I know some of you are veterans; but how many of are veterans?
And how many will be marching on Monday?
Guess I am out of the loop on this one - just any veteran can go march?
Yes, any veteran can march. Actually I don't know about foreign vets. Does having been in the Russian army allow you to march or just American military?
Any person who has served in the military can march with the veterans on Memorial Day. It is not limited to American military. They will make an announcement from the parapet on Monday morning, but basically all that you do is show up at the Scot's Cottage early (I'm not sure of the time, but Lilaney may know), get your yellow sash, and put your name in for the drawing. They draw names from each branch to determine who carries that branch's flag, and then they draw names to see who will carry the large American flag.
The vets line up at the cottage and march across to the parade keep, then march the parade.
I believe that we had well over 100 veterans last year from any number of countries and of widely varying ages.
Please march with our veterans. We are proud to honour all of you on this special day.
Veterans can come by just about any time after open cannon. In the past we've had people pick up their yellow sash as early as 10:30. We've had a number of foriegn veterans including one year a wonderful gentleman wearing his Rhodesia Army Desert Uniform from WWII.
Well all right that...how I never knew about this in all my time at scaby baffles me, but thank you for fixing my error!
Likely have two more marching (provided I can walk of course....that rum does tend to make a pirate tardy!
I will definitely be marching with the vets.
If you know any vets at the faire on Monday make sure and tell them to get a yellow sash. The Scottish regiment will be giving them out. Usually at the gate and at the cottage. Vets also make sure and put your name in the drawing for carrying the flags!
Also tell any vet in one of the motor carts or chairs if they are up to it that they are also welcome to do the parade too
Mast Hugger Kate and I will be in the Parade
In years past, the Scottish Brigade has planted members just inside the gates to ask all who enter if they are present or past military so we can sash them and honor them and Parade them.
One of the nicest and most admirable things our Faire does in my opinion...
I will be marching with the vets as well!
Huzzah to all the veterans who came out Monday! It always makes me cry when you come under our sword arch. Thank you for all you have done and are doing for our country!!
First time we (wife and I) ever marched in that, and I assure you there was some misty eyes inside the parade as well! Coming under that sowrd arch was rather touching, as were all the faces of folks saluting, waving, etc. .... just amazing! It was a true honor to march in that parade, much more so then some others that I've been 'forcibly invited to'.
Words are failing me now on this subject, but it was great!
I know how you feel, marching with the rest of my brothers & sisters in arms has a way of making me teary eyed, especially at the end when we do a toast and prayer.
BTW did anyone get a video of the parade from this year?

I do have video (Hi8) that my wife took (cos I was marching & drumming), but have not looked at it yet. It may take a while for me to get to Monday's parade, as I have about 2 1/2 hours of video before that, and I'll have to do some editing on the parade bit before uploading it.
