Just want to let everyone know that the archery tournament will continue this year.  Several of us meet yesterday and worked out the details.  The tournament will be named in honour of Kevin Zody know to everyone at Scraby as Master Liam Hunter, Master Huntsman for the Baron of Scarborough.  The basics will be the same as Kevin used the past couple of seasons we do have a new forty foot range which will allow us to handle up to four shooters at a time.  As in the past the tournament will be held at five on Sundays and is open to everyone.

Don't tell the Archduchess Sabine, but I hope to skip Court Dance one afternoon and bring my Yew longbow over and have a shot or two. ;)

I am glad something is being done to memorialize him.  That is an excellent idea.

That brings to mind a question I've had for a while, I just haven't gotten around to asking...  are there any provisions for cross bow shooting?  I don't mean necessarily in the same tournament (it might dilute the spirit of the event).  The wife would love to bring out her baby to play  ;)

Not at this point.  Not sure what changes would be required at the range to allow crossbows.  For longbows we have to serious limit the poundage so as not to damage the backstop, limit the chance of bounce back etc.   Might be something to suggest to the management have a crossbow range set up it might be a good draw not only for playtrons but for regular patrons too.

Do we need to bring our own longbows and shafts, or are there "loaners"?

I could do a 60 lb draw (well at least could 40 years ago <grin>).

SirRichardBear

You don't have to bring or use your own bow house bows are allowed in tournament.  You are welcome to bring your own bow as long as its under a 50 pound draw most shooters use 25 to 45 pound bows.  Arrows have to be cleared with the range master wooden with traditional fetching and brass bullet tips.  Mostly shooters use their own bows and tournament arrows.

I hope to be able to publish the rules for the tournament in the next couple of days.

Very glad to see that the tournament will continue in Master Liam's honor.  I shall attempt to make it out this Sunday, though I expect to make a fool of myself.  It's been quite a while since I shot last.

Oh well, that leaves my Great Yew Bow out!  >:(

Really wish it didn't have to be on Sunday afternoon.  Except for opening and closing, I have to leave early on Sundays for that long trip back to Houston.  I understand the timing is actually exactly period, and that it wonderful.  As long as I am not dropping from the heat, I will join you again closing weekend.

What time has the tournament been ending usually? I usually help with the body carry, so am trying to see if the timing will work for that or not.  Thanks!

SirRichardBear

We normally end little before six.  I often watch the King Henry and Queen Anna walk to the joust from the range and will walk over to pick up the Royal Highlanders after the joust is over.
