Title: Amber
Post by: Tarac on July 03, 2009, 05:15:17 PM
I know we all love the nectar of the Gods but it is hard to come by I have found a store with 2 more Bottles left in Coon Rapids it is the MGM Liquor store on Coon Rapids Blvd. I already got my 2 and the other 2 are it I guess he has checked with his distributor and it is no where to be found.

Yeah we just discovered because someone with the Royal Guard had some, but the word we heard is that it was discontinued.

That's what I have heard from the inside sources...

Amber is no longer being produced.  So if you can find it, buy it... its a rare commodity now.
Dan and I are looking but haven't found any yet. It makes us sad.

Get it while you can!  I'm still on the hunt for more.  If anyone finds any, maybe they could buy it up and redistribute it between the group here?

Well .. if you want to go to Canada: http://www.bcliquorstores.com/en/products/654814

273 Bottles available ;)

On a serious note ... I've asked Jen (she lives with me, she doesn't have a choice) to see is she can find any.  She's a buyer with a larger wine / liquor store here in Florida.  If so, I'll post and let you know.  If you're serious about buying some, I'd be happy to work something out where I'll ship it up to you.

One of my favorite ways to decompress after a long hard day is to run my G-scale trains on my indoor layout while downing a sizable shot of Amber on ice.  Lights off, headlights reflecting off the tracks as tiny plastic people go about their tiny plastic lives while me, the high lord over-seer make them bow to my every whim...oops, sorry...

So I'm in.  If a few of you would like to pony up for a case put me down for two or three bottles.

Stopped by a random liquor store this afternoon...

Scored 6 bottles of Amber.  ;D :o  I even asked him to go check in back for more.  The bottles are all dusty and looking a bit neglected-that's OK with me.

Who's the filch that snuck up to the MGM store in Coon Rapids and bought the last two bottles without posting here that they bought them?  I made that trip for nothing!

The word from the distributor (National Beverage) here in Florida is, "maybe".  We've asked them to check the central Florida warehouse to see if they have any remaining stock.  No promises ... should know more Monday / Tuesday.

Good score Marietta....

This is pretty close to a maple whisky I have gotten from Quebec - called Sortilege.  I am off to Ottawa in a couple of days and have every intention of looking for it there.  Might even take a stroll across the bridge and check for it in Hull.

Hey MG, 6 bottles would make a REALLY nice house-warming gift!  ;)

Now who do you know that's moving?   ;)

In the next week and a half?   ;)

Who likes Amber?   ;)

Oh for God's sake, I'm wearing out my eye-lid here!   ;)

I have a brother in the restaurant biz and have him checking with his distributer to see if they have any stashed anywhere.  I also have a friend who owns a liquor store checking her distributor our of Chicago.  So, I may be able to lay my hands on some more bottles.  If people are interested let me know so if I get some calls back I'll know they will be purchased so I'm not stuck with several cases of this stuff.  ::)

DB, I called the MGM store before driving down there.  Good thing, that's a bit of a haul.

Also, I have no intention of keeping all 6 bottles I currently covet-I just bought them knowing *somebody* might want to shore up their own stocks.
Let the bloodbath bidding commence.  ;)

For someone who doesn't even drink whiskey, I sure have a lot of it.  Golly. ;D

I found one bottle at my co-worker's liquor store. He said they bought some in 2007 and it didn't sell very well. The last bottle they have is from that purchase. He's checking with their distributors for more.

The word from National Beverage here in Florida (and therefore the southern district) is that the warehouses are empty of it.  Any they have left is sitting on shelves at a store.

We put in a recount request (and last ditch effort), but its not looking good.  Sorry guys.

I'm on the board for a local community theater (Little Canada). We're planning on having a fundraiser in October with a silent auction. If I put my bottle of Amber up for auction, would you guys come to bid on it?
Title: Re: Amber
Post by: winterland on July 13, 2009, 04:44:09 PM
I haven't tried Amber but it sounds like something I would like.
If anyone finds any locally in the Twin Cities area let me know as I will take a bottle and would pick it up, be forever grateful etc.
The auction sounds like something I would bid on as long as the price wasn't out of hand. Looks like it sold in the $35.00 range.

