Ok then, I have a lovely friend who is ever so shy and while I've been to Scarby three times, soon to be four on April 26th, I don't know how many available gents there are out there (I do know there are many handsome gents though). She's so shy, but just adorable. And as one of the mother hens in our group, I must meddle :P Can anyone give me idea of what to expect? Have any of you met your sweeties at the faire?

Zaubon

Where else can one meet sweeties that are not completely hung up with society's version of success?
Some of us have shyness issues too though.

CaptainsWoman

Indeed! That's why I'd rather she meet someone at Scarborough, so many gentlemen. Such a romantic bunch too, which is what most ladies are looking for. I'm going to prod her a tad though. As a fellow wallflower, I know how important it is to be prodded now and again. So if any of you gents 19-23 see a short brunnette marching up to you with a blushing blonde being dragged behind, don't be surprised. I'm open to any suggestions though!

Bring her by the cottage before or after parade most of the lads are already taken but we're a friendly bunch of scots and will help pull her out of her shyness.

Meeting a sweetie at faire would be very romantic! AHHHH!  There sure are a lot of handsome lads there!   Much luck to your friend!

I started dating my husband out at Scarby. It was all very nice and romantic. However once the season was over, everything changed. Meeting sweethearts at faire is all well and good, but it doesn't really give you a true look at how someone is the entire time. I personally would rather start a long term relationship outside of faire, where they are not putting on a persona. If you and your friend just want to flirt and have a little short term romance, by all means, faire is the place. If you are looking for something a little more serious, just be prepared for the illusion to fade. The gentleman may still be a wonderful person, but they may not be as romantic, attentive, or spontaneous when real life sinks in again.

I met the Lovely Lady Trinn at TRF.
Technically we met through these very forums, but our first in person meeting was at TRF. We fell madly, passionately and deeply in forever Love. One year and a day later we were married a few yards from the place we met. Nothing has ever made me happier...

*she even liked that my kisses taste like rum!*

I met Susan (Archduchess Sabine at Scarborough) at the Ontario Renaissance Festival.  As soon as our eyes met, it was, "Oh well, I'm struck!" and we have hardly spent a night apart since.  That was during rehearsals when we had plenty of opportunities to be 'out-of-character' with each other.

Might I recommend you arrange to meet them in the parking lot or elsewhere after Faire so you can get an idea of who they are (and how much they may drink) out-of-character.

I agree especially on the drinking thing... That is for both sides of the fence as well because I've met some that drink just as much while doing faire related things as they do outside of faire related things (with the exception of extreme situations, though with me I can put them away in faire related situations however when I'm at home I am having to hand out stuff because it will never get drank at the house.

I will be in the parking lot early! And yes- I do drink- but not to excess, ever! Awaiting Sir Renaissance MR Right! LOL! Happy renvy to all those who have found true love!
I had it once! I met Lord A fighting the Revolutionary war! That only lasted 30 years! Sigh.
It is a wizard thing- all this time travel!

I actually stalker...er....photographed Lady Rae at TRF.She caught my eye with her beauty, grace and that red hair. ;D

I admired her from afar secretly wishing I had the nerve to walk up and say hello, but alas I was EXTREMELY shy and could never walk up to a total stranger and introduce myself..

One day I'm on MySpace and lo and behold I see her profile come up as someone I might know. So I figure what the heck, if she accepts me as a friend, I'll have one more ren friend on my friends list and may even become friends in real life.

So I wait and wait... She accepts my friend request YAY!! She sends me a message asking if we know each other.. No I tell her...and my heart sinks. What if she thinks I'm some sort of psycho, stalking mass murderer (acquitted thank you very much lol) and just deletes me? The seconds feel like hours and she writes me back telling me she went to high school in the same city I live in and the only reason she added me was she thought maybe we went to school together. I can see this is going south in a hurry..

We continue to talk and make arrangements to go to CTRF together and meet up with some friends of hers.

The drive down to Austin is filled with anxiety, apprehension, fear and a lot of other emotions all at the same time. I get to Rae's house and she opens the door in pajamas and wrapped in a blanket and I was hooked. Did I mention is was about 3am in the morning? lol...

We drive down to CTRF with Grim and Chandra and *gasp* her friends like me.. And OMG she has a LOT of friends.. I don't think theres anyone who goes to faire within a 3 state area that Rae doesn't know.. :D

I had hoped to find someone who would enrich my life and who would make me complete.. I have found that woman and she has my heart and soul. I don't know if you could say we met at faire (although thats where I first saw her and was smitten by her) but I'm so thankful she was at faire for me to find and fall head over heels in love with.
