Title: San Antonio NYE Party/Gathering!
Post by: *Teach* on November 09, 2009, 08:23:31 AM
I claims it! (Sorry Lish.)
One and all are invited to our annual New Years Eve party at our NEW HOUSE this year
You don't have to be a member of Phoenix Risen to attend, just need to want to have a blast hanging out with a buncha rennie types.
This being our 3rd year hosting it I am declaring tradition (Sorry Killian)
If you are interested in attending, send me an email at mr-teach@att.net so we can have a semi-accurate count.
As far as sleeping space goes, we have more than in previous years but space is still limited so let us know as soon as possible if you can.
More details will be posted later. Just wanted to stake my claim early

[edit] My Lovely Lady asked me to add one addendum. Because this is a new house, please plan on 1. not spilling or at least being very very cautious and 2. no shoes on the new carpet (yet)[/edit]

*Much rum will be consumed this year in celebration!*

Update/Bump
It has been declared that in order to get our new place broken in right our annual NYE party this year should have a theme and so let me welcome you all to our
White Trash Bash!
I will be making jambalaya (2 batches, spicy and wimpy)
If you want to bring a dish feel free to do so although it is not expected.
If you bring swill in a can (AKA cheap beer) make sure it is part of your white trash costume or you will be made fun of.

*Rum is never made fun of... except that stuff that Z tries to pretend is rum*

You ain't from around these parts are ya?
Jambalaya is a Cajun dish that is downright yum!
A quick look on wikipedia gave me this basic answer for ya:
Cajun jambalaya (no tomatoes).
The meat is browned in a cast-iron pot. The bits of meat that stick to the bottom of the pot are what give a Cajun jambalaya its brown color. A little vegetable oil is added if there is not enough fat in the pot. The trinity (of onions, celery, and green bell pepper) is added and sautéed until soft. Stock and seasonings are added in the next step, and then the meats are returned to the pot. This mixture is then simmered, covered, for at least one hour. Lastly, the mixture is brought to a boil and rice is added to the pot. It is then covered and left to simmer over very low heat for at least 1/2 hour without stirring. The dish is finished when the rice has cooked.

That isn't exactly how I make mine but it is darn close

*Rum is added by taking a shot between bites*

I thought it was the roux that gave it the proper color?

Not in Jambalaya, or at least not in mine lol

*wonder if rum could be a substitute for stock...*

Well...
I do have one fairly large pot...
I suppose it is conceivable...
Not commonly done, but possible

*when rum is involved it tends to become even more possible*
