Lady.... if you really hate Gatorade ... get some grape Pedialyte. It's really good.

For the morning tailgate.... there's probably 20-25. Any breakfast pastry is goooooood.... maybe we can talk Angus into bringing his poppers that day as well.

One very important question I must ask.  Where is the Hair Braider located?  If I don't get my hair off my neck quickly, I'm not worth being around the rest of the day.

Thanks for all the great information.  I'm going to check out as much as we can in our 3 days there.

Why do I feel like I've worn something like this before?

There are several (well at least 2) hair braiders. I know there's one in to the left down the hill (I know, that's helpful eh?) and one into the right past the elephants and down the hill (that was too huh?).

I think they're listed in the program or list of vendors on line.

I know the one to the right past the elephants (well, you turn left just past them) is directly between the Gypsy stage and Belly Dance Treasures in a two-story free-standing building.  I have a few friends that go there.

At least I know I have a choice.  It's funny up until the age of 10 I wore long braids and always asked my mum if I could wear my hair down to school just once.  Didn't happen.

Now I can't wait to get it braided.  Funny how even at my age I realize Mum knew best.  Thanks for the info, I'll find them.

The only thing I will say is do NOT underestimate how hot it can get. Hydration is a MUST. Alternate water & some sort of electrolyte drink. A few weekends back it was very hot & I saw a little girl being taken to first aid who had obviously overheated. If Memorial Day Weekend is hot I expect to see the med cart zooming around all over the Faire.
Also, go see the glassblowing. Peter & Chris do beautiful work & Peter imparts a lot of information on the history & science of glassblowing.

The 90 degress did me in yesterday about 3:00. I got fussed at for drinking only water and no gatorade. Do expect to deal with heat and humidity.

Come in the gates, take the left-hand path in front of the souvenier shop.  Turn left at the High Road (the first cross path you come to) and the first booth on your right is one of the hair braiders.  She's right next to one of the scent booths.  Go right in the gates and straight to her booth as her sign-up book fills up VERY VERY quickly.  She's amazing, and is the one that my hubby and I always use (or he did til he shaved his head *grin*).

Should you not get to her quickly enough, you have at least two other options that I can think of.  If you walk down the hill behind her booth toward the mass of picnic tables at the bottom of the hill, there is a hair braiding booth on the other side of that eating area.  OR you can head back across the High Road to the right of the gates, cross the Elephant Bridge (next to the bakery), turn left at the privies, and just after the garlic booth is the other hair braiding booth.

Hope that helps! :)

Much better directions than Alabama, I can assure you.

"Y'all head on down thah road yonder ways and up the crick a fur piece, then turn left whar the old barn burnt down ten yeerz ago..."

  ;D

And yes...Miladies braid is a serious priority...she will get rather cranky without such..... ;)

I usually get mine done elfen style when I come as my elf. Although if the two of them conspire (her and the braider ) to place flowers in it again, there may be some swording going on.... :o

Funny, though. We got some strange directions one night when we were pretty turned around on the roads near Lake Ouachita... We were advised "See that moon up thar? Just head straight fer it..."  We found our intended campsite... go figure...  ;)

The past few times we've gone out I've crashed about 3-4pm. I'm not handling the heat as well this year as I have previous. I'm not sure what I'm going to do Memorial Day Weekend.

I'm thinking for buy a Flask, and putting some Pedialyte in it.  If they give me grief, I'll tell them it's either this or hear stroke, It's there call.  I don't think they'll give me grief over that.

Note from visitor:

We went the end of April last year, & it was so hot, I passed out while eating lunch during a show.  Spent 4 hours in First Aid lying down with wet towels on my head and neck.  I can honestly say that the First Aid Dept. is wonderful!  They reacted quickly, came by in a golf cart to carry me back to their tent, and made me comfortable, brought me water and gatorade, and let me rest, but checked on me to make sure I didn't need anything more, like an IV.  (I didn't).

And I had been drinking lots and lots of water, it was just so darn hot.  The next day I went in mundanes & wasn't as hot.  But if you think you might need First Aid, don't even hesitate, because they did a wonderful job.

A quick comment on the electolyte additive.  Another thing you may want to try is Nuun.  It's a tablet that, when added to 16-20 oz of water, fizzes up and makes a nice sparkling drink.  I use it on the bike all the time; the flavor is MUCH lighter than gatorade.  I prefer the Tri-berry flavor.

Another option is a product called elete, which is an additive.  It is a concentrated electrolyte add-in.  It's pretty much tasteless so you add a few drops to what you are drinking, even plain water, and you've got an electrolyte drink.

You can find Nuun at some places like REI or Sun and Ski Sports.  Elete is a lot harder to find and you might have to order it.

If you are going to be there on Memorial Day then Scarby does a special parade for veterans,  If you are a veteran then please come by the cottage (take the left-hand path in front of the souvenir shop just below the bird stage and before you get to the castle)  in the morning and get a yellow sash.  Then all veterans whether they are grab or not are invited to march in the parade.  If you are not a Veteran you are welcome to join the other none veteran grabbed playtrons in forming a sword arc for the veterans to march under.

Oh Sat is our day of worng so expect to see aaaaa strange going ons.
