I'm so sorry to hear his news, Rapier. You've got a lot on your plate and it just keeps coming. If you can, find a moment to close your eyes and block out the world to find "you" in the mix of chaos that is life right now. And know that you have lots of support, in places you may not expect to find it.

We're keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.

Lady Kett is right.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Thank you everyone. Not even my divorce has been this hard.

Oh, my friend... I know how difficult this all is for you and your mother.  I wish there were some comfort I could offer.  I am praying as hard as I can that you will be able to be there for them both when they need you most.  I am so sorry you are having to deal with the rest of the world at this time...

I am going to go back tonight. This will literally be throwing my job to the wind, but I need to be there.

Do you have any sick days you might be able to use?  Maybe you could get around it that way...  Just a thought.

Drive safe tonight, and let your mom know that we're thinking of you all.

What about the Family Sick Leave Act? Check into that.
You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Bless you, I do know what you are going through.......

Rapier, I wish I was a real wizard and could do something to help. I'm sharing your pain. It might be good to check into FLMA as Irish suggests, but I don't know if it covers that or not.  I used sick time when my father-in-law died, but my department head authorized it.

My step-dad passed away this morning at 9:25am. He breathed his last breath, literally, moments before I walked into his room.

He is already sorely missed.

There will not be a ceremony or religious service as he was not religious in any shape, form or fashion. He will be creamated and his ashes scattered at sea. My dad was the youngest sea captain in maritime history, receiving his Masters papers from the King of Denmark at the age of 22. He sailed the seas for over 20 years, and has put ashore everywhere water touches soil. On his map of the globe, little red pins encircle nearly every inch of each continent. He was 6 years old during WWII German occupation of Denmark. He and his mates would run through any vacated German entrenchment and steal anything and everything not nailed down. Some of the stories I remember him telling are astounding.

He was a giant among men, in my estimation. And I am a better person, and a better father for having known him.

I mourn for you and your family, my friend.  I am praying that you will all find comfort in shared memories, and will have as many reasons to smile over them as to shed tears...  I am so glad you had the wonderful good fortune to have such a man for your father.

Ahhhh.... I'm so sorry, my brother.  I grieve with you for your loss.  He sounds like he was a great man.  Take comfort in the fact the the pain of living is over and that he's in a better place now.   :'(
