Sunday's Wild Weather

As those of you who were there know all too well, it started raining just after 3:30 Sunday Afternoon -- just in time to soak the knighting ceremony.  Just as the last kiddie was knighted, the fun really started.  The rain started coming down in buckets.  Then, starting about 4:30, we got several hailstorms, with hail up to 1.5" near where the Baroness and I were cowering in Leslie's shop, Noblesse Oblige.   I would guess that the site got around 2" of rain in about 1.5 hours.  (I was terrified that my 1 year-old SUV would be ruined, but when I go it home and washed the mud off the hood, I found only 2 smallish dimples.)  Naturally, the 5:30 joust was nearly patron-less.   

So, what did you do during Sunday's wild weather?

I had discovered two ladies wearing flip-flops, short shorts, and some rather skimpy tank-tops. They foolishly had let themselves become soaked thinking the rain would pass. *shakes head* I kept running them from shop to shop trying to help them 1. dry off, 2. warm up, and 3. get closer to a hot cup of coffee, and eventually their car.

Needless to say, I needed a lot of hugs by the time I made it back to the pub.

I was hiding in booth 303 (Right between the Birds of Prey and Noblesse) and only had to brave the weather long enough to return a credit card to a customer that had left it. Well that was all it took. I got soaked but it was kinda awesome. The hail beat just a bit out of my car

But overall it was interesting to see the mass exit of so many people.

I camped out in the back of my booth with a couple other wenches and let it pass--made the new girl stand out front with all the people who were taking cover under our eaves (hey, she's gotta earn her pay somehow! ).  No customers during the storm anyway.  I too was scared that the storm might have left my car worse for wear, but there were only 2 small dents in the roof and no windshield damage, thank goodness.  I've already replaced my windshield once this year.  Later I drove home to Greeley in some intense rain and later drove by a storm that produced a bolt of lightning right off the highway that lit up the inside of my car like daylight, it was that close.  Welcome to Colorado!

I was walking around the Shire going from shop to shop and stopped at New Pterodactyl and saw the rain coming in there. Sarah and I realized that Noble Oblige probably would need help too.  On the way there I stopped at the Royal Pavilion to help provide something to warm a few of the up.  There was a lady trying to make it up there with a baby in one are and the stroller in the other with her son following her.  I grabbed the stroller and told them to run. After them there was a girl sitting at the picnic tables crying in pain. I got her up there too.  Then there was a family hiding under one of the pine trees there, so I got them over to Dancing Bear pub.    Then I finally made it to Noble and helped with the tarps and the water coming down the hill.  

I can say that the leather coat and hat protected quite well through the hail.

Toki and I were thinking of you all.

Sadly we had to miss yesterday. We had full plans on comeing but that changed when we got home and more so the next morning.

I over slept by 20 minutes no big deal i thought, as my Elizabethan dress i was going to wear is easy to get into and out of... with help of course. Once out of the shower Tom was still sound asleep, I had the ahrdest time getting him awake and even then he was more a zombie than living being. he kept saying Sleep, must get sleep. He was dead tothe world tired and as we found he had to work today (Monday July 5th) As he has been working close to 12 hours a day for over a week the poor guy was not going to last even a few hours at faire. So we cuddled up and slep from 6 to 8:30 me with a wet head. he took a 3 hour nap and was in bed at 9 last night refreshed to work but I know he s still tired.

he said I could have gone by myself but getting someone to get ANY of my dresses and corsets requires help and I wasn't one to leave him at home all alone tired to the world. The ran hit up in Loveland at about 6 and continued to 11:30pm last night maybe past. Little hail though but a tornado watch to 8:30 and no fireworks display.

We are glad you are all well, safe and will see you this coming Saturday. We REALLY hope to make closing Sunday if things work out so maybe 5 more visits for us.

I have a habit of being in the Elephant Loop when the rotten weather hits.  Gad, I hope the Elephants made out all right...  The other fun part were all the people piling out of the Shire as the storm moved to the East... and headed... East, right to I-25.  NOW WITH LARGE HAIL!

We watched the "Flaming Idiot" show at the Celestial Stage as the rain was starting.   Despite the rain we set through the show to the extent he did it.  Guess the name in this case applied to the few of us in the audience not just the performer.  After that we headed to the weaving shop just at the top of the ramp expecting to just wait it out for a few minutes.  That didn't work out exactly as planned!

I was fairly dry in my booth, people watching.  I saw the Baron from my booth, but not the Baroness.  I giggled and felt sorry for the Baron's pocketbook, as I thought the Baroness might find something lovely in the shop while waiting out the storm.  I saw Avan coming down the hill to Leslie's and wished he had wandered my direction with his coat of many flavors.  The booth to my right had displays filled with hail and the tables were soaked.  We brought our customers out of the hail and let them stay behind the tables with us.  We sampled away on garlic stuffed olives, garlic bread, garlic apple spread and of course salsa.  If the rain never stopped, at least we would not go hungry.

I giggled and felt sorry for the Baron's pocketbook, as I thought the Baroness might find something lovely in the shop while waiting out the storm.

Lets see the shop made it ok, just a few leaks where the hail murderd a few shingles. Carts fairly well.

I got stuck in the Royal Pavillion when it let go. Keegan and I feel like we won the super hero award when we rescued a family who was hiding under a pine tree. It was amazing how many kiddos I could hide under my cloak to get them up the hill
