Hi All!

Our audition notice is now officially out there and is also posted on Theatre Port.

I always post it here as well just in case someone gets the urge to come join our merry band of players.  I read down below we have some folks interested in auditioning as fairies.

The Texas Renaissance Festival (www.texrenfest.com) will be holding auditions for its 2010 season on Saturday, May 1 and Saturday, May 8, 2010. All ages and experience levels are invited to audition. We will be auditioning for street characters as well as specialty acts. All positions are paid.

The Texas Renaissance Festival is the largest and most attended Renaissance theme park in the United States with 2009 attendance topping 400,000 patrons.

If you have a big personality, are willing to let go of your ego and have a fantastic time in a highly creative and team oriented theatrical experience, then we would love to meet you.

Auditions are by appointment only and be made by contacting Entertainment Director, Jeff Baldwin at 1-800-458-3435. There are two sessions each audition day; please specify if you would like morning or afternoon. Times and location are as follows:

The auditions will be held at the Festival site at the entertainment building located behind the Globe Stage. The address is 21778 FM 1774, Plantersville, TX 77316.

Morning Session: Check in 8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. (Everyone auditioning this session must check in during this time)
Specialty Acts Audition: 9:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
Character Auditions: 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Afternoon Session: Check in 12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. (Everyone auditioning this session must check in during this time)
Specialty Acts Audition: 1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Character Auditions: 1:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Anyone late for check in will not be permitted to audition.
Auditions will be conducted by the Entertainment Director, Jeff Baldwin, Assistant Director, Stacy Bakri, and members of the production team.

Specialty acts may be groups or individuals who perform music, juggling, storytelling, dance, etc., and will have 10 minutes to showcase their talent. Content is up to performers and costumes and props are encouraged.

Performance Company character actors will be auditioned in a workshop format featuring improvisational exercises and games, dialogue, and accents. Headshots, resumes and prepared audition pieces are appreciated, but not required. Monologues should be of the period and no longer than two minutes. Songs must be performed a cappella. Please dress appropriately for movement (shorts, t-shirts, sneakers). No costumes please.

Check in will take place at the entertainment building. Please enter at the main Festival entrance and follow the signs around to the entertainment building behind the Globe Stage. There will be dressing rooms available if they are needed.

All details may be found here: http://www.texrenfest.com/auditions.html

In an effort to keep Captain's fagile ego in check, I have added Royal Guard to the list of character types we will be auditioning.  Shhhhhh Randy.  Its all OK.

You do such a wonderful job and make it an extreme enjoyment to come.  Why would you want to retire and take that away from everyone?
May the stars always shine upon you and yours.

here's the problem, though- if they opened up the auditions for the Royal Guard, I would go audition just because there is a chance- minute though it may be- that I could get the gig, and then you'd be stuck with me aaaaaaalllllll daaaaaaayyyyyy, for the entire run of faire and rehearsals ;D

be careful what you wish for ;)

And its going to be this year!!!  Seriously, its a fun audition, low pressure.  Just be yourself, be outgoing, take initiative and don't be afraid to look like a goof.

Whats the commitment? Isn't it from the start of rehearsals, every weekend till the end of faire?

I wanna audition, I just don't know if I can convince my mundane job to let me......

Maybe if I work there the vendors will actually give me ice for my eye if a kid hits me with beads again!!! lol, j/k I run from kids with mardi gras beads now....

If you are cast, you will be committed to 7 weekends of rehearsal which includes 6 Saturdays of our acting, scripting, improv and character development workshops, 6 Sundays of dance and fight rehearsal (if you chose to participate in those activities), and the 7th weekend of rehearsal being dress rehearsal (mandatory attendance both Saturday and Sunday).  We then have 8 weekend of the run of the show with your attendance both Saturday and Sunday of each week mandatory.  The day after Thanksgiving (Friday) is also mandatory.  We have two days during the week in October for School Days. You will be asked to provide any potential date conflicts you have on your information sheet when you check in at auditions.  We take an official rehearsal break over Labor Day weekend, but there is a voluntary 3 day work call at the site to clean, make repairs and do odd jobs for the show.

Rehearsals begin in August and before that we will have a day of orientation for new performers where we go over the rules of the Festival, the performance company, safety workshop, costuming workshop, how to create a new character workshop, and capping the day off with some team building games and a company bbq.

Being part of the performance company is an experience that very few come away from negatively.  Its fun, its rewarding, you will make some of the best friends you will ever have, you will work hard, and you will have the satisfaction at the end of the day knowing you worked well and worked your behind off.

If you've got any other questions about some personal specifics, go ahead and drop me an email @ stacybakri@comcast.net and I will do my best to answer.

Ciao!
