Well, since I'm from Waxahachie... my first time was opening year in 1981 (i was in 6th grade and they gave us free tickets). I remember there was alot of open space back then, when you walked through the gate it was open field all the way to the Crown Theater stage, though there was a maypole somewhere in between the two... i have a picture somewhere of my in the old stockades... one thing i miss is the old "Hobbit Holes"... but in Texas it's not really a good idea, they're more like "Snake Dens"

I don't remember really going back till 1985 & 86 when I worked there... I had a little drink cart by the "Whimsey Stage" on the Pecan Grove side of the Faire at first that was alot of fun ( I seem to remember having a crush on the little tight-rope walking clown that performed there )... after the drink cart I worked in various food booths in the Royal Kitchens... We had quite an accident back then... my boss (can't remember his name) was going to light the big cooker that roasted the Turkey legs and stuff... well, I guess he had let the gas build up before he lit it, because I just heard a BOOM and someone scream... I opened the door and see him running around on fire... luckily someone was running over to help and they got him out and to the hospital. I saw him the last weekend of the faire, no eye brows, both arms bandaged up and a beer in each hand. I also worked with the Knights (Kelly Bailey, Roy Cox & Chris Poor) after I left the Kitchens (I didn't get paid but it was alot more fun... haha) I used to hold the lances when they were jousting... I also remember they used BIGGER horses back then (the Percheron horses) lots of good memories, in fact I wanted to run off and travel with the faire... instead we moved to Dallas and I didn't go back to the faire until...

2007... yes 22 years later! and it all started because (just like in 6th grade) I got some free tickets for making all the big maps of the faire you see posted around... anyway I went and it was like magic... I was in love with the faire all over again... went 3 times... even traveled down to TRF for a weekend... and I plan on being at Scarby every chance I get this coming year !!!

Thanks for listening (or reading) to me ramble

I visited last year for the first time. A beautiful faire full of enchantment. Truely I do believe the fae and other magical folk reside there.

April of 2007, the week after the infamous snow, and just about froze my wings off!!  But we fell in love with grounds and the magic of the faire.
Got faerie dust?

2003, I think.  I clearly remember how empty it was on the side with the chessboard.  Was the chessboard even there at the time?  I don't remember, but I remember how empty and sunny it was over there.  I always felt the addition of the stage for Cast in Bronze was a really good addition, helped make the faire feel balanced.

Wow...look at me then  :)

I found a pic on someones site of a view from close to the front gate... you can see the maypole then an empty field all the way down to the Crown Theater... I think this was around 1983

I asked the wife if she remembered the first time we went she thought it was 1987 or there about.  We use to go once a season as mundanes did so for years.  I remember the first year we tried grab 2001 I lose 80 pounds the year before and as trying new clothing and activities to go with my new wieght.  Had so much fun in grab we came back a second weekend and the next year bought season passes I think they were called royal passes then.

We also remember when there was nothing between the ross garden and the Crown stage, the meadow was used for the sheep dog show, the chess board was the mud pit, there was only eagles crossing, so many changes over the years and decades.  Mostly for the good but I do miss the sheep dogs and having a big open area to see them work the sheep in.  Can't say I think much of the bundge jumpy thing or the tower clime.

My first time was in 2002 - not sure what theme weekend it was, but I remember a (small) group of Barbarians attempting to 'kidnap' myself and my friend.  lol  It was a good time. :)  We jumped in garb from the start (rented, of course).

I still have a card they used back then... when you would do good at one of the games (archery, jacobs ladder, etc.) they would give you a "ONE FREE KISS" card that you could redeem from ant participating "Kissing Wench"... ahhh those were the good old days

My first time at Scarborough was near the end of the 2007, prior to knowing anyone on the boards, prior to knowing anyone really. Going to faire the first few times was so much different when you're simply a playtron who attends to see shows. Now, every time is a reunion of friends and family alike, and I doubt I caught but just a tad bit of Iris n' Rose last season.
Heard about faire and convinced my Mom to make me a costume, which was so well made but I don't think I would ever wear it again after wearing it later on in Colorado that summer.

Ah...here's the photo. How young and unknowing do I look...that was before Blue, Jess, and Guinny got a hold of me.

And Doublet, they still have One Free Kiss cards, moreso at TRF than Scarby, but, they're more used as ways to flirt and hopefully gain a kiss from a willing lass around faire.
Still Meggers, just a little more grown up now. :)

YEAH, maybe I can redeem mine after 20 something years!.. haha
