Title: Weapon Policy?
Post by: sonofslaanesh on August 06, 2009, 04:31:20 AM
I'm from the STL area and am looking to going to KC for the first time. I peace tie my daggers for the faire here, but I've no idea what the protocol for KC is, and I can't find the weapon policy on the site anywhere. Would anyone be so kind as to enlighten me? Are weapons just plain restricted? If they are I'll just leave them at home and save the space.

I sent them an email yesterday and this was the response from the general manager

"No, we do not allow peace tied weapons unless one is a member of the cast. Thanks for checking"

Thanks much, it'll save me some trouble I'll wager.

I'm glad I found this forum.  I was wondering the same thing.  We're planning our first trip to KC and I had been trying to figure out their one line "no weapons." policy statement.  I'm assuming that this even applies to non-functional replicas.  Since they serve alcohol, perhaps it's a good idea to keep the sharp and pointy things away, although I must ask - What self-respecting 10th-17th century gentleman would go out in public without a sword, or at least a dagger or main gauche?

I was also wondering.  Not a small belt knife?  I can understand a sword or a francisca, but a belt knife should be ok, shouldn't it?

i never have fully understood this. most faires allow you to have them provided they are peace tied. it would make more sense to me if they didnt sell weapons there. they do sell swords and knives. and have many games of skill where you can throw knives. oh well, i respect my faire!! whatever they choose.

it is weird, having games of people hurling live blades despite an unusal weapons policy. as far as purchasing weapons at the faire, my understanding is that they have to be held be the vendor and picked up on your way out.

I agree, the policy is strange, especially considering the games. And I'm with you Sullivan, a gentleman needs not only a means of defense but also a symbol of his status (though, strictly speaking, I'm all fantasy).

No weapons means just that.. no knives of any sort... I agree it maks no sense, then again KC does a lot of things that don't make sense to me.

Could they include the wooden swords in this policy?  My shins would much appreciate it.

I fully repsect the weapons policy.  Given the litigious climate in which we live I can't say as I blame them.  I can only imagine the insurance coverage that they have to carry.

I'm thinking of placing a couple of my wooden flutes in my sword & dagger frogs in place of the weapons.  :P

So um dude, borrowing my cousins account to ask this. She has a set of rubber tipped arrows and a bow I wanted to carry. She told me no weapons. But I really wanted to carry then so I umm wanted to ask what the answer was.

Your best bet for a definitive answer would be to email KCRF and ask.  My guess will be no, unless the bow is an obvious toy - then maybe not anyway.  :-\

We did see some plastic 'kids' weapons, but they were being carried by kids.

The idea of not having something swinging at my hip to rest my hand on was unacceptable, so this was my solution today:

What they didn't realize is that my playing can do far more damage to an unsuspecting listener than any sharp pointy thing...  ::)

I had a similar issue while on our visit - nothing to rest my hand on and the flute I play is just a little too small to function in kmy sword's place  :(

There was an incident a looong time ago, where some loony grabbed someone's weapon and hit them over the head with it.

It is my understanding, that the insurance company will not insure kcrf, unless they have that "no weapons" thing.
