Let's see... '08-'09... What was I doing... Looking back on it, I did have good times, but I also know that there were times that had a "mask" on them, only to reveal the bad under it. It sucks, but I am hoping things get better.
*Short enough to not reach the pedals, tall enough for the rides at Six Flags!*

I'm splendid. That is all.

The Bad

  • The Army crippled me due to the stupidity of an NCO that outranked me making a decision that left me and several other soldiers perma-broken, whereupon we got to spend quite a few months in the hell-on-earth that is WTU where the "brokies" are thrown away like used tissues, drugged up to shut us up, and treated like pariahs
  • We lost our first child towards the end of the second trimester
  • I lost my mother to MS
  • Because of my injuries, and the crappy disability, I couldn't work, was too specialized to shift career fields, and we lost EVERYTHING- home, possessions, etc.
  • We were thrown under the bus by several people we had thought of as friends, a couple over something as trivial as having to house our cats in the loft at Faire for a week due to having no place to keep them
  • I went into a very very dark place as a result of the crippling, losing our baby, and the backstabbing, wrestled with my faith (not abandoning the Túatha de Dannan, just questioning whether I had screwed up and lost Their favour)

The Good

  • Tiff was pregnant again soon after we lost the first one, and we now have a beautiful, almost paranormally strong and healthy baby girl
  • My father damn near died right on the heals of my mother's death- worrying us all, because he is still in love with her, despite being divorced for 35 years- but made a surprising recovery when he discovered Fíonna was on the way, and has continued to improve ever since
  • I managed to get back into school and have been working on expanding my skill base out from LE/emergency medicine/PSD/EP work to include teaching. I am now fast-tracking both my Paramedic cert AND my Masters in Criminal Justice so that I can teach at the university level
  • I made new friends to replace the false-friends I had lost, many of whom are on this list reading these words. THESE friends have proven to be true ones, and stuck by me through the rough spots that I still faced.
  • I had a religious moment that hammered home precisely where I stood, and made clear that I had not been cast out
  • My wife and I went through almost every marriage-killer scenario a couple can go through- financial woes, loss of a child, unemployment, loss of home, being forced to live in VERY close quarters and be around each other all the time, pregnancy hormone psychosis, etc.- and we came out battered and bruised, but still going strong and madly in love with each other
So, the good outweighs the bad, barely perhaps, but it still does so. 2010 was a slow, pondering upswing, but we finally got back on our feet in the latter-half of the year. We had some rough spots, but the good FAR outweighed the bad last year. When I was tossed under the bus again by someone else at faire I had thought a friend, so many of you were right there to pick me back up, remind me that not all people are two-faced lying asshats, and that there are still a lot of decent folk in my life. I thank you all for that. Especially Meggers, cause she snugglable ;)

:)  Yes, Megan most definitely is that... and this really IS a place of magic, where people can form bonds that can last a lifetime, and withstand any fire, flood or pestilence the Universe sees fit to throw at them... because we share strength with each other, and love and laughter, as well, to whatever degree we're able.

I've lost my own unborn, Breandan... and I share your pain.  I also share your joy, in my own small miracle.  I was assured that she wasn't even possible... yet here she is, and she amazes me every single day.

I don't just call any man "brother" or woman "sister"...  ;D
