I guess I can see their point about the no garb policy, however I don't agree with it. I suppose it would be "disruptive?"

For one thing, patrons come to faires dressed in garb and some people do not. The mundanes sometimes are confused, stopping garbed people for directions and asking questions about things they don't know, because they are just attending in garb. BUT...does that stop the faires from allowing people in garb? No, it does not.

Second example I thought of... last Sat. I went to SR Harris to buy garb fabric. I had a cart, but some people were just walking around and shopping. There was one woman who was asking anyone that didn't have a cart, if they worked there. She was a confused shopper and NO ONE was wearing garb.

Anyway, I just wanted to take photos of the tall ships, because I won't have an opportunity to see that anywhere else, anytime soon. I thought they would be good backgrounds too, for Capt. R wearing his garb. Not to sell photos, not for anyone else. Just wanted good garb photos for my own use. I have photos of him in garb, standing in the yard, with grass and trees. It doesn't do the garb justice, doesn't look right. He wore it to our niece's pirate theme wedding a few years ago and people thought she had hired a "real actor."  :)
So, yeah, it is disappointing.

Could you go in mundanes to take pictures of the ships, and then Photoshop your husband, in garb, in to the images?   ;)  :D

I go specifically *just* to see the ships.. so, that's not a deal breaker for me.

What weekend is the "Treasure Adventure"?

David Baldock-Yes, I do that, too. It's not easy to get the light from the same direction, the shadows right, the scale/porportions right, the angle right. I spend hours on one photo. I thought it would be so much easier to just *click* and be done. I guess I will have to go that route, though.

have him go in all green and then photoshop?   :P

btw, for those not already aware:

MN-DOT Duluth MEGAPROJECT!

Driving up there could be festive . . .

Considering that none of these Tall Ships were in any way associated with pirates, I don't think there will be any confusion.

BTW:
No laws as to how you dress.  Just keep the 'accessories' to a minimum.  This is Duluth.  Home of the ultra wierdos.

;D

Renee-Pirate Adventure is part of the overall festival!!

It could be crazy that weekend with traffic and consrtuction. There are alternative routes but they would probably be no faster due to the fact that its a hill and congestion.

Will- I may call myself an "ultra weirdo" from time to time but you may want to watch who you offend.

LadyFae

Hmm, I grew up in Superior and the husband grew up in Duluth.  I'm pretty sure that the Duluth area is more home of the "ultra conservitives" as opposed to the "ultra weirdos."  Hell, most people I know up there think that I am the weirdo!

I used to own a house on Park Point.  There are a lot of us wierdos up there, but we needed to keep it toned down because of the uptight a-holes who look down on you from the Hill.

So I moved.  I am a wierdo.  I can be a bit more open about it in the Cities.  Though, I don't look like one.  It's all in my head.

I forgot to inquire about this at yesterday's meeting! I was too busy catching up!

Anyone have their tickets arrive, yet?  I bought a pair of tickets & Sail Away and have not received anything, yet.

I don't know, having done living history events I can understand it. I assume they are trying to do accurate, educational portrayals like a historic site, as opposed to a "historic theme-park" in the way that renfairs generally work. "Disruptive" may not be the best term, "confusing to the public" would probably be a better description of their concerns

In case anyone is waiting their tix:

They will be printed at the end of June and mailed by second week in July.

Just recieved an email of which I will quote to be sure I give the proper information. This comes through "Olde World" which has a part in "Treasure Adventure" which is working with the city of Duluth.

"Tall Ships Duluth" is now allowing patrons to come dressed in garb, as long as it is appropriate for the public. So pirate garb in the city's festival and sailing ship area has now been ok'd. *add*(In addition to the adjoining Treasure Adventure).

The website is still to be updated with a list of activites but the website for Treasure Adventure is:
