When your daughter, who is 6 and been attending faire since she was in utero, still refers to Bunny, Charity and Faith as her "sisters" regardless of who's in the troupe that year.

The Theme for the Toastmasters Meeting is "A Renaissance of Faires".  You immediately come to this list to get the Funnies for the day.  ;D

Oh and when you do the impromptu speaking the questions you pose are:

  • If you were given unlimited funds, what character would you create? And Why?
  • When you hear the term Rennie, what do you think of?
  • If there was a Steampunk Convention, A Fur Traders Rendezvous, A civil war reenactment, and a Ren faire going on all at the same time, with in 30 minutes of your house which would you go to, and why?
  • Should Historical Faire's require that everything be historically accurate?
  • You are in a store, if you saw a man in a kilt.  What is the first thing that comes to mind?
  • In your mind, what is the proper way to wear a kilt?
And you can't wait to see your coworkers eyes bug.
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

This one popped into my head....

You are watching the new Thor movie and at the climax of the movie where the heros are walking down the street. (If you have seen the move you should know what I'm talking about )
To yourself you say 'the line', and 2 seconds later your hubby SAYS the line,  only to have the movie say 'the line'. And NONE of this surprises you in the slightest because you could see it really happening.  ;D

RE:  LadyStitch's reference to Thor "the line" - I watched movie with my Son and Grandson and about 5 seconds before "the line" I turned to my Son and said "I keeping waiting for someone to say ..."  We both nearly fell out of our chairs laughing when it was delivered on screen for real.

You spend the second weekend of faire sewing new youth size shirt and kilt to be worn the third weekend of faire because you simply can't stomach the polyester pirate garbage grandma was trying to put your 10 year old nephew in.

Polyester and 80+ degrees just don't mesh.  Why can't I convince her of this?

bright side -  I learned how to size and pleat tartan!   ;D

You drive to TN for the weekend to see your friends from all over, and don't even care that it's a 10 hour drive requiring 2 1/2 vacation days (because you use almost all of your vacation days to go to faire).

And while at said faire, Craig of Farrington, during his show, introduces you to the audience & tells them you & your husband made it a point to see him 2 weeks ago doing his winter show at a jazz club in New Orleans, you came to see him in TN, and in 2 months, you will see him at Bristol for the summer.

Yes, but don't forget how he "transforms" for the Faire vs his venues in New Orleans.

Absolutely!  We walked into the Balcony Music Club to see his group. They weren't playing at the time, so we went up to the bar & I stood next to 2 guys talking.  One looked at me, I said hi & smiled, as I always do, then Steve ordered our drinks.  When the drinks came, Steve said, "Say hi to Craig."  He was the man next to me, and I didn't recognize him!  What a difference in regular clothes without the red beard!  Whatever he looks like, he is a genuinely nice man, and Steve and I enjoy his shows, no matter what the location!

Another incident, this time during our visit to St. Louis.

You know you're a true rennie when one of the performers, who also performs at your home faire, in the middle of a show, on a sweltering 94 degrees day, says from the stage, "Renee, are you ok?  Is it too hot for you?  Do you need some water?"

I thought that was the sweetest thing, before starting the next song, to check to make sure I was ok.     ;D

Your feet ache, your hips are in agony, you're hot as heck, ready to pass out from heat and exhaustion, the car with its reclining seat, air conditioning is only 5 minutes away and still you stay, stay, stay!

Guilty as charged,  just ask Lord Dragon about this one.
Why do I feel like I've worn something like this before?

...you are playing Sims Medieval and you recognize the key music for the Peteran Monastery as "Ja Nuns Son Pris"....and go to get your Owain Phyfe CD to listen to him sing it.

And you try to figure out how to do it even if you can't afford it... and your renlet will have to skip all 4 of those days of school... and most of what you will have to spend for the trip will go for gas.  ;D

Isn't that what PTO is for?  Most of mine goes towards non-local faires and other historical time-line events.
