Lady D, I think he was wondering why they're not pronounced the way they're spelled, such as MO being pronounced Missour-UH instead of Missour-EE, the way folks who DON'T live there say it...

I lived there for a few years and there are plenty of people in Misour-ee that pronounce it Missour-uh - I too, have no idea where that comes from, but then I used to live in Des Moines, Iowa and that name got butchered also.

Once in New York, someone asked where I was from and I said 'Iowa" and she so politely said "oh, honey, out here we pronounce that O-HI-O (enunciation each syllable)"  I thought - I bet you do !  :P

It never ceases to amaze me, good Gauwyn...the ignorance of so many people in this country who actually think they know what they are talking about. Iowa <=> O-HI-O?!? Reminds me of a story about someone in a senator's office that when asked about what the senator was going to do about some problem in New Mexico, the senator's aide replied that they weren't planning on getting involved in a foreign country.

Lady D, thanks for providing us with the origins of those state names, but I actually was asking about the pronunciation. (Someone needs to ask Rani how it is that Okies pronounce "Miami," as in Miami, Oklahoma)

Elo, hosting a RenDezvous would be extremely difficult for someone like me...but then I have trouble planning a trip to the bathroom...

Lady Nicolette and I hosted Rendezvous III and it wasn't that difficult. You just have to want to have fun.

MCracks need Guinness...that was all we really needed to know.

Carolina Renaissance Festival does serve Guinness!  :)

Lady Mikayla, I heart you.  :-*
Nothing clever to say here.  Not enough caffine yet.

I believe I could suffer through a few pints of Guinness...while I wait on the next keg to be tapped...

For those that were at that Meet and Greet, I do believe it was a two-keg night.
But Lairde would know for sure....

The incredible mudslides were indeed legendary.

That would be Mah-'am-uh... and I had nothing to do with it, I swear!!!  :D

Oh, those mudslides!  I still have flashbacks...

Are they as "memorable" as the yagger bombs from the previous year?
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

The bartender at the Meet and Greet mixed them 'island style' as requested.
You could see the striations of alcohol. I still have fantasies about them.  ;D

Sorry--back to topic!

Lady Renee Buchanan, I saw that you posted in the child boards!  Bristol sounds like an awesome faire!

Now for anyone else that would like to host a RenDezvous let us know by going to the main page of the RenDezvous section.  At the top of the page there is a "child board" called "Please pick our faire!".  Click on the  "Please pick our faire!" and start a new topic on why the mods should consider your faire.

Happy Hosting!

When will the decision be made by the Mods as to which faire will receive the 2012 Rendezvous?

Oh, here's a shameless plug .......

Wisconsin is in the middle of the country, so both coasts wouldn't have to travel across the country to get there.  And the area is served by 2 large airports, Milwaukee and Chicago.

The end of my shameless plug.     ;D
