oh haha helps if I read past the article

Apparently there is another article... a newer article. One that explains specifically why certain acts are no longer part of our festival.

I will have to investigate this further. If I ever find it, I will let you all know.

Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves...

The authors intent was obvious - poison the well and force the peasantry to locate elsewhere. As is with most hateful articles in print, they have the reverse effect - people who did not know about the Larkspur hippies & gypsies now know when and where to find them...

The article was written in 2008, giving it three years to work its message into the masses; which, as I noticed the first two weeks of this years Faire has failed miserably in its attempt to dissuade travelers from journeying to our shire.

The rennies still gather in the village square, the shopkeepers still hawk their wares, and the mundane still pay admittance; all apparently obvious the article was ever penned.

I for one found the article quite useful - in these woeful economic times I am now able to use money I would have spent for toilet paper to purchase a ticket for next weeks faire...

A MUCH happier, friendly article was also written in 2008, but I am biased, since it is mine:

Indeed M'Lady.....a much happier & friendly article.  Not to mention the fact that it's an excellent article that would make anyone who has not attended a Renaissance Festival jump at the chance to buy tickets for the next faire.  Since I am not biased, I can say with absolute certainty that your article was far superior to that other piece of "media hype".  Huzzah Blushing, Huzzah!!!

Article update:

The article I kept hearing so much about was in the Colorado Springs Independent, printed June 7th. However, it has been pulled from the internet.

Apparently this article was written based on interviews of "paytrons." It did not paint the festival experience in kind lighting. An employee of the festival had printed out the article and brought it to the attention of Paradise... after that the article was removed from the internet. So, if anyone can get their hands on the June 7th issue of the Colorado Springs Independent, I'm sure that many of us would be intruiged to read a copy of the article.

This is very interesting, thanks for the info.  I'd be EXTREMELY interested in reading this article, if only to know what is being said by the trolls out there so I might best counter it.  Does anyone have any idea where one might find it?  Anyone got a hard copy of the paper from that day?

As for the '08 article, yeah, trash.  Part of the problem is that there are hints of truth here and there, which make the lies easier to swallow.  But ultimately this is the worst kind of subjective journalism, not written to relate the facts, but rather to push one person's opinion, leaving out all traces of opposing viewpoints.  Once again, I just really wish they'd take my blasted picture off it.  I'd very much not like to be associated with that kind of libel.

That being said, anyone want to frame a response to this recent comment for me?  I feel I can't really do it myself, for various reasons.

QuoteRumor has it that 90% of the street cast are newbies, and that the Captain Jack from the past 2 years is being replaced by the one they had prior, as seen by the above photo. This Jack seems he is only in it for the glory and not very kid friendly or family friendly for the patrons of the faire. Why do they even have Captain Jack Sparrow anyway?? Isn't that a copyright infringement? And why aren't Charming and Dashing coming back this year?

There is more to this comment that I haven't posted here, and which makes me roll my eyes, because if this person bothered to actually ASK anyone they might have gotten answers to a lot of the ill-informed questions they're posing.

How about "stop being an idiot."

Is that an okay response? Or too cynical?  ::)

I would say your response should be: *silence*. Don't dignify it with a response. I actually started typing a response to defend you, and then I realized that would be feeding the trolls, and why bother? We know you're a fantastic Jack, you know it, the gazillions of people who stop you every six feet for a photograph know it, and that's all that matters.

I too am rather curious to read the article. I'm sure that a library in Colorado Springs would have a hard copy of the paper. If any of you live near there, perhaps you could make a copy of the article.

What I want to know is... what did our friendly little festival ever do to attract such venom from this specific newspaper?! Why do they feel the need to slander our faire every couple of years?! I'd be especially curious to see if the article was written by the same journalist.
