cutpurse, the "Mop Girls".  I never know what they are going to do next!  For two characters that I created to round out the cast, that have never before appeared in a Robin Hood story, they really took the idea and ran with it.  The first time they handed Gisborne the marshmallows on sticks in the "Trap for Gisborne" scene it stopped rehearsal as we were all laughing so hard!

The guards are doing REALLY well also.  James, played by Chris Prout, was a last minute substitution as our original cast member had family obligations which caused him to drop out.  With two weeks before show to learn the script, and fights, he really busted tail to get his "James" character up to speed.

I am very pleased with the cast, and the crowd reaction to them.  First weekend I had some concerns, but I think the 2 hours and over 200 photos we did at closing gate alleviated any doubts I might have had!

Guess that's a testament to the quality of the show.

Let's see, the first week I ran everything to black and white.  For Labor Day weekend, let's stick with color.  And hey, since the sun was actually out this weekend, the color's better anyway.

Thanks, Jon.  These guys are so easy to shoot.  Love their expressions.  The Battle Chess show is just so well choreographed.  If I could change *one* thing, just one little thing...it would be to push the crowd back off the chessboard about 30 feet so I could get a better bokeh on wider shots (I'm at F2.8 on most of these and the crowd is just a little too in focus; and I'm too lazy to solve it in Photoshop).  But that's just for my own greedy purposes:  bad for the show, good for me.   :)

Speaking of expressions, I kinda liked this one too.  The leg in the air cracks me up for some reason.
