Ash from the fires at my office which is roughly 30 miles southeast of here.

Bonny, that sounds pretty cool.
Might be worth the drive down from DFW as a nice diversion before faire.

I was really pleasantly surprised by this discovery even though it was by extreme circumstance.  As the saying goes, Sometimes from the bad you find the good.

FYI-- The Honey Tree Daycare/Preschool center is collecting BABY & TODDLER ITEMS which will be dispersed to families who have lost their homes in the Grimes County fires. If anyone in the Willowbrook area wants to contribute their hand-me-downs or pack of diapers or ANYTHING, the center is on the 249 feeder just north of Perry, southbound side. They are open 6am to 6:45pm, and there is a buzzer to get someone to open the door. They have a crib right inside the door that we're putting items in, but there isn't very much so far.

School closed again tomorrow.  Since I am taking the day off as well I believe I will show our son first hand what community and volunteering are all about.  I'm sure there is something a 9yo can do to help.

Just letting everyone know, HEB donations are for "Wildfire relief" this is  through The "RED CROSS" and is for disaster relief through out Texas.
Many people are donating. Others see RED CROSS and ask for another option.
Find your local and ask what they are in need of.
Some need clean towels, water, eye drops, cough drops, sports drinks, clean socks, baby powder, men's and women's underwear
Take my hand and walk with me through life, or send me in the general direction, then point and laugh!

This is a picture taken tonight from the Walmart in Tomball.  For those not in this area we had NO cloud cover today so everything you see in the sky in the picture is smoke from the Grimes County fire.

I didn't know about this place:

Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary

Yes there is an actual sanctuary for wolves near us.  Wow, learn something new everyday!  There apparently was concern about these animals and where to take them if necessary.

Will have to consider attending this event, it's right before faire starts:

Saturday, October 1
10:00am 6th Annual Open Day & Festival of the WolvesWhenSat, October 1, 10am – 2pm

WhereSaint Francis Wolf Sanctuary, Montgomery Texas

DescriptionRAIN or SHINE
Meet the Wolves & Wolf Dogs, Door Prizes, Wolf Gift Shop, Face Painting & Games for Kids.
Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
NO PETS ALLOWED

When my son was a Boy Scout we used to go out there once or twice a year.  The woman that runs it is amazing!  The animals are really cool.  They used to occasionally do campouts out there where you could camp in the field next to the wolf habitats and listen to them howl at the moon during the night.

Read that containment dropped from 85% to 50% overnight.  Winds were blowing to the North and for the first time I could smell the smoke at my house north of 105.

The smoke has finally reached us here in central Arkansas. This morning, the air is heavy with the smell.

You may be getting smoke from the northeast Texas fires near Nacogdoches.

 ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

From a post on FB

Anyone in the Rose Road area??? My friend called in an Illegal burn there near her house - is it out or what???
Can we post the idiots name if we know it???

??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

Goodness gracious I HOPE we really don't have complete morons out there doing something like this!   ::)

Wish the containment % would go up and stay up instead of waffling like it has.  I know the fire crews have seen one challenge after another and I feel for them and the people who live here.  Last night the evacuation zone inched closer to where we live but we are okay so far.  With no haze or ash blowing this direction today you wouldn't know there is a fire down the road.

We are on stand-by to help evacuate some horses near Kickapoo Road if needed.  The man has plenty of trailers just not enough vehicles to tow them.  I saw on the news this morning footage of rescued house pets with bandages on their paws and wiskers singed from the heat/fires, poor little guys. :(

090911 10:30AM FIRE UPDATE

Firefighters are closely monitoring a hot spot in the Riley/Wade/Plantation Lake area. The concern is that a wind will cause a large flare-up in the area, which is about a 1/4 mile from Renfaire. There have been no significant flare-ups on the east side of FM 1774 in Grimes County this morning...
