Well, one of us got a job offer out at faire, but due to other obligations it would most likely have to be Tiff. We wrestled with it, discussed it all weekend, and frankly, between her class load, concerns about camping with the baby every weekend, the fact that I could get mobilized for SOC on very short notice at any time, and just general finances we've both decided that it's probably best to not work faire this year. The way our luck goes- usually a rain of other-shoes dropping- there's too many instabilities to do it. It would be rough on Tiff while she slogs through a 15 hour class load and may wind up being the sole caretaker for Fíonna without much forewarning to also do a cannon-to-fireworks job over the weekend, which is about the only time she has for her online classes. And it wouldn't be fair to the booth manager to have someone who would be that unstable schedule-wise. So, it looks like we'll be out for opening weekend and AHE, and if I am still here, probably closing.

Of all the shows I've seen in the last decade, Firefly is by far my favorite. Very character-driven, great story lines.  I miss the 'Verse...
Come to think of it, gonna relax and watch Serenity this afternoon.

It ain't the years, it's the mileage.

Rani, how did your blender recipes work out?

Oh, I can hardly wait to share them!!!  Everyone thought they were great, and wanted more!  :D  Going back out this afternoon for a while, and we'll try out another couple...  ;)

Hey, Fraser... what was the handling fee for your weekend passes?  Did you just pay $1 for each pass, or was it still $2 because it's actually two tickets?

Well just got back from work weekend.

Had loads of fun, however, I found out the state of costumes. All spending has been halted ( the economy sucks ya know!) so the Bavarian costume direction Germany was going is halted too. I tried on a new dress as a plan B and its getting fixed up for me... it is a pretty princess dress and is much prettier than my older dress, it's as close to french as a German dress can go. There are other cast members scrambling for costumes too now that spending has been halted. It kinda sucks cause we were expecting to go another direction. There is talk of doing bake sales in the Houston area one friday night for donations to clothe the cast. Some of us would be out in costume, but most of us would be out in chemises and bloomers looking like sad puppies. I'll keep you guys posted on any event for fundraising that may come up. We need to raise $3,700 if we can to finish off costumes that needed to get done. We are waiting for the proposal of doing the fundraiser to go through.

We just want to look awesome! New costumes are really needed every few years because we need to start cycling out the older ones that are falling apart!

Hey guys- found this poem on Bartleby.com while looking for a good verse to start my blog off with- I think it fits most of us here- about the way that beginning hint of autumn makes the semi dormant Rennie in us take hold of our daily lives

Louis Untermeyer, ed. (1885–1977). Modern American Poetry.  1919.

Bliss Carman. 1861–

24. A Vagabond Song

THERE is something in the autumn that is native to my blood—
Touch of manner, hint of mood;
And my heart is like a rhyme,
With the yellow and the purple and the crimson keeping time.

The scarlet of the maples can shake me like a cry          5
Of bugles going by.
And my lonely spirit thrills
To see the frosty asters like a smoke upon the hills.

There is something in October sets the gypsy blood astir;
We must rise and follow her,   10
When from every hill of flame
She calls and calls each vagabond by name.

Oh, very nice...  And that's me, exactly, a vagabond right down to my toes that itch to feel the road beneath them, particularly when everything starts changing around me, and I know there will be a certain quality to the light... when all the shades of purple, gold and pumpkin will start chasing each other through the trees and vines... the sounds of harvest run along country roads, racing the horses through the fields... and everything has just the faintest hint of shimmer to it, as though seen in a dream.

I am always looking forward to Autumn... even in the earliest days of spring.

I'm in Houston...we don't have any of that. Someone want to tell me what fortells the ushering in of autumn in this town...try to be THAT poetic...I dare ya.

When there is mist in the air in the early morning hours, and the Canadian geese settle on any tiny patch of bright water they can find... when the wind howls in from the Gulf, bringing cooling rain that washes away the dust and heat of summer, and lightning that splits the sky like a revelation from the Gods, themselves... when there are so many festivals to choose from that it's difficult to decide, and the mouthwatering scents of barbeque, chili and seafood vie for supremacy on the salted breeze... and rodeo stars begin oiling their gear in anticipation of crowds, belles, bulls and broncs.

It might be a different style of poetry, but lyrical, nonetheless...
