A couple things that I can say about the Epona Faire.....They need to put some dollars into advertising. Relying on word of mouth or Facebook friends only works for pool parties in Fort Collins. Also, some signs out on the highway in different locations would be a great help and it might draw in the people who might be simply curious about what is going on there. It was great to hear Pandora Celtica perform there and the beer was cold. Thanks to the barkeep of the Red Dragon Tavern who filled up our tankards all the way full! The place has potential. I say we give it a few years and see what happens. Now, if only the giant microwave oven in the sky would just let up a little....(Oh, and that costume jewelry vendor was pretty cool. Lady Delaney and I got matching Thor's Hammers pendants.)  Thanks to Nighthawk for letting us fondle his nice leather products and being generous with his time. And, It was great to talk to Wheatie and all.

That's no joke. I lost my a... donkey... on this one. There was so little attendance! Oh well. You win some and you lose some.

Toki, it was my pleasure. It was nice to actually have someone to talk to...  Thanks for stopping in, and for the praise! I had such a miserable sales weekend that I was starting to wonder if my work had suddenly gotten bad!!

We're planning on being there Sunday.  Not sure what we will be wearing but I'm sure it will be renaissance than medieval.

I did see you wandering around! I thought I recognized you!

Well, we mostly promoted BrethrenCon through word of mouth, Facebook, etc. and we had a bigger attendance than that.  'Course, this year we had a pathetic attendence compared to what we've normally had... but I will keep my thoughts about why that was quiet for the time being, other than saying that we DID at least attempt to advertise through other means in years past, wheras this year... well, yeah it was pretty much just word of mouth and facebook.  So there's that.

Point being, advertising is key, especially with such a new event.  If people don't hear it's happening they won't end up going.  Honestly, I'm kinda' glad I wasn't able to make the trip this year.

I would also like to say something that I was saying to A LOT of people at BrethrenCon this year.  That is, we should make this a community effort.  It's one thing to have an event that a couple people put on and hope other people come to.  It's another thing to get the entire community involved somehow in putting it on.  Many hands make light work, as they say, and the more people who are doing something personally related to the event, the more people come, want to come, and tell their friends to come.  Whether it's vending, doing a stage act, volunteering for a couple hours, or just plain planning to show up.

Organizing events during the day - like pub sings, for example - that involve anyone who wants to participate, and aren't pre-planned "shows" can be very helpful too.  More immersive.

And another thing they might consider is getting the SCA involved.  the Society isn't involved at all in CRF, for a whole myriad of reasons, so why not get them involved here?  It would certainly be something to set this particular festival apart.

Once again - I say, make it a community effort.   The more people who are personally invested, the more people will come.

But then, someone should really be telling them this...

Already done, Cap'n. Thanks for the thoughts.
