Does anyone have a good link for basic costume guidelines? I have to outfit a group of students and would like to find some simple information for them.

Thanks!

Mine isn't simple, it's aiming for historical accuracy, and it's specific for Italian 16th century style. But it's easy enough to understand, and will also give a goo idea of how the various layers were worn, and why:

There were some suggestions posted for first time fair goers posted awhile back.
But I can't find the thread.
For girls, a loose poet shirt, 1 or 2 solid color long cotton skirts, a fitted vest that can sort of pass for a bodice.

For guys, loose solid color pants, think cotton pajama bottoms, loose poet shirt and a man's loose vest. Suede or corduroy vest would be best.
wide brim straw hats work for both sexes of the peasant class.

Umm.. I am going to pretty much repeat Dona here but with some extras
For girls: Long skirts thrift shops have alot of great options, Peasnt blouses I found a super cute one a Khols a few months back, comfy shoes! Mary Janes are Historically Accurate ( H/A for easier typing) and easy to find I think places like Hot Topic or Earthbound Trading may have them for a song or www.renstore.com has them too.

Guys: Pajama pants, scrub pants or solid colored dress pants, vests ( Thrift stores!) shirts with sleeves the link that I have above has some good mens costumes too. Boots or moccisens work for both boys and girls.

Again trift stores are your friend! Especially this time of year they are pulling out the Halloween stuff and also costume shops if you are in a larger area!

If you can watch movies like The Hunchback of Noter Dame ( the disney version) and Ever After for some ideas for the kids and to get them excited for the Faire

Dawn's costume pages are a great reference for garb newbies--lots of information on how to make basic elements (including thrift store finds and commercial patterns) work for Fair.