Funny how when something is not available anymore everybody wants it.

Looking at getting a flask this year at MNRF, been saving my pennys. Looks like Amber would go well in the flask.

Ok I scored 2 bottles of Amber. Mmm very good stuff. Wow is it sticky. Would be geat on pancakes.

I picked up both as I figured someone here might want one. Whoever commits to it first by PM or email, it is yours for what I paid for it.
I am in the NW burbs.
Also there is 1 more bottle at a liquor store in the SW Metro. I will give info after I sell this bottle.

5 BOTTLES FOUND

Mgm Liquor Warehouse
(651) 458-3401

7240 E Pt Douglas Rd S #160
Cottage Grove, MN 55016

This place has 5 bottles of Amber for $27.99 each but if you take all 5 they will knock the price to $25.00 each!!  You MUST call ahead and speak to the owner, Laurie.  Tell her you are with the Ren folk who are looking for the Amber.  I'd buy it up and hold for everyone but it's a very long drive for me, just to buy more Amber.  Good luck!

So Winterland sets me up with a bottle, most generous.  I went to pick it up at his work where he had it in his car.  It was a hot and sunny day so I was driving my Pontiac Solstice.  For those unaware, it has no trunk (seriously, you can't get a loaf of bread in there).  I went from Winterland's to a hobby store leaving the bottle on my front seat...on a hot day...with the top up...black car, black interior, black top...Hot.

Well when I came out an hour later the paper seal on the cork was half torn from the internal pressures applied to it.  The cork was distended, I could push it in a quarter inch and it would slide back up...Oh oh!

I dropped the top, turned on the air, and placed it on the passenger floor board resting against the seat.  Almost home I tapped the brake for a merging car...I grabbed at the bottle as it tipped forward..."BOOP"!

Yep, sweet sticky scotch all over my hand, cork on the dash, open top roadster with an unsealed bottle doing 60 down the highway.   The car reeked of booze.  Wheel in one hand, scotch in the other...Just like college.  I pulled over and retrieved the cork from the drivers floor, put it in the bottle and held it between my legs.  I had nothing to wash my hand with so I licked it off thinking "Well that's stupid".  "Seriously officer, it happened just like that".

$85 Wow! plus 13.95 shipping
I never knew you could sell booze on Ebay. Looks like they get around the law by saying they are only selling the bottle not the contents. ha!

There was a bottle of Amber at the Liquor Depot in St. Louis Park. Unless Noble Dreg got it.

Does anyone else cut the Amber?
I bought a bottle of Naked Grouse Scotch which was suggested at a liquor store in Golden Valley. Being test marketed in Minneapolis. Very nice price and I thought it was better than The Glenlivet 10 year that preceded it in my booze cabinet.

I mixed about 1/2 and 1/2 as straight Amber needs a little more kick to me. Very nice now.

Just a mention about selling alcohol on ebay; don't.  If they catch you, the buyer AND seller risk federal prosecution.  They can go on about that it is "just for the bottle" but that's not for the seller of buyer to decide in the end.  I've heard a lot of horror stories about what happens to people trying to sell things they shouldn't on ebay.

This seller sells booze day in and day out on Ebay. Looks like it is legit to sell discontinued booze such as Amber and other vintage years as a collectible. Once again they list as selling the bottle.

Now many of us can add another hobby to our list. Bottle collectors!

People like the person selling the Amber use the "collectible container" argument to get by the regulations.  I could see if it was a handblown or limited edition item that actually was collectible, but anyone buying the Amber, you know their going to drink it.   ::)  Just look at his list of items he's selling.  Most likely stuff that is still available some places.  Like the gift box items liquor stores have at Christmas time.  How many of these sales do you think are going to minors?   :P

Anyway, enough of that off-topic wandering....anyone bringing some along to fest?   ;D
