this is hard for me to ask as it's not a request of prayers for healing but more for prayers that he passes quietly and peacefully in his sleep. i know this sounds wrong but sadly he is very sick and today told me that he is ready to give up  :'(.
my dad has emphysema/COPD, diabetes, and a pacemaker. he's had been on O2 for over 10 years now and slowly but steadily his breathing has gotten worse. he's had his bouts with pneumonia from time to time and everyone has been very careful around him (not visiting when they are sick and such).
this past september, right after my wedding (sept. 26th), he started to feel like he was getting sick. it wasn't until the first sunday in october that he asked my mom to take him to the hospital. that was when the pneumonia was discovered. he was in the hospital for about 2 weeks. after that they sent him to a rehab nursing home for about a month... maybe a bit longer than that. he came home but his health has been up and down. some days he was sounding real good and other days he didn't. now today he tells me he's ready to give up... he's not really eating/has no appetite, he's hurting, he can't regulate his body temp very well (he's either too hot or too cold), he's not able to really walk, talking is a great effort for him.
for somewhat selfish reasons i hope he can hold out (daddy's aren't supposed to leave :'(). my dad is only 80... just turned in november. my parents' anniversary is jan. 14th... they will be married for 60 years.... i hope he's still here for that.

That is not wrong at all, but so amazingly unselfish.  Tears shed with you as you accept the saddest of times.  He is blessed to be loved so well.

I have been where you are, with my own father. One moment you are praying for a miracle, the next you are asking for a peaceful passing. We will pray for you as well as your father.

Sending prayers  your  way. I agree with Betty. I  don't  think you are being selfish at all.

My friend.......what you are hoping for is a 'perfect healing', and that is not wrong to ask for. Ten years ago this month, in fact eleven days from now, I also asked for a 'perfect healing' for my Mother. I prayed for all the pain and discomfort to end, so she could find peace.
I will pray that your Father, will also find the peace, he is so deserving of and I will pray for his very caring daughter.

Prayers continue for your Dad, and for your family to be comforted.

Celtic Lady

Thank you all for the thoughts, prayers, and kind words.
Update on dad... last Monday his visiting nurse came and didnt' like how he was looking so she called an ambulance after discussing things with the folks and my sister. Dad was taken to one of the top hospitals in the metro Detroit area (which is where my sister works). Within the 2 hours that he was there my sister told me they had already run blood work, chest x-rays, and a few other tests on him. They discovered that his white blood cells were elevated and the x-rays showed that he still had pneumonia and that he was pretty much only using 1 lung because of it. They even checked him out for TB, which he does not have. So far he seems to be responding to the medicine and the treatments they are giving him. The doctors say that it will be several weeks before the pneumonia is gone... as long as he continues to respond to the meds and treatments he's getting. The pneumonia he has is pretty bad and may have been there for quite awhile maybe since one of the first times he came down with it.
Anyway, due to this and a comment that his last pulminary doctor made my sister has insisted that dad will be getting a new doctor and will no longer be going to the hospital that he had been in back in October.

Betty Munro

That actually sounds promising.  It makes sense that he was harboring an infection and therefore his health was declining.  Proper treatment should make a world of difference!
Prayers for healing and comfort continue!
Be strong!

Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. Dad is doing better but he did have a mini stroke. They say he will have a little memory loss but it's not serious. The doctors are very pleased with his progress. It will still be awhile before he gets to go home.

Update on my dad...

Dad has been moved to a rehab facility. He had been in the hospital since January 4th and the other day they released him to rehab  :D.
While in the hospital they had discovered that the pneumonia he had was very severe and most likely caused by either water or a piece of food going down the wrong pipe and not fully coming back out. They tested his ability to swallow and found that he isn't able to swallow properly. Because of this he had a feeding tube surgically attached to/into his stomach. It can be removed if they find he is able to swallow again.

Prior to the feeding tube being attached he had a mild stroke. He's ok but it did leave him with some memory loss and some confusion.

I found out from my mom that while he was in the hospital they also found out that he had one of the MRSA bacteria and that was part of the reason he was failing. From what I was told his white blood cell count was higher after the first hospital and first rehab sent him home. I'm so glad they sent him to Beaumont this time.

thanks, irish.
this week he's been back at the hospital twice. the first time was to the ER because he was complaining of chest pains. the doctors at the hospital determined it was not a heart attack and sent him back to the rehab home. they believed it was sore muscles from physical therapy. mom says he does way too much and that the therapist doesn't limit him... doesn't make him do things gradually. he's been pretty much bedridden for a few months and has lost alot of muscle. anyway, today he was taken back to the ER because he was coughing up blood. this really sucks right now because i was going to go home for a few days to see him but now i can't because i've come down with a cold and can't be anywhere near him with it :(. my husband and i are planning on going home for Easter. no one back home knows this... it's a surprise. i'm just hoping nothing happens before i can get back there.
this has been a pretty crappy start to the year.
sorry for sounding like this. just have alot going on here and the stress from everything is gettig to me... physically and emotionally.

HUGS GIRLFRIEND.  :) I shall pray that your father gets healthy enough so you can visit him.   And try not to stress your self out girlfriend. I know it is easier said  then  done, but it is not good for  your own health situation  you are dealing with.   Hugs, and if you ever need to talk just remail me.  :-*
