Trematon Castle is situated near Saltash in Cornwall, United Kingdom.

The castle was established here by Robert, Count of Mortain soon after the Norman Conquest. From the Conquest until 1270, the rights for the ferry from Saltash Passage on the Plymouth side of the River Tamar to Saltash belonged to the Valletort family. When Roger de Valletort sold Trematon Castle and manor to Richard Earl of Cornwall, the rent was paid to the Earl's bailiff. In the thirteenth century, this amounted to nearly seven pounds sterling.

Ramkot Fort is an ancient fortification situated in Azad Kashmir, Pakistan beside the Mangla Dam.

Located on the summit of a hill, Ramkot is built over the site of an old Hindu Shiva temple. Parts date back as far as the fifth century.

Horodlo castle was located near the river in the village of Horodlo, Poland.

Castle of Penedono, also called the Castle of Magrico, is located in the village of Penedono, Portugal.

The oldest documentary sources mention this area only at the time of the Reconquista Christian the Iberian peninsula to the Moors , the purpose of repopulating the region after the victory of the forces of Ramiro II of León in the battle of Simancas ( 939 ).

Gniew castle is located in Gmina Gniew, Poland.

Gniew was built by the Teutonic Knights on a square plan after 1290 and enlarged in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.

Nenadovic Tower is situated in the town of Valjevo, Serbia.

It was built by Duke Jacob Nenadovi? with his son Jevrema in 1813 out of the ruins of a medieval castle which had been called Vitkovica. You can still see the lines of the castle's foundations as earthen ramparts around the tower.

Porto Palermo Castle is a castle near Himarë in southern Albania.

It looks to have been built prior to the evolution of the star fort design. Most probably it was built by the Venetians as it could be relieved by sea and it has the same triangular plan with round towers found in the Venetian fort at Butrint. Which would put its build date in the sixteenth century.

Teishebaini Castle, also Teshebani, modern Karmir Blur referring more to the hill, is located in Albania.

The city of Teishebaini was built by Rusa II in the first half of the 7th century BC to protect the eastern borders of Urartu from the barbaric Cimmerians and Scythians. Within the city was a governors palace that contained a hundred and twenty rooms spreading across more than 10 acres (40,000 m2), and citadel named the Citadel of Teisheba after the Urartian god of war.

Burgruine Federaun is a castle in Carinthia, Austria.

The earliest recorded mention of Federaun dates from the year 1311.  In the middle of the 13th  Century it was conquered Rudolf of Ras.

Sombreffe Castle is located in Sombreffe, province of Namur, Belgium.

The chateau was originally a fortress in the defense line of the Duchy of Brabant.  In the thirteenth century, it was a simple dungeon belonging to the lords of Orbais.

Lovrijenac Fortress, often called "Dubrovnik's Gibraltar", is located outside the western wall of the city of Dubrovnik in Croatia.

Early in the 11th century the Venetians attempted to build a fort on the same spot where Fort Lovrijenac currently stands. If they had succeeded, they would have kept Dubrovnik under their power, but the people of the city beat them to it.

Drabske Svetnicky is a ruin of a castle in the Czech Republic.

The first fortifications were carved into the rock in the Thirteenth Century. Most of the visible remnants date from reconstruction in the Fifteenth century before the castle was finally abandoned.

Hrad u Bozanova is located west of Bozanov, Czech Republic.

The castle was mostly a primitive stone fortification carved out of the rock. The are is still a stone quarry, although the castle has been in ruins for centuries.

Tarvastu Order Castle is a castle in the village of Tarvastu, Viljandi County, Estonia.

The castle ruins we see today were built by the Livonian Order in the early fourteenth century, possibly on an earlier Estonian stronghold. The large stone water mill nearby was of strategic economic importance. Tarvastu was attacked first by the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas troops in 1329 .

The Château de Chalus-Chabrol is a castle in the commune of Châlus in the département of Haute-Vienne, France.

It consists today of an isolated circular keep (12th century) and a residential building constructed between the 11th and 13th centuries, enlarged in the 17th century. It is most famous for the death of Richard the Lionheart, who died there from a crossbow wound while besieging the castle in 1199. His entrails are buried in the castle chapel.

















The castle of Chalus-Maulmont, still called Tour du Fort, is also located in the town of Chalus in France  .
