ha you can keep AMC. i love the cinemark in merriam just fine. but either way, yeah. sounds to me like you just hate kansas for lowering taxes. just because nearby business jump an the most opportunistic bandwagon, doesnt really seem right to criticize one state so highly over its finances like that. but i dunno.

its called a corporation named AMC. they have over 1,000 employees in a very large building in downtown KC.

and you should REALLY read up on it. they give away the farm by offering tax breaks to companies from KCMO hoping the citzens move with the company. if they do, it ends up being a net gain. if they dont, it doesnt help. if you follow the news, I do, you will notice they just proposed raising property taxes in OPKS by 18.7% because of all the taxes they give away to land corporations. i am hating kansASS because i wish they would try and do what other cities and states do, look OUTSIDE their own metro for new companies and new opportunities. i grew up in KCMO wayyyyy before you were even thought of, and I can promise you all KS leaching and enticing companies across the line does is hurt the metro as a whole and further destroy the inner city even further. if you would go to the center of KCMO, its urban core, you would see where it hurts the most. the southern part of the city has long been dead, and when the companies leave and take their employees, ummm, who is left to finance the city and its needs? no one! then it gets left to ROT!!!

but be sure and be happy kansASS is benefitting from this! i dont hate them for lowering taxes, i hate them for ruining the region as a whole, and even more so their own state. been to downtown KCK lately? they pay NO attention to it AT ALL. all the attention they give to WYCO, while kck, the part in kansASS, is left to rot!

oh yeah, and have i mentioned the county has been trying to run off the KCRF off the wyco grounds for years now so they can let some other developer come in and plow it down and make it into more shopping? great job KS!

I'm already picturing myself in the car on the way to Bonner Springs.  When my sis still lived here, we would rock out to 80's songs all the way - haha! ;D  Those 2+ hours would FLY by!
26 days!!!!!

Delireus

I have a special playlist titled 'Renfest'. In high school I started listening to this band called Nightwish, it's like...opera metal music. I loved it and felt it really fit with faires. My friends and I would listen to it on the way to TRF, which was about an hour away. Now, if we're stating at my boyfriends house the night before, KCRF is like 10 minutes away so I barely get 1 song in before we're there!

i LOVE nightwish. if you like them, i can show you a whole list of things you'd probably love.

Delireus

That's exciting! I saw them when they came to Houston and that's on my "top 5 best days ever" and once again in Oklahoma City. What do you recommend?

I love that you have an RF playlist!  Boo to the short drive days!  Ha!  Actually, I'm jealous - 10 minutes!  I'd actually make it on time :)
P.S. 25 more days!!

Delireus

Well I actually live in Manhattan, but my boyfriend is from KC so we drive up there on friday night, then go to KCRF from there Saturday  :D So, it's really more like 2 hours and 10 minutes. We usually get there around 11 or so though, I still can't convince my friends to stay the entire day :/

back when i was a youngster, I would drive to KCRF from my home in Washington, DC, 4 hours further east than Pittsburgh mind you! I would drive in two weekends a year, I would leave work around 6 or 7p on Sat, get to Canterbury around 9am after drving it straight, snooze in the parking lots til around 11am, then go enjoy the faire until the VERY LAST cannon fired!

Tamtaro

Driving is so much harder these days!  When I was a youngster, I would drive my horse and buggy into the wee hours with no problem.  Now there are not enough starbucks doubleshots at the QT to keep me awake.  I like sleeeeeping!!!  I also like staying the whole day or at least as long as my chubby little legs will carry me! :P

kcdcchef

yeah, getting older you need more sleep, that is true!

I don't just need sleep, I love it!!  I'm going to take a nap in a sky chair this year.  They may suspect when I come up to the booth with a blanket. ;D
Hey everyone - 21 days!!  Soon we'll be posting thoughts and pictures from KCRF!!  Huzzah!
Hey kcdcchef - are you going to hit PARF?  (so you can get a fix before Columbus Day? - the countdown is almost cruel!)

kcdcchef

if I hit a faire before KCRF it would be the Ohio one or the Pittsburgh one. PARF is always closing weekend, Halloween weekend. So fun! Something to be said for being there on closing weekend and seeing the best of everyone's acts.

The weather must be fabulous by then!  I'm imagining all the Eastern colorful trees - so pretty!  And wearing a cloak!  I made one, but I never get to wear it!  I run warm to begin with.  Although that one weekend that was so bitterly cold (in 2009?), it was like wearing the Emperor's New Cloak!  A little breezy ;D

Butch

Just THREE more days until the mini-Faire!  Is anyone else going to that?
