Title: Thinking of paying a vist.
Post by: Lady Ellie on October 13, 2009, 09:41:07 PM
but need a little info first.

Such as when does the faire usually end and start ?
What are the ticket prices ?
And most of all how's the weather up there ? (we'd be coming from Texas)

Any help would be great.

Thank you,

Ellie

Hi Lady Ellie

CoRF starts the 2nd weekend in June and runs to the 1st weekend in August. If you google Colorado Renaissance Festival it will give the exact dates.

Standard ticket prices for this year where $17.95 per adult. Opening weekend and sometimes the following, you can get Buy One get One free. Those coupons can be found at Wendy's restuarants in Colorado. The 2nd weekend ones are available online (don't bet on this). You can also get tickets at the local King Soopers grocery stores for $2.00 off so making each ticket $15.95 a piece.

Weather in Colorado can very. This year it rained almost every weekend. Some times hard most of the afternoon and sometimes just for an hour or so. The temps can be in the high 40's (with rain) to the low 100's. July and August are USUALLY the hottest times and June the cooler but DON'T trust this. I have even seen it snow in early June but this is rare. This year was an odd year with hail and even tornado's in the area (nothing dangerous or on farie grounds) We even had a weekend of heavy lightning that scared the heck out of those of use near it.

So be prepared for all weather types, bring sun screen as you will burn. Colorado's sun is far more intense than the Texas sun(altitude). Also wear good shoes as the faire is up hill all the way until you get to Puke and Snot then it's down hill for a short time. It will wear you out if you not used to it. Once again the altitude can get to you. You'll not find another faire like it as it is the only one in the mountains and this alone makes it a great faire. And while we had a small court this past year, they are a wonderful court.

So we hope you come and enjoy our faire. Make sure you let us all know if you make it and what days'

Hope tis helps

Thank you for the info. One more question if I may... What would be a decent place to stay ?

Now to making plans and setting funds aside.

The city of Castle Rock is a 15 minute drive to the faire site.  There's a pretty good selection of decent, well-priced hotels around that area and you should have no trouble locating a hotel.  If you go any farther north or south you'll hit Denver or Colorado Springs, respectively, with many more hotels ranging in price from there.  Depends on how much you are willing to pay and how much time you'd like to spend in driving to the site.

As Zoe said. many stay at Super 8 but I'd go to hotels.com and search for the cheap but good. There is a KOZ camp ground about 5 minutes north of the faire others stay at as well.

There is a KOZ camp ground...

Historical note- this is the last in the line starting with KOA and is very popular- you may want to make reservations early if you decide to stay there.

Lady Ellie, we could have a mini faire outside along the road if you'd like next weekend. I know it's not quite the same, but maybe if there were enough of us they would open 8 months early.

Historical note part 2 (return of historical note): The odds of a tornado hitting the faire site are extremely low, if ever, due to the mountains around it. Tornadoes need large flat surfaces (yeah Kansas!) to develop (relative vorticity, coriolis force is minimal).

The Mayans predicted that in 2012 the faire will have excellent weather.

Darn, we missed it. Those crazy Mayas- I've been to their theater!

I think all the hamsters may have gone... away... They have hamsters in Texas though, running in large hamster wheels; it's where they get their electricity.

I will have to keep a sharp eye on the hamsters then. I like my mead. Maybe catch a few to bring back and put in those plastic balls. May help with the electric bill next year. I promise not to bring any with me. Will check car before we head out.

Thanks for the offer of a mini faire but we still have a day trip to TRf coming up. I have started planning our trip already. Looking in the almanac at the weather and searching for a place to stay.

I will keep you posted when it gets closer. Thanks to everybody for the help. I'm sure I'll have other questions when it gets closer. ;)

Splendid!!  Keep us posted.  Perhaps we can arrange an RF'ers get-together to welcome you properly.

OH PLEASE DO bring your hamsters. Our hamsters at CoRF LOVE having visiting friends from out of state. But be warned... the Hamster adoption firm loves to send orphans of our faire home with people. But using them to generate electricity may be consitered hamster abuse and will bring down tough penalties from the Hamster King.

God Save the Hamster King!

Oh and watch out for that guy we call Demetrius. He is a rabble rouser and likes to cause much laugh and merth. But we still love him anyways even though we now he really uses hamster for what he calls his Yakitori Chicken. it's really Yakitori Hamster, but he will deny it.

I just have to say that I definitely thought you wrote "meth."  I need to stop reading the boards immediately after I wake up....

I'm taking advantage of my senior-in-college-kind-of status as long as I can until I have to get a "real" job.  ;)
