The Lady Mercedes

I forgot to post it on here, but I did see it, and I have to echo the current reviews: very bloody, but also a good film. PG was a pleasant suprise & yes, this is deffinitley a guys film (not that us ladies can't enjoy it too!)... :)
Why be mundane when you can be a Rennie?!

Saw this movie at my work and seeing two names, James Purefoy and Paul Giamatti as well as seeing it as a medieval flick I instantly bought it.

1. Seeing James Purefoy in HBO's Rome and knowing of his work in Solomon Kane (which I am starving to see) I LOVE this actor.
2. Seeing Paul Giamatti as John Adams has secured him in my heart FOREVER as a great actor.

Watching this film I LOVED it. It smacked of Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai" and Sturges' "The Magnificent Seven". You had all the requisite characters, the stoic leader, the drunken slob, the newbie, etc, etc. But by setting it against King John in the 13th century it was well cloaked.

I liked every moment of it, loved the characters and longed to know what happened to the survivors.

I kinda wanted more though.....I supposed I just expected more epic scenes, which I shouldn't have, seeing how this was a tale of a small band of rebels.

Either way, very worth watching. But as warned, very brutal.

One of the parts I love (not a spoiler) when Purefoy finally pulls his two hander.....as he's wailing away in pretty accurate combat form for that era, his sword is obviously vibrating just as it SHOULD....at this point I was sitting up and paying full attention to the movie.

Lord Clisto of York

Especially when he did the big "SPLIT" of the one guy.

YES! and I love the way he looked at it, beffore drawing it with a look on his face almost reluctant as he knew that once it came out.....there would be no stopping it......
