I haven't seen a gardening thread for quite a while so I thought I'd start a new one.   Just wanted an excuse to boast about how well mine is doing.  I have 2 raised 4 x 8 beds with:

Slicing tomatoes, cherry, and grape tomatoes, bell peppers, sweet banana peppers, and cubanelles, onions. leaf and romaine lettuces, green beans oregano, (thats gone crazy growing- more than I know what to do with, came back from 2 years ago and i didn't even have a garden last year!) rosemary, flat leaf parsley, chives, basil - in containers,potatoes,zucchini- container, cucumbers -container, and an heirloom spearmint patch in another area of the yard.

Everything is so lush and green, and doing very well.  Lettuces and scallions making great salads every day. Can't wait for the first tomatoes, and green beans! Using herbs in any way I can think.  Can't wait for the tomatoes to come on and make fresh bruschetta with the basil, yum!

What say you all?  Any good gardening anecdotes or tips?  Whopper crops to brag about, or problems?   Do tell!

Well....after tons of chicken manure fertilizer, my potatoes, corn and pumpkins are almost mutant this year. :D
They have taken over the rest of the garden so that hasnt done so well. :-\
One tip. Always put seeds/plants with plenty of room apart. More room is better than the growing conglomeration I have right now!

I hear THAT Mairte!  Our first garden did really well but it was CRAZY trying to get anything out of it without trampling everything else!  Our second was better except that our Snap Peas died on the vines because the husband had them crawling up some fencing that apparently conducted too much heat!  Huge bummer because those are my favorites!  Our tomatos always do well and our peppers were quite plentiful last year.  Thus far this year we had one tomato plant die and everything else seems to be taking their sweet time to grow.  The crazy weather around here most likely has a huge part in that.  Not much for weeds this year so far, so I'm happy about that!  =)  We only planted a "small" garden this year because we will be moving away but we have cucumbers, three types of tomatos, peppers, bib lettuce, onions, chives (those crazy things try to overtake the ENTIRE garden!) and something else that I just can't think of right now...  Anyway, here's hoping for a bumper crop of what we planted!  =D

LadyFae, trampling on things is right!! I actually feel like I am on a jungle excursion when I venture into the vegetable patch. :o
Oh, I forgot to mention my tomato and pepper plants. They are well away from the mutant plants but as I got them started late, they arent as far along as everything else.
This morning I went out to look for the lettuce....low and behold, I found some, lol.  :D

I really wish that I could get something to grow. My blasted dogs keep laying on every thing that I had planted I just give up for the season :-\

I finally got my garden planted only 2 weeks ago, but so far everything is looking good. I have two 6x4 beds with an herb garden between them. Since I have so much going on for me this summer, I decided to only grow tomatoes, cucumbers and cauliflower this year.  I'm also giving plastic mulch a shot this year to help control weeds.

Fairly low maintenance I think :)

  I wish I had a brag for you  :(
Until this year, I had an excellent established 12 year old bed (4X8 raised) of asparagus that supplied mine and at least 2 other families with all the asparagus we cared to eat and more than enough to freeze and I would trade for tomatoes and peppers.
Asparagus, if started correctly with a scale and blight resistant strain, and fed about once per year, is a nice maintenance free perennial.  It does take about 3-5 years to get started, so not that many folks grow it.  Bugs, rabbits and dogs don't like it, so no need to fence it.
That is until the new lawn service felt the need to spray it with weed killer.
The beds tend to get a light mat of clover early in the season, which I pull out by hand once the shoots break ground,   I also have chive and rosemary in the same bed on either end.  For some reason, the service decided the entire bed needed to be soaked with what appears to be something like roundup, now everything in the bed is dead and brown.
The shoots were just breaking ground and now it looks like the rhizomes are weak and dying.  Looks like I will have to start over.

No brags here either. I used to grow tomatoes, zucchini, beans, and cucumbers but I got tired of dealing with the insects and vermin that either killed or ate everything. Now I just do herbs in pots on top of the picnic table so even the rabbits can't get to them! I have basil, parsley, thyme, mint, cilantro, and shiso--all doing well.  :)
I came, I saw, I skipped to my lou.

About the only thing that I can grow these days is older. I used to grow some things, but the rabbits, deer, and slugs get to it before I do...
