I got the news from Norm first thing Sunday morning, just as we were settling in at the White Hart.  He asked me to pass it on, something I was really not looking forward to.  I decided to tell everybody on my usual rounds of the White Hart and the Dragon as early as possible, so everybody else would have a chance to recover a bit during the revelries of the day.  All the faces I told showed the same kicked-in-the-gut expression I had felt when I was told.  I was pretty sure there would be a toast at Pub Sing "for absent friends" in his honor.

I avoided Hengrave Hall most of the day, only stopping by near the end of the day to see Norm.  I happened to stumble across the formation of the Danse Macabre parade, with everybody dressed in black, skull masks and skeletal gloves.  I asked if this was especially for Ron and Joe told me that while no, it was an annual event, this one would be dedicated to Ron.  A historically accurate remembrance of death - Ron would've found it quite appropriate.

John started the Pub Sing off by announcing a song for absent friends, and then Skivee came up and sang Auld Lang Syne.  Although I hated to be seen getting that teary-eyed right after the first song, I'm glad I didn't have to walk out at the end of Pub Sing in that condition.  As it was, I was glad to be where I was, in the middle of the White Hart, surrounded by understanding and supportive friends. Indeed, it was most fitting to hear news of his passing at faire on the day when the ren family is the closest, a day already full of goodbyes and fond memories of what has passed.  Knowing Ron, I can almost imagine he planned it that way.

Reading over this, I feel the need to apologize for writing something that sounds like it's so much about me.  It's probably a consequence of once again not knowing what to say.  It's also the only way I knew to illustrate how much the faire thought of Ron, and how supportive the family of faire is.  When I saw Ron in the wheelchair that day, one of the things he said was that he was afraid that Gloria would pull away from faire (and consequently the people at faire).  Carolyn was there as well, and replied that she didn't think the people would let that happen (which brings up a rather bizarre image of a bunch of stalkers in 16th century dress).  As everyone has said, you have our love, our prayers, our sympathies, and our offers for any kind of help and support you desire.  As always let us know how we can help.

I will be there in spirit but not body as I am committed to another event that I simply cannot escape as much as I would prefer to be there with you and everyone else in remembering him.  Any other time this week I could and would cancel to be there but not Thursday.  :'(  My prayers are with you in this time of great sadness.

A beautiful chapel setting, filled with family and ren family, spiritual and warm, exactly like Ron himself. I miss him, and will think of him and drink to his memory at every opportunity!
