Holiday Garbing/Gifting

It's been so quiet in here lately! I thought I might liven things up with a post about the garb and/or supplies we're either giving or hoping for this holiday season!

The #1 thing I've asked Milord Santa for is the Fabulous Fit dressform padding Fitting System. I think Lady Rebecca posted about this in a thread earlier this fall, and I was completely smitten! I have a teeny tiny (probably a size 2) store display form I've been wanting to pad out, and this looks like the easiest way. I don't know much about it yet, but I'm trying to study up before we order.

I did so much sewing for family this summer that I'm not doing any for the holidays (and also I just sent my machine to the spa for two weeks!), but I am ISO some more Gimli pieces for Milord's ensemble.

I made a shirt for the monsters handler ( aka as the worlds most awesome babysitter EVER! ) and a pair of bloomers for one of my friends. Thats all the garb that I am sewing for a while!

But

I have 2 triceratops and 2 stegosaurses to finish, I am done with the brontosaurses though I have renamed them lumpasaurs. Its all slow going with my blasted shoulder bitching all the way. Im doing good i think ya know only a week and some change till Christmas..

As far as what I'm giving, I am making my dad a frock coat with attachable capelet, and I have made my mom a cartridge-pleated skirt, am making her a waist cincher/sash, and have decorated a bonnet for her.  Because we're all going to the SF Dickens faire!

I managed to pump out 6 harem pants this last week for my bellydance teacher's troupe!

I have three scarves/hats to finish knitting.

I want to make another Ghawazee coat, we'll see.

With Alterations slowed down to a trickle this month, I have been busy with hand sewn Christmas gifts be they crocheted Doilies, shirts for the menfolk, jammie bottoms to wear about the house, and other miscelleanous items.

As for myself, the Earl has informed me no gift will be coming.

That's okay. I have plenty in my stash for a new gown and other period garb.

You read my mind, Gem, I was just thinking that I wanted to ask what sort of sewing stuff people were hoping for this season!

Milord got me a large cutting mat from JoAnn's, which I hope I will get a lot of use out of.  It's one of those things that I think would be good to have, I just hope I actually USE it!  Also have some pattern tracing paper coming.  Hm, I think that's it for sewing.

I'm secretly hoping my mom is giving me an Amazon gift card so I can pick up that Brother serger that Gem was eyeing a while back....  Looks like a good one.

I'm hoping to give to MYSELF...an organized sewing room.  We had to clear a room for my mom to move in with us, who is losing her battle with cancer sadly, and loaded up my sewing room with stuff that doesn't belong there.  Hoping to get organized and relocate some things so I can get back to work!

I do not have a real sewing gift list.  My family typically just hands me a gift card to Jo anns and say "Have fun storming the castle."

I'm not doing any new garb sewing for Christmas.  The extent of my Christmas sewing was taking a couple hours and making a couple velvet Santa hats for people.  Last year so many people loved the Pink Pirates that they wanted one this year, and are paying me for it, so who am I to complain.

Add on that I have a show that all costumes are due to the theater the day after Christmas, I'm spending my time working on that.   All I know, is that after the New year, the sewing room is getting an over haul, and I have a bunch of sewing to do to get ready for Sherwood and Scarby.

I forgot!  The main thing I asked for this year was to have the bonus room finished.  I want to turn that into my mega awesome total cool AND organized sewing/craft room!  It will be twice the size of the bedroom I am currently occupying.  Even if I get gift cards to Lowe's and such it will still take us about a month to finish, doing it ourselves (cheaper!).  I told hubby that if I woke up Christmas morning to a big roll of insulation with a bow on top I would be happy as a clam!  Don't you love rooms above garages!?

Hee, Dino, the room above our garage *is* the spare bedroom. LOL And ours is full of finished garb. But I'm with Nicole on this--the #1 thing I want is beautiful, organized storage for my sewing stuff that's currently in the dining room.  Unfortunately, I don't know exactly how I want it. What I really need is to hire an organizer/designer to come in and custom build me something... but that's NEVER going to happen.

Milord just bought me the FF Fitting System I posted about above. It popped up on Amazon for a savings of $35, so YAY!

I have been asked by my 3 year old son to make him a "pink prince" outfit. He loves the color pink, it's been his favorite for 2 years now and his crush on any and all princesses has only grown over the years. I found and ordered the discontinued pattern Butterick 5656. So as soon as I get it and take a look, we will hit the local fabric stores and see what we can come up with. I want to try to give him as much pink as I can, but in a princely way. I'll be sure to post pictures.

Theres quite an extensive list of gingher scissors and rotary cutters etc. on my wishlist. but thats about it for sewing related gift requests...

Now as for sewing, I'm making lots of fleece hats at this point, doing some repairs to some coats for friends...and a hoodie modification (turning a white hoodie into Gir from invader zim)...not to mention all of the stuff I'm making to sell on Etsy under the name Poison Threads to match my website http://www.poisonthreads.com ...I'm not sure what all I'll be making but I'm sure it will be mostly warm weather gear and garb...

My wishlist is littered with sewing/crafting furniture (chair, storage), books (Medieval, Tudor, theatre), measurement tools, etc, but my recent sewing gift was a serger, so I'll likely get socks for the holidays. 
I'm making a dice bag for a gift exchange, and that should be my only craft item.  However, my mother is gifting babysitting for the week, so I might get to make a pair of bloomers for myself.

Since our relatives live in faraway parts of the country (which is mostly our fault since we live on a giant sandbar sticking out between the Caribbean and the Atlantic in one corner of the USA), they usually send money for Christmas. And my wife has already agreed that we can try to get a serger with it!

For Christmas, I'm sewing up fleece remnants into hats. It's easy and quick, and uses very little fabric, and people really like them. I know I've appreciated the one I made for myself over the last few chilly mornings. (It's getting cold enough to go outside and make sand angels! BRRRRRR!)
