There's colors on the street, red, white and blue
People shufflin' their feet, people sleepin' in their shoes
There's a warnin' sign on the road ahead
There's a lot of people sayin' we'd be better off dead
Don't feel like Satan, but I am to them
So I try to forget it, any way I can.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

I see a woman in the night with a baby in her hand
Under an old street light, near a garbage can
Now she puts the kid away and she's gone to get a hit
She hates her life and what she's done to it
There's one more kid that'll never go to school
Never get to fall in love, never get to be cool.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

We got a thousand points of light for the homeless man
We got a kinder, gentler machine gun hand
We got department stores and toilet paper
Got styrofoam boxes for the ozone layer
Got a man of the people says "Keep hope alive"
Got fuel to burn, got roads to drive.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

Unforgettable, thats what you are
Unforgettable though near or far
Like a song of love that clings to me
How the thought of you does things to me
Never before has someone been more

Unforgettable in every way
And forever more, thats how you'll stay
Thats why, darling, its incredible
That someone so unforgettable
Thinks that I am unforgettable too

Heard this in the fabric store yesterday while shopping for new garb goodies (of course), and it's been with me ever since. How appropriate that I should post it here... LOL

When I get lyrics stuck in my head, it's always just a snippet that repeats on a loop, never the whole song. Does that mean my brain is skipping???

Most days are like all of the others,
Go to work, come back home, watch TV,
But, brother, if I had me druthers,
I'd chuck it and head out to sea,

For I dream of the skull and the crossbones,
I dream of the great day to come,
When I dump the mundane for the Old Spanish Main
And trade me computer for rum! ARRR!

T' me,
Yo, Ho, Yo, Ho,
It's "Talk Like A Pirate" Day!
When laptops are benches God gave us fer wenches,
And a sail ain't a low price ta pay!
When timbers are shivered and lilies are livered
And every last buckle is swashed,
We'll abandon our cars for a shipful of ARRRs
And pound back the grog till we're sloshed! Yo ho....

Don't pick up yer phone and say "Hello,
Our ten-o-clock meeting's delayed",
Ye scrunch up yer face and ye bellow,
"AVAST! Ye've been bleedin' BELAYED!"

Ye can't keep this fun to yerself, I bet,
So sing "Aye!" "ARRR!" "Ayy!" every man!
We ain't got much grasp of the alphabet,
But a damn good retirement plan!

T' me,
Yo, Ho, Yo, Ho,
It's "Talk Like A Pirate" Day!
Whatever's in fashion is in for a thrashin'
And bein' polite is passe!
When it's ev'ry man's duty to grab his proud beauty
And let out a hearty YO HO!
And if this offends you, hold y'r breath as we sends you
Ta Davy Jones' Locker ya go! Yo ho....

We'll tell every banker "Heave to and weigh anchor!"
Buy latte with pieces of eight
We'll fight to be chosen as cap'n or bosun
The loser, o' course, is worst mate!

When we hoist Jolly Roger, the landlubbers dodge 'er,
We fill 'em with loathing and fear,
We'll plunder and pillage each city and village,
Or at least clean out Wal-Mart of beer!

There ain't no computin' or morning commutin',
No "Parking Lot Full" signs for me,
No lawns ta be mowin' or bills to be owin',
I'm knowin' the pull of the sea.

The fresh salty brace of the wind on my face
Through hurricane, sunshine, or squalls,
I'm keepin' my eyes on the distant horizon,
Verizon can hold all my calls!

To wear a red coat full o' buckles,
To earn a few duelling scars,
Well, at least we can get a few chuckles
By filling the office with ARRRs!

And maybe we'll never get closer,
Than watchin' 'em on the big screen,
So here's to old Errol and Depp as Jack Sparrow,
And every damn one in between!

T' me,
Yo, Ho, Yo, Ho,
It's "Talk Like A Pirate" Day!
That time in September when sea dogs remember
That grown-ups still know how ta play!
When wenches are curvy and dogs are all scurvy
And a soft-wear patch covers your eye,
Ta hell with our jobs, for one day we're all swabs
And buccaneers all till we die!

So hoist up the mainsails and shut down your brain cells,
They only would get in the way,
Avast there, me hearty, we're havin' a party,
It's "Talk... Like... A Pirate" Day!
When everything seems to be coming your way...
...you're in the wrong lane!

There was a novel out a couple of years ago about a "Song Whisperer..." She would determine what a song was trying to tell you that would get stuck in your head, similar to dream interpretation.  Interesting idea.

I remember a bit of research that I did that women are slightly more likely to have this occurrence and, as would make sense, musicians much more so, whether lyrics or melodies.

