Anyone else suffer the Wrath of God(s)/Mother Nature Tonight?
For those of you not living in the area of denver, we just had a storm come thru. quarter sized and larger blocks of Ice (They were too large and coming down too fast to really be called hail) Literal sheets of the stuff. Every car in our parking lot with an alarm was going off. I saw at least two windshields shatter from the impact while standing in the (relative) protective enclosure of my porch. The trees were almost fully denuded. After the barrage stopped, I measured 2 inchs of hail in the parking lot, and 2 FEET of hail piled up under the drain spout and against the building. Hail stones punched through the roof into the upper crawlspaces. Lightning lit the sky from horizon to horizon. One of the stones blown by the wind zipped into the enclosure of my porch and caught me a blow on the hand. Holy Mother that hurt! it also reminded me that I am not, in fact, invulnerable. I went back inside, held my dog to keep him calm, and listened to the storm do a tango on my roof.
And here is the truly scary part for me. I'd gotten home only minutes before from a gathering with friends. It hadn't even begun to rain when I went inside, and was in the process of getting my dog ready for a long evening walk when the sky opened up and dumped on us. We walk a lonely open route to the west of where I live, where its pretty much nothing but open fields, the occasional pond, and no cover to speak off for about 3/4 of a mile. I frankly don't think we would have survived the storm had it held off a few minutes more.
Reports from around the area have a tornado touching down less than 10 miles away in Englewood and winds in the surrounding area of up to 60 miles an hour. Windows were blown out by hail stones moving at a 45% angle to the ground, and trees torn apart. I have seen some hellish weather in my years, but this may well have been the worst hail storm I have ever witnessed first hand.
I heard reports that there was a funnel or possibly a tornado that came down over Perry Park, uncomfortably close to the faire site I think. I don't believe it was confirmed though.
Thankfully I was just watching on the news all the destruction coming down. Here in Greeley we just got heavy rain and some serious thunder and lightning. The power flickered a few times but never went out and we never had any hail either. Dodged a bullet.
Heavy rain, winds and some hail in Loveland, but all in all reminded me of a good Irish or Scottish Morn.
I turned the radio on at about 10 when it started in loveland as I have a since of tornado's. I guess it is from all my years farming in eastern Colorado and making a run to the root celler a couple times from June to July. I've been in the middle of 3 and they are one of the things that scare me most in life, yet facinate me. I dream of them often
In Castle Rock, the rain was so thick it looked almost like a sheet of lace outside our window, and the lightning was so intense that at 11:30 at night we were getting flashes of darkness during the storm.

Couple of Rogueys and Dragony-Fun people got it bad... Platt's still getting damage reports...
One Roguey has wonderful air-conditioning now (No more windows).... hasn't been able to check car cuz a tree decided to guard the door.
Heard of a possible new convertible car, but have to check on validity. :P
I got woken up in the middle of the night by a thunderclap that could have been next door. It has to be loud to wake me. Less than a second later one of my puppies was coming over for me to protect her. I stayed up watching the sky go off like a strobe light until I needed to pass out.
Jeeze! I knew that the weather was being too nice lately
I was sound asleep when the darn tornado warning siren went off. We have one thoughtfully placed about 100 feet from our house. Then, the dogs went nuts. I was a tired person at work today.
Glad to hear you are OK, Radu. The reports on the radio this morning were bad for that side of town.
I was in Englewood at my best friends house. We watched the storm roll in whilst sitting on her deck and we finally decided to go in when it started raining in sheets. We didn't see any hail, and it passed rather quickly. We did here the tornado siren go off for like 4 seconds, then it went off again and didn't come back on. The sky was really funky looking, until there was a bolt of lightning, you couldn't really tell if it was just dark or cloudy. But when the sky lit up, it was so cool to see all the clouds and the different patterns that were made by the light. It was awesome.
Sorry to hear about all of the damage that people have suffered. Thank goodness for insurance. Hopefully you all are covered. :D
KOA reported TONIGHT (7/21) that Larkspur was hit with 'ping-pong ball' sized hail. I have no more detailed reports (and came here to see if there were any), but I hope the damage to the Site was either non-existent or minimal.
I just don't know, yet, though.

We had about 10 minutes of quarter and marble sized hail. I was worried that it would break my skylight and flood inside It was so loud, sounded like hundreds of people beating the windows and skylight and roof with hammers. My puppy was terrified and wouldn't come out of her kennel until it stopped. I got a broken mirror on my car and hail damage all over the top of it, but no broken window or anything. There was still hail piled up in the corner of the neighbor's deck at 9:30 the next morning.

From what I heard from friends staying onsite - it was bad enough they did worry about structures coming apart, but as far as they know, there was no major major damage they knew of. They had heard about the funnel cloud-possible tornado, but hadn't heard confirmation.

Mistress Charlotte ... a friend checked on your faire home ... it has a very muddy floor, but he thinks that's it. He couldn't tell if anything had gotten knocked down, but he didn't think anything looked broken.

There were parts of the festival where the ground was nothing but green from all the pine needles and tree leaves that have been shed. Pine cones litter the ground EVERYWHERE. Some of the shops have several inches of mud and dirt that they have to shovel off their floors.
I passed a pile of hail that was at least a foot high. It is amazing what a rain storm can do sometimes!

Yeah, our booth gets a bit of mud, but it's not as bad as it used to be since they reworked the area out front where the water used to flood.
I am interested to see if our canopy is still standing.
