I would like to know cuz, that may be the only thing I get to eat this at MNRF this year after my Gastric By-pass surgery. I know they have Chicken Wild Rice but what else do they have?

There's two or three soups at the soup in a bread bowl booth, but I don't recall the others beyond the wild rice

Here's the basic list of food types available

How recent is your surgery? My wife is about 5 years out now and continues to prefer things with a sauce to help them more easily pass the stoma at the top of her stomach. She's been lucky she hasn't become sensitive to any foods that didn't bother her before except for over doing sugar.

Thanks. According to the hospital staff (St Josephs Hospital, Park Rapids MN) they are working on getting me and the hubby in for the surgery in August, if we get pushed into September then we won't be coming down or if there are complications. We will be done with all paperwork and insurance stuff the 6th of July, then a 2 week wait for the authorization from insurance company. We are hoping to attend one of the last 2 weekends, so we will still be on a pureed diet just to be safe.

They have chicken wild rice, beer cheese, stew and chili. There is also a place with fruit smoothies and I think there might be yogurt somewhere.

One tip is after surgery you need -some- carbs. My wife followed the guidelines too closely and developed ketosis
http://diet.lovetoknow.com/wiki/Ketosis_Symptoms which is something no one warned her about. Otherwise she is a poster child for what goes right for a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. She lost about 200 lbs. and is healthier now at 49 than she has ever been.

One of my coworkers just had gastric bypass about a month ago.  She's still on a fairly simple diet, but I don't see why you wouldn't be able to have any of the soups out there.  Heck, you guys will be able to eat cheap out there, that's for sure, with the small portions you'll be relegated to!  Good luck!

Sitara: Thank you for letting me know what kinds they have, this makes it easier for planning our meals out as we should eat 3 small meals and 3 snacks all day.

Groomporter: Please tell your wife congrats! Thanks for letting us know about ketosis, the dietitian, doctor or his nurses have said nothing of this.

DeadBishop: Thank you for the good wishes. We are both looking forward to this and for me at least I wish it was already over and I was on the healing end, so I could make more weekends at fair that way. ;D That is very true that we will be able to eat really cheap at fair, as one soup bowl would be enough fro the both of us, maybe a little to much.

They also may not tell you that you may experience some hair thinning due to reduced protein intake. Look into New Whey liquid protein. it comes in four fruit flavors. The 3.4 oz tubes have 42 grams of protein, 0 sugar and 180 calories. (There's also a 25g version)

Last year I could not make up my mind, chilli or beer-cheeze...The young woman behind the counter said they are great together...Indeed they were!

I do like the wild rice soup best.

Good luck!
"Why a spoon cousin? Why not an axe?"
Because it's dull you twit, it'll hurt more. Now SEW, and keep the stitches small

I like the chicken and cheese mix myself.

There was an independent soup vendor over by the stocks. Are they still there? They had some different soup selections.

I haven't been able to stop wanting chili with beer-cheese soup since reading this yesterday.

I'd much rather get a crock pot going at the booth and eat good soup.  Sorry, don't really like any of the food out at fest.  I prefer to cook.
Nothing clever to say here.  Not enough caffine yet.

Well, now that you toss out that idea...  Bring out a crock of fixings, add stock, and slow cook for a few hours?  I like it!
