I wanted to share this here because I know you guys would be as thrilled as I am.
Was perusing the local events page yesterday and discovered that starting tomorrow this exhibition will be at the local art museum
"Cut! Costume and the Cinema"

Im adding the link in case anyone wants the full description
http://www.bocamuseum.org/index.php?submenu=exib_upcoming&src=gendocs&ref=Upcoming%20Exhibitions&category=Exhibitions

basically it will be "forty-three extraordinary costumes" including Heath Ledger's Casanova, Johnny Depp's cap't jack', (Angelica Huston, Ever After) to 17th-century Virginia (Colin Farrell, The New World) to the 18th-century England of the aristocracy (Keira Knightley and Ralph Fiennes, The Duchess) to opulent 19th-century Paris, (Emmy Rossum, The Phantom of the Opera) to the story of Peter Pan (Kate Winslet, Finding Neverland), and the newly released adventures of Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law, Sherlock Holmes) into the 20th century – to colonial Shanghai (Natasha Richardson, The White Countess) and Virginia Woolf's England (Vanessa Redgrave, Mrs. Dalloway) to the forests of Belarus in World War II (Daniel Craig, Defiance).

I am alllll so excited for it.
It opens this weekend so I think I might go next weekend just to avoid the snotty retiree boca crowd that will inevitably be there opening weekend.

Here are some of the official pictures.
Apparently from what I have been reading the costumes will not even be cordoned off so you can get as close as you want.

Wow!!  Of course, I'd try to smuggle the Angelica Huston out in my purse, but I've gotta say--not my period, not my color, but that pink Victorian ballgown is to die for.  :o WOW!!!!

Anna Iram

I like the pretty lavender gown. Reminds me of a fairytale book I had as a girl of the Twelve Dancing Princesses.  :)

It's a bit of a drive for me, but thanks for the post. It's a possiblity I may take a drive out before it closes.

Auryn

Oh I would totally try to knick the Anjelica Houston dress.

The pink dress is from the masquerade ball scene in phantom of the opera and the purple/lilac  is one of the million dresses worn by keira knightly in The Duchess.

Anna, if you decide to come out for it, let me know, I will totally go with you and we can grab a lunch.

Of course I will take a gazillion pictures when I go and post them back here.

That'd be fun. I'll look at my finances and the dates and see what I can swing.  :)

Drat. I was hoping it was a touring exhibition, but it looks like it's Florida only.  :-\

So Jealous!  I loved the Duchess and would love the purple gown...although the pink ball gown is amazing as well  ;D
Everything goes better with giggles

Actually that reminds me of an exhibt that was in Oklanhoma back in the Summer.  I wonder if it is the same one.  The local costumers guild went and I kicked myself I couldn't go due to a show opening at the time.

All the costumes are just plain yummy.  ;D  I know the PP would drool over the Casanova one,  and the phantom of the opera is always a show to drool over.
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

Rowan MacD

Still drooling over the Anjelica Huston dress.   I have never particularly admired that style until now  ;D
What doesn't kill me-had better run.

I'm drooling over the Anjelica Huston one too. Though I wish it was closer to me so I could go see it.

Please take pics and share if you can.
May the stars always shine upon you and yours.

Lady Rebecca

Wow! I wish I wasn't three hours away... I don't know if I can get a chance to go that far.

Anna Iram

Well, give a shout, Rebecca, if you do get a day free and want a road trip. Mayhaps we can make lunch a threesome.

A good friend of mine lives in Sherman Oaks,California and goes to the local Arclight Theatre to see films. Often, she says, are the costumes from major films on display. It makes her think of me.

What I would give for a lengthy visit to see and touch the magnificent works of wearable art one sees in films. This is what I aspire be with each piece I do.
