Hit a deer last night...

...on the way home from TRF 

He popped up out of nowhere on a back road north of Bellville, leaping out of some amazingly tall roadside grass. Thank Diety for a bright nearly-full moon; because I was able to see him coming, I was standing on the brakes and had nearly stopped instead of hitting him at speed. He seemed fine, though it was a bit dark to tell for sure. There was no blood on car or pavement, and he shook himself off and staggered into the tree line while we were inspecting my car.

My front corner is as demolished as it can be without rendering my poor car undriveable. The passenger side headlight assembly is just...gone. Also, the hood is all squinched up and there's some other metal damage.

Neither I nor Durgrim was hurt, thank goodness. I drove the car about ten more miles before I started shaking and whimpering  , then he insisted I pull over and let him drive....and as soon as my tush hit the passenger seat I had a total hysterical shrieking weepy meltdown 

I'm still feeling a bit 'floaty' today, so any hugs are greatly appreciated. Neither of us was hurt and the car is still driveable even though it looks bad, I just feel like such a ninny for having my first hysterical freakout at the age of 34.

It is okay to cry.

You are not  the first one  to hit a deer. I live out in the country, and deer run wild  around  here.   Just about anyone you talk  to around  here on this  street has hit a deer.
 November is notorious  for being the month  with deer  related  accidents.

The good  thing is  that  you   were  not hurt or  killed,    Cars  can be  replaced, you can't  !  Hugs  !!!!!

Sonata don't ever feel afraid to cry. For crying is a natural part of life my dear. I'm just glad that you and your other half were not seriously hurt or anything cause like was already said "Cars can be replaced but you can't."

*hugs* to everyone, and thank you so much I feel somewhat better today, though still fairly stressed. The car still goes when I step on the gas and stops when I step on the brake, and all *my* parts are still attached and in working order, so it could definitely be worse!

So glad to hear that neither of you were hurt. Big hugs your way. Don't ever feel like a ninny or anything like that for crying. It's the body's way of dealing with an overload of stress and yes that was an overload of stress both physical and emotional.

Sweet Sonata, I've been there. Thou that just happened to you mine happened back in O5 in Mckinney TX. Yes, Mckinney still has country road and of course no lights on them. According to the two people in the car a bit behind me (a fireman and his wife, a nurse, heading home) I slammed on my breaks to avoid hitting a deer. My Jeep flipped over four times. I was taken by care flight to a Dallas hospital. I was in a coma for a month. Car was totaled. I loved my jeep. Now, going to TRF I'll drive til Magnolia exit and let someone else drive the rest of the way. Roads are dark and I freak out. I have no memory of the accident. Thus far I'm trying to get a handle on my hyperventilation and freaking out on dark roads. But I will not stop going to TRF. 

Glad to hear that only the car was damage it can be replace but not you.

I won't stop going to TRF altogether (though I may have to assign the backroad driving to Durgrim for awhile), though this may have put the kibosh on my plan to go back for next-to-final weekend this year. Just got the estimate on the damage this morning, and at around $1700.00 I don't see another trip to faire in my future this season
