I read about the prospect of rain on the April 24-25 weekend.  I don't think I've ever been to a RenDezvous where it hasn't poured at least 1 day -  but 1 day is enough!

Never been to Texas, but I'm wondering, what kind of "rain" do you actually get?  Joking aside (I'm imagining, "it rains rum, of course"), are we talking torrential downpour, horrendous thunder & lightening, a gentle misting, mud puddles that suck your boots off, and the gamut in between?

Last year was the wettest year in a loooooong time. Generally...if it does rain... it's light and doesn't last long. I know there was some talk of putting in some cobblestone sidewalks because a few of the merchants in the low areas lost customers after the rain.

I've been to Scarby a LOT and it rarely ruins the weekend. We seem to find a covered area around a pub and forget all about the rain. Long dresses will get dirty but the weekend isn't lost because of rain.

As for mud...they are very good at getting saw dust down immediately after the rain and the ground is very hard so there are only a few spots that create actual mud... some spots get very slippery but not deep mud.

Oh and speaking of mud. You ladies need to know our mud has a lot of clay in it. The mud will come out cotton skirts and pants but it's much harder to get out of the fancier dresses made of poly-blends.
Save the Earth (it's the only one with beer)!

I see voting is a little light (63 seems a small number so far).

I put a sticky under the Scarby forum about the voting with the link to the voting thread. Maybe that will help with the voter turnout.

A fine idea. Matters not which day, we will be there. Thanks....

Last year was indeed the wettest year in many moons. I brought home Scarby mud on me boots every weekend. This shall be a wonderful event. I would rally for opening weekend as my birthday occurs then, but it is cold more often than not on opening (although last year was perfect) and wouldn't want to tempt winter to hang on for one last weekend and don't care to celebrate any more birthdays (growing too many of them). I just look forward to seeing everyone from around the country. Those of us who live near Scarby are so proud to have everyone returning to our magical village.

And a few years before that we when through two years of drought with one 15 minute cloud burst the entire season.... followed up an opening day of snow the next year. As mentioned - rain is completely unpredictable in north Texas. Your best best is to wager on the temps. If you want cooler - go April - hotter go May - Memorial Day is pretty much a shoo-in that it will be upper 90's at least.

Acutally, it's hard to get out of cotton too.  I've "authenticated" more than one chemise from the mud  :)

Look at the weather for Waxahachie, or Ellis County.
If they say 40% chance of showers in AM or PM.
That is the time we'll get a mild cloud burst for a few hours.

This last season, it rained one day every weekend.
It was not uncomfortable, merely inconvenient for expedient travel.

According to the elders (boothies and cast) we get a year like that every 8 years or so.
So, truly I believe next year will be a standard year of...

You'll need cloaks in the AM for the first two or three weekends.
You'll need lighter clothes end of April, all of May.
Hydration at all times, as well as SPF.

Weather, especially in North Texas is fractious at the best of times.
We just go along with it and make sure our costumes are as wash and wear as possible.

I have REALLY been out of the loop...didn't know till today that Scarby will be the site of the 2010 RENdezvous!  WOW!  Huzzah!

Just an update:

Lilaney and I have been continuing to look at the idea of guided tours of our Village.  We met a couple of weeks ago and put down some ideas.  Right now we're looking at doing these in-character and will be incorporating a lot of the stories that give our SAPA folks a sense that it really IS a village.  This will include talking about people who have populated our village in the past (characters as played by former cast members), important sites within the village (the Wishing Tree, Eagle Crossing, the Peasant's Free Bridge, etc.), and stories from the village's history such as Sir Edsel.

We're pulling together a rough schedule with segments of about 20-30 minutes each that will allow people to jump in and leave the tour at will.

If anyone has any suggestions as to stops on the tour or stories you might remember, please feel free to send them to us via PM so that we can start sifting through and setting up the final schedule / pulling together notes for our tours.

Thanks, all! :)

The 24th was one of the weekends I was hoping for. Should be perfect. I have my FOF passes and the calendar is ticking away toward opening gate.

Might be a nice touch to have our History, Customs and Manners lecture do the history of Scarborough and Scarborough Faire for RenDexvous weekend.   It was one of my favorite lectures from last year.
