M'lady has wondered about forms of communication - peasants and nobility.
Terms of address was covered opening day, so I'm wondering what she is actually asking for?
I am easily confused sometimes.  ;D

Mostly written or ways to communicate information (not how to address different people).

I apologize for the delay--life happened, like it does.

The head covering suggestion (which amused me because good gracious cover the head, but please feel free to expose your breasts or fornicate in the halls while at the French Court) and the information exchange suggestion have been passed on.

This weekend:

Saturday: Religion!
Sunday: Food and Drink! Yes, really. It was supposed to be last week, but we got sidetracked with laundry.

Any info that would be entertaining about the New World circa 1533?
DID England do any exploration under Henry VIII?

John Cabot, a Venetian, went to the New World for England in 1497 and discovered Newfoundland.

In 1527, his son, Sebastian Cabot (not THAT Sebastian Cabot) sailed for Molucca, but never found it.

If you google either Cabot, you'll find a lot of info on their various trips to, from and north of the New World.  Both of them brought back natives as oddities to show the Kings (Henry VII & VIII).  Overall, England relied heavily upon paying the French and Spanish explorers to do the initial work.

Here are a few links to start you off...

Hope this gives you a start ;)

Hey Folks!

The upcoming lectures are:
Saturday   April 30th    Scotland, and Scottish/English relations
Sunday     May 1st      Sex, love, and the lusty traditions of May

Don't forget to wear flowers in your hair for May Day! It's perfectly appropriate for the menfolk to do it, too.  ;)

I enjoyed Saturday's lecture. I can't wait to see what you come up with for this weekend.

I missed this, this past sunday. I was running around missing lots of things :( I hope to make it to the final weekend and attend this. Next year i'll have to make it to each one :) This year an upcoming vacation has gotten in the way. Any idea what the topics will be for the remaining three weekends?

LeahH

Hey Folks!

Here are the topics for this upcoming weekend!

Saturday   May 14th    Dance, music, and revelry: pastimes
Sunday     May 15th    Women warriors: the martial tradition among renaissance women

See you there!

I agree with His Grace of Suffolk that hunting might need a lecture all to itself. I know certain birds or prey were restricted by class and by sex. And hunting for peasants was very different than hunting was for the nobility.
But pastimes and games his last weekend did cover a lot of ground.

A whole class on hunting? That's a fantastic idea! I believe we've got an open slot during Memorial Weekend, so I'll pass that on.

This coming weekend:
Saturday   May 21st    Life at sea
Sunday     May 22nd   Resources of industry - Farming, mining, and goods of export

Thanks for all of your participation thus far. Two weekends to go!

I think that His Grace of Suffolk mentioned a hunting class for this Saturday. I am determined not to get distracted and make that one.
