Perth Street!  Go to Golden D'Or, Best Fabrics, or the wholesalers there along Harry Hines and Perth.  Take your pattern with you.  If you go to Golden D'Or, ask for Ryan.  Think about fabric weights, breathability.

Get more than what the pattern calls for - how much more depends on shrinkage.  WASH EVERYTHING, even stuff that usually isn't washed, to preshrink.  This way your garment will be washable.

The trim room at GD'Or can be overwhelming but fun.  As is the button shelving...
