Unemployment Seems To Linger

Element of Air

Yesterday as I was climbing into bed and snuggling up to Chris for our first good nights sleep since Thursday I asked him if he worked tomorrow (Tuesday). He had not worked this Monday which is not what usually happens. He told me that he actually got a call Yesterday afternoon when I was at work that the company no longer had the money to pay him or our room mate for their positions.

I knew that they both worked for Scott's Miracle Grow company stalking Home Depot with their products and that is was simple a seasonal job. We were also told that they would be contracted through till June. Chris has been jobless since the beginning of November of 2008 until he was able to find a job with this horrible economy in April 2009 for Scott's. We had a room mate move into our home to assist with rent and bills because I have not been able to pay my mortgage for about 3-4 months (My Parents own the home and I pay them the mortgage). I work at a library and it pays just enough a month for us to cover utilities and may a $50.00 Grocery trip once a month. I am once again the only one employed as of today.

I kind of feel like crying yet I knew this was going to happen. I used to stress myself to death about this but I am so exhausted from all of it that I can not even care. I think I have accepted that fact that I am going to loose my home and have to move back to California and live with my parents. My mother and father have already needed to take in my 34 year old sister and my 26 year old cousin who has a two year old baby girl.

If I move back to California, my room that I have lived in since birth has been given to my cousin and her baby and my sister sleeps in the only other bed room that has bot been converted into some other purpose room (Sewing room, Den, etc.). If Chris and I move back, we would have to stay in the motor home in the back yard. I would also have to get rid of my three beautiful dogs and our cat.

I really don't know what to do right now. He has been putting in applications at other jobs through out his employment with Scott's but it took him 5 months to get the Scott's job. I have already been offered financial assistance back in november and january by two wonderful friends and it helped us get through without falling 100% into the red. However I wanted to start slowly paying them back and now, we wont even have enough money for food.

I just ask, that if anyone hears of anything in Austin, Texas please send the job listings my way, we are searching for work as best we can but anything helps. If you could keep Chris and Me in your thoughts and prayers during this time that we are once again needing to endure, I know we can somehow make it work with the support of our friends and families.

E-o-A My thoughts are with you. I fully know the feeling as Toki has not worked in 2 weeks and when he did work it was not much. I think in the past 3 months he has worked maybe 120 hours. It sure makes it tough as I am making the rent, car payment, utilities and groceries.

Last Thursday I did go into the bedroom and cry. I talked to my mom but she was no help and was rather mean about the situation. While Toki still has a job and can start claiming un-employment as job attached, the little he will get from that will help, but not by much.

Iwish you both the best and a HUGE huge for support. hang in there your thoughts are with you both.

Have you checked Craigslist listings? If not for his medical problems, I found my friend a workable job through there.

Element of Air

Yes, we are looking through every site we can. The job he was just let off from was found using CraigsList.

Unfortunately, he has a very low immune system and he has Chronic Asthma and needs to be tested for allergies and see a doctor every month to stay alive. he just got sick again and is coughing so hard from being out of breath that his ribs are popping in and out of place.

I don't know what to do anymore. It seems as though my mind and body want to give up and just lay here but my heart and will keep dragging the dead weight of the rest of me around trying to get me through this. It is one of the most self defeating feelings and to see this happen to him again, to us again, over and over. *sigh*

Thank you so much for your encouragement. It does mean a lot and I think that is what is helping me get through this. If anyone has any jobs that they think might be able to use Chris in the Austin, TX area, please let me know.

Chris got a job! It is a part time security position for Night Clubs! He is getting his commission and have been told that he can also have a full time day security position with another company as long as it does not interfere with the night job.

Thank you so much to all who have kept Chris and Me in their thoughts and prayers. It seems that things have worked. I am very happy!

Great News!   :D

I know you and Chris have worked sales at TRF, and you mentioned that he was working sales until recently ... is sales what he'd prefer to be doing, rather than security?

In his day time mundane job he would rather be doing security or something allowing him to be up and having fun and dealing with people and also gives him the freedom to do what he wants when he wants.

At Fair, we like to work with our friends in their booths to allow us to grow with them, get a free pass in and be paid to be there. At TRF he works and I play, but at Scarby we are the managers of a shop that we are inheriting.

Well then, it's really great that he was so quickly able to find a Security Job like that!   ;D

I hope they're flexible on scheduling, so he can take off to attend TRF.

What's the name of the shop you manage at Scarby?
