For those of us  who have a clear night out tonight :

The first full moon for 2010 is also known as the wolf moon and will shine brightly on the last weekend in January. Add to the night of sky-watching a mix of Mars and you have quite the spectacle as the moon and Mars increase in brightness.

Full Moon 2010 - Wolf Moon & Mars Equal Big Night for Skywatchers

Fox News notes in a report on the origins of the term 'wolf moon' it (is) "a moniker dating back to Native American culture and the notion that hungry wolves howled at the full moon on cold winter nights..."

How bright will it be? Thanks to Mars, expect some serious light.

According to a report from National Geographic, "The 2010 wolf moon will appear 30 percent brighter and 14 percent larger than any other full moon this year, because our cosmic neighbor will actually be closer to Earth than usual."

I'm partially Scottish, partially Irish, and there's a small amount of Native American somewhere in there...

Too cloudy here. I was hoping to see it.

I was out looking at it a bit earlier. I kept thinking it reminded me of the Wolf Man moon. It's very misty/hazy here tonight so though it's not clear, I can still see the whole moon peeking through the pines and the spanish moss draped oaks. Very pretty, wish I had a camera that could capture it.

We had perfect viewing here last night. The moon was very bright  when i first looked  out  I  thought  we  had left  our out door  lights on. Looked so pretty  with  the full moon  and  the  fresh white  blanket of  snow  on the  ground.

We had no visibility last night but I could feel the full moon there, anyway.  Things have been... intense, last couple of days.

I was setting myself on fire last night, after drinking vodka and whiskey and trying my hand at spinning fire poi and a full moon drum jam. It was a good night, and I still have *most* of my hair.

I got to see it on my way into work...on call and they scheduled a case for the morning...usually happens round full moontime.  At least I'm not at a trauma center...always extra staff on hand for full moons.
