This isn't for a costume, it's for decorating my apartment when I move out.  But it's still sewing, and it's still ren cause that's how I'm decorating :)

What I'm looking for is super cheap damask/jacquard/brocade or somehow patterned drapery/upholstery fabric.  I'm going for this sort of look, with the fabric hung on the walls:

I might also get some stuff for making cushions, draping over furniture, and making the bed hangings.

Okay so I will give you some advice, I have been collecting "Fleur de Lis" fabrics and they are very expensive. But I can say? You can get some plain fabrics like in Bold Blue and Red, and then Stamp them with awesome stamps that are out there in metallic fabric paints.  I am doing this for our loft/entertainment room.  An awesome supplier is eBay, just do a search on Stencils and you will find a lot of nice designs!!

Now here are some fabrics in the extra wide width and will take a stamp well.

Now if you would like it to keep out the heat in the summer and keep the heat in Winter? Why not try this it is Flannel and comes in many colors and if you pre-wash it, and heat set after you stamp, it will be washable.

I have priced out the notion of doing a tented room with super cheap fabric.
It STILL is expensive.

A better choice would be do a faux wall treatment like the Ralph Lauren leather look.  The effect is done with a fairly dark semigloss paint and then a glaze over that which is "pounced off."  I did this to my master bath and it really does look like leather.  Then just add Fleur de Lis stenciling or stamps in gold over the top.

Thanks Cilean!  I'll have a look at those sites.

I'm only doing my 10x12 max bedroom like this.  I'm doing this because I doubt I'll be allowed to modify the apartment, and even if I am, I'm only in it for 10 months.

Also, I forgot to say, the fabric doesn't have to be natural fibres.  I'm really looking for the cheapest fabric I can get, so synthetics are fine.

You know you can liquid starch fabric to walls without making a mark and then when you want to take it down you can either pull or add hot water and it will come off without hurting your walls!!!!

So Joann's is having a sale on Country Classic cotton fabric and it is $1.99 a yard!!! If you head to Wally World? You could find something to use that pretty will still take the fabric paints for a $1.00 a yard,

Still the flannel I gave you is 108" per yard so really you need less yardage for the entire thing. I have found 118 and 126 inch wide fabrics as well.  If you have 8 foot walls?

You would be able to use just 3 yards for 2 walls and 4 yards for the other walls which gives you 14 yards so a base of $112.00 for the fabric, I have a fleur de lis that is 6X4 inches and it was a whole $4.00 and then the metallic paint is $1.45.  I think your idea is pretty smashing and I hope you will post pictures when it is done!

As I said I have to drape 2 walls for sound proofing, we have a loft/den that is very LOUD, you can't watch TV at a normal level because the entire house hears it!  So I am looking to do a little sound proofing by making drapes.

Anyway....

Good luck!!!

I just got an idea from the sewing room essentials thread.  Is drapery lining suitable for this sort of thing?  And if it is, can I dye it?  It's probably going to be a synthetic/natural fibre blend.

JoAnn's is having a sale this weekend on their blue jacquard (they always carry it and it's gorgeous navy), that makes it 6 something a yard. It's on sale a lot. I would buy a gold stamp pad and a gold fleur stamp, available all over and have a field day. You can wash the jacquard (I make my garb out of it) and gold, or silver ink can be permanant. It would be lovely. I've done something like this for a scrap project and it works well.

Hobby Lobby often has their drapery/upholstery fabric on drastic sale - -they have a lot of interesting patterns.

PrincessSara

I'm in Canada, so I don't have JoAnn's, Wally World, or Hobby Lobby, and Joann.com doesn't ship to Canada.  Up here we've got Fabricland and Len's Mill Store.

Also, I'm not looking to replicate the fabric in the image I had, that was just an example for what the draping of it looked like.  It doesn't have to be blue and I don't have to have fleur de lys.  Other colours and patterns are definitely acceptable.  :)

Thanks everyone for the help so far!
