I am looking to form a musical group focusing on singing shanties and sea songs, and educating people about shipboard life for the 2013 season. I need a couple of "polished" singers and several people who can sing well enough to sing the choruses, but who don't need to be super polished. I'm looking for the more authentic sound of shipboard work songs (though women are welcome!). Ideally, most songs will be a cappella, with audience participation encouraged on the choruses, but some instruments would be nice too. Contact me if you are interested. Feel free to share this info with others who may be interested, as well.

If you get this worked out for Faire this season, I hope some videos get posted!

Wow!  I would love to do this!  Too bad I live in Kansas City, and usually only make it up to your faire once per season.  I hope to see you this year!

Well if we get a slot, you can definitely come and sing along! The great thing about shanties is that the choruses lend themselves really well to pub sing type environments. :)

Don't know if they are still doing it but, Merlin's Rest on Lake Street had a shanty sing, I think, on the 4th Monday of the month? Might be a recruiting field if they still do it.

How has this been progressing?  Are you guys still planning on doing this, this year?

This was the group that has become Hardtack Jack.  We have performed at Tall Ships Duluth, the Iowa Renaissance Festival (in Amana), and at the Iowa-Minnesota Pirate Festival (in Clear Lake).

We will be performing 5 shows a day at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival -- three just outside the Mermaid Cove beginning around the opening times for the Cove, and one each at Queen's Pub and the Troubadour stage.

Oh!  Rest assured!  I know quite a few of these!  Hey, can somebody shoot me a playlist?  Here or pm?  I'd be happy to brush up on ones I'm not as familiar with!  I'll see you guys Labor Day Weekend!

First weekend we were down one member, so it was a little rough around the edges, but all in all things went pretty well.  :)