I have to turn the radio off in the car when I have something important to do. The last song gets stuck in my mind and it plays in the background.

Try researching prochlorperazine and have Mick Jagger whispering in your ear!
Show me your tan lines..and I'll show you mine!

I just want to be Layla.....

Not sure I'd want Mick whispering in my ear no matter what I was trying to do... LOL

And so I'm sleeping with the Muse
And I watch her breathing slow
In the morning she'll be gone
Along with everything I know...

Captain Jack Wolfe

He was a hard-headed man, he was brutally handsome,
and she was terminally pretty.
She held him up, and he held her for ransom
in the heart of the cold, cold city
He had a nasty reputation as a cruel dude
They said he was ruthless, they said he was crude
They had one thing in common, they were good in bed
She'd say, 'Faster, faster. The lights are turnin' red."
Life in the fast lane
Surely make you lose your mind, mm

Are you with me so far?

Eager for action and hot for the game
The coming attraction, the drop of a name
They knew all the right people, they took all the right pills
They threw outrageous parties, they paid heavenly bills
There were lines on the mirror, lines on her face
She pretended not to notice, she was caught up in the race

Out every evening, until it was light
He was too tired to make it, she was too tired
to fight about it

Life in the fast lane
Surely make you lose your mind
Life in the fast lane, everything all the time
Life in the fast lane, uh huh

Blowin' and burnin', blinded by thirst
They didn't see the stop sign,
took a turn for the worse

She said, "Listen, baby. You can hear the engine ring.
We've been up and down this highway; haven't seen a goddamn thing."
He said, "Call the doctor. I think I'm gonna crash."
"The doctor say he's comin', but you gotta pay him cash."
They went rushin' down that freeway,
messed around and got lost
They didn't care they were just dyin' to get off
And it was life in the fast lane
Life in the fast lane

Lady Amy of York

Heard this song the other day on  the Tv, by the Zombies.  My older sisters use to play this song  all the time !

It's the time of the season
When the love runs high
In this time, give it to me easy
And let me try
With pleasured hands

To take you and the sun to
Promised lands
To show you every one
It's the time of the season for loving

What's your name?
(What's your name?)
Who's your daddy?
(Who's your daddy? He rich?)
Is he rich like me?

Has he taken
(Has he taken)
Any time
(Any time to show)
To show you what you need to live?
Tell it to me slowly
Tell you what?
I really want to know
It's the time of the season for loving

What's your name?
(What's your name?)
Who's your daddy?
(Who's your daddy? He rich?)
Is he rich like me?

Has he taken
(Has he taken)
Any time
(Any time to show)
To show you what you need to live?
Tell it to me slowly
Tell you what?
I really want to know
It's the time of the season for loving

The Other Van Gogh

My first wife was the daughter of a sail maker
In love with every shadow on the sea
She left me for a fisherman who drowned in a storm
On our Paper Wedding Anniversary

My second wife grew up upon a dust bowl farm
With hair and eyes the color of the salted earth
We had half as many blessings as eleven years
Before the seventh took her life in childbirth

And who am I to judge the laws of time and space
Or say I know what is or isn't planned
Well is it so hard to believe
I only want to be an ordinary man
An ordinary man

So I became a pastor to a mining town
Thinking Jesus might rise up out of the coal
But on the day that I turned thirty-nine I looked around
And it was clear I hadn't saved a single soul

So I went underground as far as I could dig
And started trying to grow a diamond in my lungs
But on my forty-fifth birthday I watched a picket line break
And realized that youth is wasted on the young

And who am I to talk about the works of God
When my spirit is as idle as my hands
Well is it so hard to believe
I only want to be an ordinary man
An ordinary man

When I became a painter I thought time stood still
Like my brush could reproduce infinity
But when each primary color found a force of will
There was nothing in the spectrum left for me

So my easel fed the fire on a winters night
And the poets, drunks and madmen disappeared
Then I saw her haloed by a Paris cafe light
On the first night of my fifty-second year

And who am I to criticize a gift of grace
Or question all that's in a grain of sand
Well is it so hard to believe
I only want to be an ordinary man
An ordinary man

My wife's the second daughter of a sail maker
She says the only thing she wants in life is me
And I thought about giving her an ear but I settled on a dozen roses
For our Paper Wedding Anniversary

And who am I to ask if there is more to life
Than the ones I love and almost understand
Well is it so hard to believe
I only want to be an ordinary man
I could be more but don't you see
I only want to be
An ordinary man
An ordinary man
An ordinary man
An ordinary man
